Anyone familiar with the Brain Quest series knows what we have here: grade-specific questions from six different subject areas with which to test your child's knowledge. It is very open-ended: you can keep score, you can play in teams, or you can use the questions as the basis for any game you like.
My sister and I used Brain Quest 3rd Grade to keep our daughters entertained one long weekend. One girl just started 3rd grade and the other just started 4th grade. What we noticed is that many of these questions seemed to be in areas that even the 4th-grader had not covered last year. There were enough questions on the girls' level to keep them from feeling frustrated, but don't be surprised if you find a lot of them go over your kid's head. This is a series, especially in the math area, that gives your child's brain a good workout.

Every third grade teacher on the planet would have serious lust for the Brain Quest Third Grade set if they knew what it had in it. Lots of classroom time is spent lining up, waiting for the bell, waiting for the bus, waiting for this or that and any teacher armed with a Brainquest pack can put good use to the time and the kids will love it. Kids love to learn and the Brainquest series is built on the assumption that kids want to be smarter, want to know more, want to understand their world better. Little tiny bits of information on the Brainquest cards (which are anchored together by a sturdy plastic rivet) keep kids headed toward braininess. Instead of buying your third grader's teacher yet another mug or cute little apple desk decoration thingie, why not give her a BRAINQUEST? This pack has over a thousand questions and answers in a reader-friendly format. Don't let boredom drill into YOUR third graders' brains. Buy them a Brainquest and keep one in the car to make the most of travel time.

I am a children's librarian at a public library. I regularly read stories to visiting classes. Sometimes, I can see that a bright group of kids needs something fast to "warm them up". Asking a few choice questions from this source (answers are supplied also) always wakes up the group and puts them in a receptive mood for the stories.

I got this for my daughter when she was 2 1/2 and she had a lot of success with the questions. She often amazes me with the things that she does know, and takes great pleasure in these "surprises". I like this product because it covers so many different areas - letter identification, colors, numbers, and everyday knowledge. Her 7 year old sister also enjoys "quizzing" her, and they pass quite a bit of time this way on car trips. Now they can use their Brain Quest together. I do several pages for one while the other listens, then we switch. I started off with Brain Quest Toddler and plan to use them all as my children grow.

Our very-verbal two year-old LOVES this deck of questions, and she'll continue to get a lot of use out of it since there are many she can't yet answer. Very practical things that all kids should know are presented here.

I happened to stumble across Brain Quest for Threes and bought it because it's compact packaging looked convenient. I put in my car to pull out whenever I brought my 3 and 5 year olds to appointments or weekends away. I was thrilled to discover that my kids really enjoyed playing the game and I could easily play with them both by taking turns. There are so many questions that the cards always seem new. My 5 year old often pulls it out to play by herself and the easy to understand answer cards allow her to do so. I have purchased other Brain Quest products for the subsquent age groups.

My son loved the Q&A format of these cards and we exchanged "high fives" every time he got a "genius point." The cards include a good mix of super easy questions to more challenging ones--all targeted for a specific age level. It would be a stretch to call this game "educational" but the back and forth interaction between quizzer and quizzee provides great family fun. This works very well as a game to pass time in the car or on the airplane.

My kids love Brain Quest and we have used it for each of them from K through 4 so far. There are 1500 questions and answers. The questions are age appropriate and are challenging but are no so difficult as to discourage children. My son will pick up "the deck" (this book is really a stack of cardboard quiz card bound at one corner) and quiz himself for fun. What he didn't know before he might now. I highly recommend this educational tool.

My son and I played this during our recent vacation. We played for hours and hours, and could hardly put it down. We are going to buy more of the Brain Quest series in the future. Highly recommended.

My son and I played this game over and over. He chose it frequently as our quiet time activity. It gave us time together to learn and have fun in the process. The questions are age appropriate and thought provoking. Kids this age love to learn new things are so proud when they get the right answers. It is a nice quiet portable activity that can be taken to the doctor or on a car trip! A great gift idea, I would recommend this to everyone!

I love Brain Quest pre-school because it has lots of fun questions.I always bring it with me on long trips.I am in 4th grade now and have Brain Quest 4th grade.

