Average Effort by Author
This is more the wrong book. Ok the story was not that bad, it moves fast and there is a lot of action, but it is a little thin. The author did not spend enough quality time working on the characters, why they did what the did etc. If you read a number of books in the genre you were guessing the end of the book about a quarter of the way in. The author really tries to get a Clancy type converging subplot structure but it seems forced, it almost aggravated me with the hard cuts from one to the next. There is not a lot of subtly in this book. It does provide a story that is at least average.

This story is the pits
When Romana installs a TARDIS component that the Doctor has been ignoring, a distress signal is picked up and the TARDIS materialises on the planet Chloris, a planet on which metal is in short supply. As they try to find the being who set up the distress signal, they fall foul of Chloris' ruler, the Lady Adrasta, who will do anything to retain her ruthless grip on the planet...
Season seventeen of Doctor Who seems to be one in which the show lost its way. As a rule, the stories were less well thought out than they should have been, and contained somewhat ludicrous elements. 'The Creature from the Pit' is one of the worst offenders - science that it would be generous to describe as half-baked, unlikely cultures, and strange creatures all conspire to drown any good points which the story has.
If you aren't a Doctor Who completist, look elsewhere.

Misleading title, should be "Rules of Thumb for Chemists"
Very misleading title for a book which deals almost
exclusively with chemistry.
Little mention of physics or engineering.
Shame on the author and the publisher of this book!

The story of Ron Fishers journey along the Australian coast is a clean and sober guide, that gives you great ideas for your next visit down under, but it doesn't go any deeper than that. The historic details give lots of 'nice-to-know' information about the coast that is traveled.
A nice one to have on your coffee table, whether you want to visit Australia soon or just did.
