Immediately Useful Ideas
Photoshop 6 Web Magic is one of the best books on the market for presenting realistic and useful how-to's. By following the step-by-step instructions, anyone can recreate the exact project displayed in the book. A CD is included which provides everything a person needs to use the techniques detailed in the book. But the steps are written in such clear and simple to understand words that you could recreate the projects without the CD.

Embossing, background, re-touching, custom shapes navigation bars and animated attention getters are a few of the things you can learn from spending an evening with Photohop 6 Web Magic. These subjects are the things used in the real world. They can be put to use immediately on your web to give it a professional look. Even if you have never used Photoshop, this book has such good detail that you can walk right through the project without a problem.

Truly "Magic"!
A great addition to my Photoshop library. I loved working through Foster's "Photoshop Web Magic 2" tutorials, but this book really showed me how to utilize the new features in version 6. Great animation effects too!

What I was looking for
I am teaching a high school course in web programming. The course will cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web graphics. The ideal book on Photoshop for this class would: 1. be focused on Web graphics (Photoshop is not just a web tool, and other books spend a lot of time on other aspects). 2. be clear, with bite-sized examples and step by step instructions 3. include as topics creating background graphics, animation, and image map rollovers 4. be inexpensive Well, three out of four is not bad. Photoshop 6 Web Magic is too expensive to require students to buy it. Otherwise, it is what I was looking for. The price of the book probably is due to the high cost of color reproduction. If your idea of a book is large quantities of verbiage, then you will feel very cheated here. But for my needs, less is more. I can use the examples in this book to give students a sense of accomplishment. This should be better for them than a comprehensive treatise that is less accessible. Should you buy this book? My guess is that you will like it more to the extent that: --you prefer learning from examples to learning from theory --you prefer a book that is organized around particular problems or projects to one that is organized around the features of the software --you really want to focus on the Web aspects of Photoshop 6.0 I fit that profile, and I am pleased with the book.

Shortest way to get to understand the Reichmann Empire
This is the best book you want to get if you easily get discouraged by 500+ pages books. It is almost identical to Biacco's book (from page 256 on) but with much less details about Real Estate deals, that somebody not really interessted in Real Estate will appreciate.

Enough basic information for both PC & Mac users.
Some of the information does not come with enough technical details but with lengthy comment E.g.: On page 49, the author spent a lot of time comparing the Eraser feature of Corel 7 to Corel 6!!! Who needs that? We are reading a book about Corel 8 not Corel 7 or 6.

The book is more than 900 pages thick. Compared to other publications with the same subject, the fonts here are much bigger to artificially increase the thicknes of the book.

If you need to use Corel 8 on both PC & Mac, this is the book to buy. Otherwise, "Corel 8 secrets" and "Corel 8 bible" contain more details.

Near Perfect coverage of a complex program
Well, after working with every version of Corel for more than 9 years, I still find myself needing a good book to help me through the sections that I don't often use or are just plain hard.... This book is a great reference to a complex program. CorelDraw 8 is a near do everything program and it takes a "Large" book to cover it all... this one sure does that. Thanks for all the help. Well written and to the point.

From Corel3 to COREL8!
Imagine my surprise when I went from Corel 3 to Corel 8! My monitor screen suddenly took on the appearance of a cockpit of a 747! Lucky for me,(and Amazon.com) Foster Coburn and Peter McCormick got together and published Corel Draw 8-THE OFFICAL GUIDE. It has easy to understand directions and graphics that helps makes sense out of the bevy of upgrades I wasn't used too.I can extrude, rotate, weld, convert my curves and interact all without breakin' a sweat. If you've gotten behind on your upgrades, as I did, get the OFFICIAL GUIDE to Corel 8. It's great. Except NO SUBSTITUTIONS!!

Not even the manual
I was very disappointed with this book. I bought it after reading a few reviews and recommendations from NAPP. It seems to me it isn't any much more than the manual revisited with a few extra details. I was hoping for some innovation and some interesting things that I might have stirred into my pot of knowledge, but I found I was reading a lot on basic tool function. It's a manual at best. It is too text bookie, and too long and drawn out over simple things. I got to about the 18th chapter, and put it down. I don't think there is anything that I'd use. I feel sorry that the message is so down as the things that I've read are accurate in the book. I just don't feel the investment came out to be worth it very well.

A reader from Baltimore, MD
Well written guide to the basics such as concentrations, dilutions, logs etc. with lots of useful worked examples. The only problem is the book is a bit too basic for all mathematic needs during a biological degree.
