Clear prose on the evils of the far right...
Sums up the lunacy of the far right in a great, well-written book.
Obviously has no clue - just check the title
Evangelicalism is a DISTINCT religious movement from Fundamentalism. The fact that the author IN HIS OWN TITLE confuses two different religious movements proves immediately that his book is just a slice of knee-jerk liberal paranoia.
In fact, most Fundamentalist writers (the vast majority of whom are self-published) have dwelt obsessively on the "apostasy" of Evangelical Christians in recent years. Even Jerry Falwell himself, when he thought he could take control of the Fundamentalist bus, wrote a book ("The resurgence of Conservative Christianity") that called Evangelicalism a movement led by "academics" that was "in neutral" while Fundamentalism was "in overdrive." Of course, the years have proven Falwell wrong, as Fundamentalism has declined and fragmented into a degenerate cultic fringe.
Confusing Evangelicals and Fundamentalists is like confusing Roman Catholics and Russian Orthodox. Ide should write about something he knows about.

A good work on Reagon politics, televangelism, & sexuality
Dr. Ide let's his opinion out in this summary of what appears to be his life's work. Almost every paragraph is footnoted although not all of these notes seem easy to locate and then deliver the information asserted. He has an excellent style and a wide vocabulary.
In the end I learned a great deal about Reagon politics and the women bashing, religous fundementalist, movements of the all to powerful televangelists of the 80's.

What can you say but - BLECH!
Probably the worst voice to come out of Christianity in a century, his pig-headed, condescending, all-righteious views mixed with lousy reading makes this a horrible excuse for a book. Avoid!

Mr. Falwell's narrow interpretation of the Bible should be factored in when anyone considers reading a book by him. He refuses to take into account modern science, common sense, and biblical-critical methods when expositing the Bible. One would do best to try some books by Fortress Press, Abingdon Press, or Shambhala for religious insights...
Jerry Falwell looks like he fasts on Ben and Jerry's
I can't help but be fascinated by both the title of this book, as the testimonies within it are wonderful- yet seeing Jerry Falwell's name seems to discredit the whole thing.

Eric Barger Traumatized me
Eric Barger sees Satan everywhere he goes. I saw him speak on the evils of everyone from Darth Vader to Dolly Parton when I was a kid in my Assembly of God church. He absolutely makes his living pointing fingers and "exposing" Satan in every aspect of modern entertainment....spend the time you would have spent reading this book talking to your kids about what is of God and what is fantasy or of the world..... You will definately be a much better testimony than this man.
