Benn's Big Book of Glaciers!
This book is hugely enormous, nd good value. It covers everything, but is a real mothful to try to read through. Look up everything in here, but a tough bed-time read....

Feel the passion with the glaciatiation "bible"
An excellent book, no student of glacial geomorphology can function without it.

Three Cheers to Benn & Evans...we've all been waiting for an all encompassing guide like this.

This publication is well written and timely
re: Douglas Evans' childrens book "So What Do You Do" (Front Street). The Mrs. and I found this publication well written and timely.

Would that more people were as socially conscious and caring about good teachers.

Two kids persist in helping someone who has helped them.
Reading this book can be a way for teachers and parents to open a discussion concerning homeless people. Written simply and respectfully.

Imagine finding a former teacher living on the streets!
I really liked this book. I was really strange reading about a boy who finds his favorite teacher panhandling. I can only imagine what I would do. Charlie helps his teacher and that is very good. I liked the ending.

A Sabre Pilot's Memoir
Douglas K. Evans' memoir of his service as an F-86 Sabre pilot during the Korean War not only gives the reader an insight into the world of an individual combat pilot, but also serves to illuminate several lesser known aspects of the Korean air war. Evans participated in the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing's interception of a Chinese bomber attack on US forces on Cho'do Island. This action was the only time that Chinese bombers attempted to bomb UN targets during daylight hours in the Korean conflict. Evans reports on the disasterous after effects of the 23 October 1951 battle between Soviet-piloted MiG-15s and USAF B-29s. Evans also served with the first African-American F-86 pilot (Dayton Ragland, later KIA in Vietnam). Evans' tone and style remain true to the period and to his profession. Evans' memory runs true to the historical record and his work is an excellent contribution to the literature on the Korean air war and has been of great value in my research. As an historical document this work is only limited by the scope of Evans' actual service. I highly recommend this book.

The plural is "cacti"
How can I trust the advice of someone who doesn't even know the correct name for his subject. Forget it.

the word is cacti?
Cactuses is now generally accepted as correct. Cacti is the older version of the plural form for cactus. Definitely a modern book.

From a frequent Big Bend NP visitor
This book is just what the non-botanist needs to identify and enjoy the "cactuses" of Big Bend NP. It is concise, accurate, and beautifully illustrated with photos taken within the park in natural habitats,...not in artificial greenhouse settings as with other cactus books. And, yes, in today's American English, cactuses is entirely proper.

Too Much Dust
If this were a movie it would be rated "R". It does not include foul language, erotic nudity, but it is filled with bloody and gory violence.

The story is about the Hart Brothers (the good guys) and the odd characters they pickup on their way to the anticipated Cedar City Rendezvous. There is a lot of dust flying around in the scene descriptions of this book; however, the dust does not subside when we are trying, for example, to understand the premise, rules, and outcome of the Cedar City Rendezvous. At times through the dust Douglas Savage gives us some redeemable moments. One learns of the need for horse care on the trail and the inadequacies of that day's "handirons". We also get a taste of "blinding sun", "rancid buckskins" and "ammonia vapors simmering up from pools of horse urine". On one hand we discover of the Cheyenne's respect for the bear and on the other we read a gratuitous account of descriptive mayhem committed by the Third Colorado Cavalry at Sand Creek in 1864.

This novel is not one of the brightest stars of story telling; much less of the Western genre.
