Puts life in perspective
As a member of Generation-X (that means in 1998 I'm 35...)I find this book puts many things about life today in perspective. An excellent and easy read, I would recommend this to anyone who is fascinated by social and demographical characteristics of our society. A word of warning though, for all you Gen-Xers out there... You may develop a new found hatred of people in their late 40s and early 50s... It's a fun book. Read it.

I liked it so much, I made my wife read it.
I read this book in the summer of 1996, and found it to be an excellent tool. It takes a very organized approach to presenting the history of demographics and applying demographics to trends that we have observed over the past. It is highly relevant to life in rural Ontario which is where i was living at the time. Issues like the future importance of hospital closings, school development, and social programs should all be viewed in the context of demographics.

After reading this I went on to read Faith Popcorn's books, and found them to be rather flat predictions that demographics could easily fortell. Boom Bust & Echo is a useful toolkit for business people with lots of examples to draw from. My wife and I had our own company at the time, and I had to make her read the book so we could re-assess our strategy in light of this under-used tool, and it allowed us to reposition our company without straying from our original mission.

Really Unwrap the Mummy!
This book is very cool. Four feet long, unwrap layer by layer and find information each time. You can even hang up the mummy! I love it and so does my lil bro!

-U.T.M-
I've had this book since i was given it by my parents when i was 7, and even though it has an age title of 6-8 i still enjoy it and i'm now 14! But the whole book is cleverly written for children to understand so they learn while having fun. I would personally recommend this book to anyone who is hesitant to purchase it, for their children or even for themselves.

Wilt Chamberlain... The "Loser"
I feel that this book truly portrays the life of an African-American superstar in the 60's and 70's. He is a bit egotistical at times, but is always truthful (except for the part about all the women). All through his career, he is called a loser because of what his team is accomplishing and not him. In his first several years, his teams consistently played the Celtics in the playoffs, and instead of the Warriors vs. the Celtics, it became Bill Russel vs. Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt would consistently beat out Russel in every category, yet his team would still lose. When this happened, Wilt was called the loser. He was told that Russel schooled him time and time again, when really, it was the other way around.
This book accurately portrays what it would be like to face the "Loser" label your whole life. It wasn't fair at all, but Wilt successfully had a good season after another. I definately reccomend this book to anyone who likes success stories or if you like sports biographies. In fact, I recommend it to anybody

Wilt Can Write
Over twenty-five years ago, Wilt Chamberlain took the belief that professional athletes are dumb and flushed it like a loose stool. In this book, he shares truths about his groundbreaking NBA salaries, his views on dating, and other famous basketball personalities. His sense of humor entertains his readers, while his intelligence, clearly evidenced by his vocabulary, constantly enlightens. For everyone old enough to vote, this book will be a wonderful experience.

Interesting read but methodologically unconvincing
The problem with this approach is the simple assumption that a commodity enjoys demand depending on what age group it appeals to, and what is the percentage of this group within a country's population overall.

That is exactly the main argument of the author: show me the population trends, birth rates, percentage of age groups, and I will tell you what's going to be in demand.

This assumption needs to be defended more thoroughly, however. Education is a good example. Although birth rates declined in the US for the last 20 years, more people get university education today compared to the past. Obviously, the economy of the 21st century demands that.

Grouth or decline rates of the population cannot be the only major independent variable predicting demand.

Excellent for anyone interested in Generations
While I am not a Canadian, I am quite sure that Foot's extensive research and theories hold quite well. I train and consult with organizations on the issue of diversity and generations on a regular basis, and this book was excellent reading for those who want to see that the "generations" diversity dimension is not limited to the United States.

Books on generations run the risk of making sweeping generalizations, but one must recognize that generations do indeed have distinct archetypes. Foot does what other authors do not often do, and focuses on the effects the generations will have on Canadian society rather than dwelling on the traits of each generation. Many of his theories can not be proven for years to come, but it does help marketers, managers, and anyone in society or business understand one aspect of why people disagree.

Using categories such as education, transit, companies, and other societal issues, Foot examines how each generation will change the societal outlook. This is extremely helpful for those who wish to make affect society in a positive way.

The United States' has a developed archetype for generations dating back to the 1500s (thanks Howe and Strauss), but it appears Canada is not that far along in developing traits and generational personalities. In many ways this is good...it provides less information for those to stereotype with. However, my guess is that books such as this will peak the interest of the Canadian population and future generations will be as neatly defined as Generation X and the Baby Boomers are in the United States. (Good or bad, you make the call.)

So, this is definitely a great book for foundational knowledge for Canadian generations. Foot is clearly a student of pop culture, and this book is likely the first of many that will address this topic.

Still ahead of it's time and will be until people catch up.
Having a bookshelf full of futuristic reading including Boomernomics, Next, Pig and the Python and the complete series by H S Dent and many books from Harvard press as well as every new economy magazine printed I found myself continuing to reach for Boom Bust and Echo as it has more backbone, the chapters contain more substance and historical data to back it up. I commend this book to be carried at all times with a copy to be kept by the bed.

An Incredible account
This book is the incredible tale of a man and a ministry faithfully in pursuit of carrying out the work of the Lord despite obsticles and sometimes insurmountable impossibilities. The chapters are at times difficult to follow but well worth the short amount of time it will take to read from cover to cover.

I may be a wee bit biased...
David Stoess is my uncle and reading his book was a complete joy for me. He was married to my aunt Nancy and this book brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood. I always knew David had a great sense of humor and it shows in the pages of this book. 'Tis an awesome adventure and one I think most people will enjoy!
