Classic example of Illustrating interesting careers
Gloria Skurzynski wrote this book back in 1981 so much of the material is dated as to the pictures and statistics. The book follows the careers of three women: a wildlife ranger, a wildland fire specialist, and a range conservationist. From encounters with bears to teaching environmental classes to tracking down the causes of forest fires this book helps one to understand the day to day duties of those people who take care of the recreation land around us.

Great for Kids and Mom and Dad Too
The story is very cute and the concept of some of the key words being in English and some in Spanish is great! Not only does it help children learn a few words in Spanish, it's great to help Mom and Dad too. :-)

Simply Magnifico
This is an excellent bedtime book. My daughter makes her Dora Night Night book request ever since we purchased it. It has excellent pronunciations for the Spanish illiterate as well as great illustrations. I highly recommend this book for your little Dora fans as well.

A great Dora book
If you're child is into Dora, this a well recommended book. I use it to help teach my daughter spanish and basic reading skills. Its fun and kids love it.

A helpful guide for experienced mushroomers
This field guide covers ascomycetes and basidiomycetes from southern California to the Rocky Mountains, and north to Alaska. Besides the major groups of fungi, there is a good description of how mushrooms grow, a glossary of mycological terms, mycological collections & societies, and instructions on successful collecting.

I own quite a few field guides on mushrooms, and rated this one a 3 because it probably would not appeal to first-time mushroomers. Mushrooms are described according to the latin name, but the common name is not included in the title. There is a list of common names in the back of the book, which is helpful, but would be more so if included in the title. There are not enough drawing and photos to assist amateurs in sure identification. There are several pages of color photos in the center of the book, and many b/w line drawings throughout. A nice feature is a series of keys for different species. You match up the qualities of your specimen and discard those that do not, until the correct name is found.

Although this is not the field guide I would pick up first to identify a mushroom, I have found its thoroughness helpful in narrowing down the possibilities because of the book's detailed descriptions.

This book has 120 plates of wildflowers and includes a paragraph for each one describing common as well as scientific names. It highlights regions and specific habitats where the flowers can be found. It is organized by plant families and includes space for readers to put their observations and sightings.
