You only saw the side, Patsy wanted you to see.
Had I committed this crime and my friends saw me as the perfect mother, I would surely have expected the same. I remember a quote from a newspaper concerning the two students who murdered the Zantop Dartmouth professors, "If these two above average young men comitted this crime I would surely lose all faith in mankind." They confessed and were convicted. So I certainly think this book did nothing but circumvent the real issues, express one's own feelings and sympathy. Good try!

For non-thinkers only!
OK, we read about the perfect mother but have you ever considered how many criminals were true 'angels' before the were arrested for their hideous crimes? Too many indeed.
As far as I am concerned, Patsy Ramsey has to be judged based on the facts and not her life-style before the 25th December 1996, and the facts are that she may not killed her daughter, but surely covers up the killer..

A good book
This book shows the Ramseys from the point of view of close friends. I think it's great that so many people stood up for them. This book was not meant to address the case at all, just to show a different side of the Ramseys that we never see in the media. I believe the Ramseys are innocent. I was very moved about the part where Patsy invited her husband's ex-wife to spend Christmas with them, so she wouldn't be alone. How very compassionate. Susan Smith would never have this many close friends standing up for her..I think this is a great book for anyone interested in the case. For those who think the Ramseys are innocent, it just confirms it. For those who think they are guilty..perhaps it will help change a few minds.

poorly written and very unorganized
This text is very poorly written and proved to be an impossible study guide in my initial medical transcription course. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Difficult at first, but then got it.
I too found this book to be hard to understand at first. I thought I'd never get done with it. I decided not to let a book get the best of me so I really applied myself and soon I had the hang of it. The only thing I would have added to the book is more tests at the end.

What were they thinking?
I really, really wanted to like this book. I was expecting a humorous compilation of things which make these United States the greatest nation on the face of the earth. There is some of that. The book starts off with a paean to American-grown oranges (they are more orange than oranges grown elsewhere).

Then on page 4 we are treated to this great "thing": "You'll always remember your senior prom, especially if you weren't invited." Huh? This does not compute.

On page 61 we are informed that "Reading scores for kids can't possibly get lower." Well, yes they can. But how is that a great thing about America.

I also found several factual errors. For example, on page 20 the authors write "Even the District of Columbia has representatives to Congress." No, DC does not have representatives, DC has a nonvoting delegate in the House. Maybe this is splitting hairs, but the residents of DC thinks it matters.

Going through this book left a sour test in my mouth. There are so many great things about the USA, the authors could have done better.

godawful
The line "every body knows, that the world is full of stupid people" is just a lyric, not a story line for an entire novel. I was unable to finish it, and completely overwhelmed by the ongoing and absolute abundance of unbelievable stupidity. Not to mention, sincerely disappointed, as I usually enjoy her writing.

Bring back Kay Scarpetta.....
I have read all of Cornwell's Dr Kay Scarpetta novels and also the two other beakaway books (Southern Cross and Hornets Nest) and have to say that I was terribly disappointed in Isle of Dogs. If it were by any other author I would never have bothered finishing it but I kept hoping that some of the brilliant crime writing that I've grown to love from Cornwell would suddenly appear...not so.
The essays on Trooper Truth's website had me scratching my head wondering what on earth they had to do with the storyline. The talking crabs left me dumbfounded. And the almost total lack of mystery and serious crime writing made me decide once and for all that I would only read Cornwell's Scarpetta novels, no more Judy Hammer and Andy Brazil for me.
The one bright moment when Dr Scarpetta was brought into the story was soon extinguished as she lasted less than a chapter before Fonny Boy and his backwards talking started again.
If you are a fan of Patricia Cornwell's Dr Kay Scarpetta series then I would not recommend this book. But if you are after a light comedy and don't mind the lack of gripping forensic science that has made Cornwell famous then this book is for you.

Strangely Amusing
Get over it, people! So it isn't another Kay Scarpetta novel. BIG DEAL! It's nice to see an author I'm fond of venture into new territory on occasion.

I have read nearly every novel available by Patricia Cornwell, and yes, I did enjoy Isle of Dogs. Then again, I have a weird sense of humor and found talking seafood incredibly amusing. Yeah, a lot of the characters are odd, but don't you know some pretty freaky people if you think about it? As opposed to other reviewers, I understood the connection between the Trooper Truth essays and the overall novel. And I learned some interesting things in the process.

My main point is that Isle of Dogs was never intended to be another novel in the vein of Scarpetta. It is humorous, quaint, strange, and absorbing. Don't let other reviews throw you off. I enjoyed this book, and yes, I would definitely recommend it. Just make sure you have the right mindset going in. And please, don't overthink it!

Absolutely one of the worst books I've ever read
They should retitle the book "A Big Pack of Infuriating and Manipulting Lies" This book has nothing to do with God or Angels or Divine Teachings.

Absolutely bizarre incoherency from a guy who claims . . .
. . . to be the Angel of North America. The one to whom God told the secrets of how to live in harmony so that humanity is not plunged into another Dark Ages.

Read it for a laugh, and then shed some tears for a man who is 1) hopelessly insane, 2) So evil that he will say or do anything to earn money off people's fears, 3) simply odd and not quite coherent.

The author is the Angel's wife, and she was written down what the Angel says to her. One wonders at the honesty of this couple, but of course, I cannot say anything against, them, either. Certainly a fair amount of this book is good theology - be nice, do good, be concerned for your soul, marry with the attitude that marriage is lifetime commitment, and a few others. But it's just plain odd, and very, very creative (in a bad way) at times with theology.