My 3-year old and I have looked at these cards many times. She has most of them memorized. That is OK because now she likes to play teacher!

My 4 year old daughter loves to do the "quiz cards" before bed time. She doesn't mind the fact that we've done the set over and over at least 10 times!

This game is exceptionally diverting for boring car trips and waiting time for medical appointments. The kindergarten game does seem more appropriate for 4 year olds rather than 5-6 year olds if the child has had a lot of exposure to letters, colors, shapes etc. There are a few dreadful lapses in accuracy, among the worst being the placement of a penguin next to an Eskimo and igloo. The Eskimo/igloo cliche is annoying, but the transposition of that poor little penguin from Antarctica is inexcusable. Our pre-schooler concluded the penguin must be just visiting.

My son has used the preschool version and the Kindergarten version and loves both of them. It is a wonderful quiet activity to do together and portable enough to take on the road to the doctor's office or on a car trip. The questions are age appropriate and teach well. The characters are cute and engaging. A wonderful gift for boys and girls. My son learned a lot from these cards, and we had a great time together. He would also look through them by himself too. I would recommend these to anyone.

The questions are age-appropriate, but the presentation is somewhat dry,especially if your kids are used to the Brain Quest for preschool and kindergarten. There are very very few pictures in the First grade version, just several questions written on each card. Not as entertaining for kids as the Brain Quests with pictures. My sugggestion: look at it first at a bookstore before you buy it!

My first grade class loves Brainquest! We play it in a "family fued" type format with table groups competing. They have a blast and the material in the questions is very compatible with our curriculum and state standards. It makes a great game for rewarding them when we've finished everything, a good 10 minute filler, and a good activity to suggest to a substitute. They always get excited when we are going to play, and are requesting it often.

My older daughter loves Brain Quest, and I ordered this for my 2-1/2 year old son. They are great fun, and we often "play" with the decks instead of reading at night. Max the Monkey is fun, and my son enjoys looking at the pictures. I have been surprised at words he both does and does not know.

Some of the "answers" provided by Brain Quest are not words in a toddler vocabularly--for example, a picture showing what appears to be a box of crayons asks, "What are these called?" and the correct Brain Quest answer is "colored pencils." In another series of pictures, Max's slippers look more like shoes. However, these are minor things that are easily worked around--the parent can choose their own "right" answer. There way the questions are written easily lead you to make up your own questions.

The two things that could be improved upon: the is a 4" tall Max the Monkey included with the decks. It is supposed to be a child's playtoy, but it's made of FOAM. Needless to say, it was torn by the second day. Also, the plastic rivet that holds the cards together needs to be changed. It has the deck so tightly bound that I can't let my son turn the cards on his own--the cards would be terribly bent or torn. (The last Brain Quest I purchased had this same problem.)

Despite my negative sounding review, I am a big Brain Quest fan, and do like this Toddler's series. I would encourage any parent of a toddler to give this a try. Everyone learns from it, but in a fun, learning-through-play manner. The pictures are engaging, and a deck can easily be carried in a purse or backpack for outside the house.

The 2-3 year old guideline is appropriate. Very verbal, older 3 year olds will likely find this easy (which is great for their self-confidence), but may enjoy the challenge of the next level.

How do you make a smart preschooler? You ask them questions about everything, help them develop keener powers of observation, and guide them to be pattern recognizers. My First Brain Quest will help build toddler vocabulary, will lead little ones to keener observations and will keep up interaction between adult and child. Caregivers and foster care parents will love the structure provided by the sturdy cards hinged with a plastic rivet that keep the cards together and handy for constant use. Folks who provide CDA training and foster parent training, as well as parent-child interaction instruction will appreciate the slow pace and good feeling engendered by the BrainQuest preschool cards. They're a great way to train parenting skills of interaction (rather than imperatives) because they are founded on questions. The box also holds Max the Plastic MOnkey for the kids to hold onto while answering the questions, although he will probably get gnawed on as well as held in the hand. In preschool children, the name of the game is vocabulary. Being able to name your world is to have power over it. Brainquest does just that in a compact way. Great for pediatricians' offices, hospital waiting rooms, and other places you find parents and bored kids spending unstructured time.
