As a therapist, I have recommended this book to hundreds of people over the last 10 years. I usually order several at once and give them as gifts. No bookshelf should be without this one. Evan's work is a wonderful example of healing from trauma and finding healthy ways to tear the wall down in order to heal.

I bought this book for me many years ago. I loved it. My teen aged son also picked it up and read it. I did not realize what an impact it had on him at the time. He later took over "ownership" of the book. Then it was lost in moving. He still talked about the different stones and what they mean. It made a difference in the life of a teenager. You can't do much better than that....it is life changing.

I found this wonderful paperback in a little used bookstore about five years ago. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I read the entire book right there and found that I had tears in my eyes as I was reading. I have read it many times since that day. The simplicity and the power are so evident that you immediately think about your own walls. We all have them. I know I did for sure. I knew that day at the bookstore that this humble book had changed my life and I find myself thinking about what I had read and I know that I am a much more tolerant person because of it. I have this book displayed on my shelf right next to my Northwestern yearbooks because it is prepared in a simlar format. This book methodically and beautifully details the history of Northwestern University through illustrations, historic photographs, and memorable accounts that will keep you interested from start to finish. I particularly appreciated the aerial maps of the campus that appear at the beginning of each chapter. This shows the layout of the campus for the time period covered by the chapter, and truly shows the progress that has been made over the years.

My only complaint is that there were not more pictures of the building of the landfill section of campus. This, to me, is the most fascinating part of Northwestern's history and is now one of the most beautiful parts of campus. In summary, I would like to have seen a few more 'old vs new' photographs. The way it is, there are just enough to tempt the palette. So, it is only natural that, after reading this book, you will be thirsty for more. I hope a next edition will be written to answer that call.

As it is, this is a well-executed account of a terrific university. Happy birthday NU! And thank you, Mr. Pridmore, for this wonderful gift.

Having lived near Northwestern all my life, I thought I knew the history. However, 'little did I know!' This is an extremely well done book, the pictures are priceless as are the narratives. A must have for history buffs and university supporters.

I have very fond memories of the time I myself spent at NU, and this book never ceases to bring them back to mind! This sesquicentennial tribute does it all -- from detailing the history of the school as well as of longstanding Wildcat traditions (i.e., Waa-Mu, Mee-Ow, painting The Rock) to showcasing some of the Evanston campus' most "photogenic" spots. This is definitely a must-have for any NU-loving alum.

I teach 2nd graders, and I feel that 4 SQUARE is one of the best graphic organizers out there. The books do go beyond just organizing. They detail 4 writing styles along with examples and activities to help the children understand.

Not only are my 2nd graders are able to write on topic, they produce 4 paragraph papers by the end of the year!

I have been pushing 4 Square in my building for years. This year other teachers finally started using it. Now they come up to me thanking me for suggesting it.

This is a very practical, useful book for teachers working with writers grades 4-8. The 4-square method offers a simple, yet innovative graphic organizer which my students (7th grade reg. ed. and grades 5-8 learning dis./lang. impaired) found extremely easy to understand and use. The method is also helpful in notetaking from text or narrative, and the authors give some lesson ideas across curriculums.

The graphics are serviceable, but seem more appropriate for younger students.

My family is having lots of fun learning the forms in this book. Easy to understand and any child who can read and write can do it. This book helped me interest my children in writing, and sometimes I find them doing it on their own now!
