Cliff Notes to Clausewitz
Clausewitz is notoriously difficult for the novice to master -- some would argue that no one has ever entirely "mastered" Clausewitz. Be that as it may, a legion of frustrated amateur strategists can attest to the difficulty of picking up Clausewitz's "On War" and trying to read it through without a guide. In the "Clausewitz" volume in the Past Masters series, the novice as well as the experienced strategist can gain an introduction to the master's life, experiences, and writings that will make the first reading intelligible and that will serve as a quick review of Clausewitz's main concepts in a format that can easily be read in an evening.

This is a book that should stand next to "On War" in every strategist's library.

A classic and highly scholarly study of military theory
Clausewitz: A Biography by biographer Roger Parkinson relates the life and work of German officer and military theorist Carl Phillip Gottleib von Clausewitz (1780-1831) who is perhaps best known for his historic contribution to military studies titled "On War." Scrutinizing Clausewitz's life and ideas in the keenest detail, Clausewitz: A Biography is a classic and highly scholarly study of military theory, as well as a straightforward and very strongly recommended presentation of a great leader's life.

This book is phenomenal.
I bought this book at a yard sale, for my son when he was three. It made counting and number identification a breeze. He was able to understand the patterns and how numbers are repeated to make larger numbers. Before long he was reading the numbers in the grocery aisles, and counting up to and beyond 1000. I am now purchasing it for my daughter. This is a must have tool for young children.

A brilliant drag queen memoir
Margot Howard Howard's book is the best drag queen autobiography I know -- hilarious, marvelously detailed, and finally delightfully slippery. Who is this creature, and what about her could we ever be certain of? Ms Howard Howard demonstrates that identity is often found in performance, in the playing out of oneself,in costume and tale-telling and writing oneself LARGE. All aficionados of drag, all connoisseurs of the further reaches of the memoir, and all theorists of identity & truth-telling will love this book.

A beautiful book about a great artist
Perhaps the most famous 'outsider artist' L. S. Lowry is honored in this book. The reproductions of his throngs, smokestacks, and seascapes are many and beautiful, and the text is full of Lowry's witty quotes. A bit pricey, due to the independant press and high quality, but this is the only source I know of with this much of Lowry's work, and all in color. Please buy me one.

A Great Novel For The Young And Young At Heart
I had the pleasure of attending Rossford High School, where Mr. Michael Kreger teaches English. While I was never in any of his classes, friends of mine were and had nothing but extremely positive superlatives for the man. I also had the honor to see him lecture a few times about the subject of fiction in general, and was always amazed by his inventiveness, imagination, and sheer passion for life. This book relates the story of a young boy whose life is changed by a friendship with an older man, Melvin Howard. As the boy grows into a young man, Howard is always there with a sympathetic ear and, a thread common throughout the book, a great story to tell. This book is heartily recommended to the young, the used-to-be-young, the middle-aged, and the old. I echo the author's statement by wishing that this the first book in a long career of writing.
