I know one of the pilots of this squadron
On a recent trip to Hawaii, I noticed a book on my cousin's coffee table. Upon asking about it, I learned that her husband, Col. Fred Hughes, USMC (Ret.) was one of the men in this famous squadron. I started reading and read it all in one sitting. I found it to be a very accurate and hard-hitting account of WW II in the Pacific Theatre. I was educated, amazed and amused by this description of the bonding of men from all over the USA who flew together with great pride in being Marines and caring for each other like brothers. I would suggest this book as good reading for those interested in an accurate and historical version of that time in US history.

A Great Book to Understand Bacteria
I used this book in a course by the same name and it was a helpful source to read. It gives good explanations that sometimes are a little too short. I still use this book and it is a great place to jump off from when trying to understand a topic. One problem is that somtimes it gets too much into the biochemical steps and falls away from the concepts of the pathway. But all in all, it is a helpful book if this is your field or if you want to start and understand bacteria from a entire bacteria level and not just one gene at a time. The parts on genetics and genetic regulation of systems (focusing on transcriptional regulation) are also great. It is due for an update though.

Very handy!
I'm a device driver programmer, and I've owned the 3rd edition (1990) of this for years. I seriously use it at least once per week. Sometimes, it's just for the ASCII table (which one can find lots of places), but I also use many other things, such as the ISA pinout, 16550 register map, I/O map, etc. It's a very simple book, but it's small and very handy.

An excellent overview of the tragedy
This book is a collection of varied essays written about the Titanic over the past ninty years. It contains eyewitness accounts as well as essays that explore the cultural impact of the disaster. This book was entertaining as well as informative. However, I would recommend that readers who are not familiar with the story read something like Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember" first to get their bearings.

How It Works Wacky Weather
Wonderful way to teach children about the weather. My son absolutely loves learning from this book. If you have a curious little soul at home get this book.

Not what you might think - union business, not tractors.
Although thorough in tracking the history of the Scottish plant closure, the authors start from a very fixed opinion about international (read American) big business. They see the Caterpillar company management as manipulative, sly and lacking "governor weights".
Their explanation about transfer pricing and the gold standard is quite convincing but they imbue the union bosses with human values which perhaps they deny to the bosses.
A good case study of tensions caused by plant closures, but the end of the story left me feeling that I was no nearer answering "why did it happen that way?"
The book could almost have applied to any big corporation
