Great book!
This book is a great book for kids and parents who love a good mystery. I loved it when I was younger and still enjoy reading this book. The friendly competition between the two sisters who are trying to solve the mystery makes it even more entertaining.

I would definitely recommend this book for someone looking for a fun, intriguing mystery.

Very interesting..
There is much to recommend here, most importantly that a Woman writer, previously neglected, has been given a much needed and much deserved second look by an academic scholar. Unfortunately, the author of this study has little in the way of sensitivity regarding theories of the Other, of the way that Women of Color have been utilized (i.e., put to work) within the fictionizing strategies of white Women, and how contemporary scholars who are Women of Color are challenging the very heart, the very *center*, of his/herstorical discourses mediated by white males. The writer of this book is at some pains to show us her approach as one embodied by feminism, but it unfortunately tends to the usual 'white males don't understand this' and 'white males don't get that', etc., instead of informing us about what *Women* think of Elizabeth Stuart Phelps now and in the past. Perhaps if the author of this study were to broaden her approach to include the incredibly brave and special readings of bell hooks as well as more familiar figures such as Spivak and (Cornel) West, we might have had a more imperative study than the one we have. Nevertheless, this is a first attempt at a book-length scholarly approach to Phelps, and it is a welcome start.

Deeply Disrespectful of Other Cultures ... a Shame!
In defense of this book another reviewer has written that it will "expand (children's) ideas of other cultures, histories, and possibilities." But what sort of ideas will they get? Nothing in these illustrations looks right - not the clothing, architecture, or landscapes, and definitely not the people! Not only will children receive a completely incorrect impression of Korean culture and peoples, but in fact the inaccuracy of these illustrations, and the obvious failure to do even basic research, shows a lack of understanding and a fundamental disinterest and disrespect for "other cultures." This sort of ignorance used to pass decades ago, but in 21st century, in our smaller, shared world, it is simply unacceptable.

Fictionalized story should not be considered to be a Legend
Readers beware and do not buy the book. This book meets Eliot Singer's definition of multicultural fakelore. Yes, King Sejong is credited for inventing Korean Alphabet but this book is a fictional creation by the author and the traditional community is totally unaware of it. Korean Americans I know who have read and seen the book is equally horrified that this book is being sold as a Korean Legend when they have never heard of such story. Other reviewers talk only of how the story can inspire others and how wonderful the illustrations are ignoring the fact that it is titled as a traditional legend of Korea when it is not. The title should be changed. My excitement of finding a book about Korean Alphabet quickly turned into a huge dissapointment. Please vote with your wallet--do not waste your money.

Bad illustrations -- culturally incorrect illustrations
Thumbs Down!! This "Korean Folktale" book's illustrations does not represent Korean culture at all. For example, it showed Koreans sitting on chairs (Chinese style) at home in the old days when they should be sitting on the floor and even Korean dresses were wrong. Almost every illustrations were misrepresentation of Korean culture. I have written a note to the publisher but have not heard from them. Couldn't they consult Koreans for this book
