This book has a wealth on information on the Chromatics. That makes is valuable in itself for the Game, but teh galaxy shaking events that happen in the story add even more to its worth. If you plan on running any campaigns in Trinity, this is a must, it give information, serves as a springboard for your own ideas, and even gives youa glimpse at what White wolf could do next.

The Eye - Principles and Applications, was found to be an essential tool. Forrester aims (and succeeds) to inform in detail everything a first year university student needs to know about the eye. This is the beauty of the book: It doesn't skim over anything. When you're looking for a book to give more than a general overview, but don't need the complexity a post-graduate may, a book such as this is perfect. The only valid criticism may be that the included diagrams were erratic: some were perfectly presented, but others, whilst correct, were sometimes confusing, especially for students. Overall, a useful book for research and reference.

This book is the product of international work since 1994 among close to 80 professionals from 27 countries in order to re-define and bring consensus to the issue of measuring and monitoring the status of children in our societies.
For many years many countries have gathered information and statistics about their children, but mostly in the area of basic needs and survival. This book and the international project is going beyond and looking at indicators to measure and monitor the well-being of our children. A task not easy to come about, but important, because it will provide important information, knowledge, tools for better planning and make monitoring more possible, when you have hard facts to compare with.
This book has nine chapters: Rationale for measuring child well- being, existing efforts around the world, basic guidelines, five new domains, indicators, how to measure, the community level, making of policy and summary with an agenda for future efforts in this field.
The message of the book is the importance of measurements of child well-being finding indicators that you will be able to monitor over time both improvements and change. The new approach can be described as looking at well-being instead of just survival, from negative aspects to positive aspects of child life, from well-becoming to well-being and from traditonal to new domains. The five 'new' domains the authors propose are in children's activities, children's economic resources and contribution, civic life skills, personal life skills, and safety and physical status with 49 indicators.
This is an easy-to-read book with good information for professionals trying to find ways to measure and monitor well-being in today's children and adolescents.

This is a cute little Wizard of Oz item. It has approx. 10 pages, and a playset where you can put the little people where you want to. Go ahead and get it, although you might feel like sending it back. It's geared for kids

This was my second 3D Studio max book. Buying it then was a mistake. There are many introductory books out there and this is one of the best but the problem is that the followup to this book; Inside 3DSMax vol 2, has everything vol 1 does and more. Get it if you are just starting out, and then I hope you are not scared of big books because this is where you start off, and start off well. If you already know your way around Max and just want to know advanced stuff like material manipulation and smoother models, get volume 2.

Inside 3DStudio MAX At last!The book we all waited for.Inside 3DStudio MAX,writtten by Steven Elliot & Phillip Miller;authors of Inside 3DStudio Release 3 & 4.Some said that Inside series is better than the manuals.Well,to tell you the truth,they are quite right. The book is very well structured.It has 29 chapters,starting from explaining the core concepts of MAX,and ending in Network Rendering.Every chapter has its introduction and summary,that's very good 'cause you know what's the chapter about and the summary reminds you the most importants parts. It is not a book that throws you some tutorials only.On the contrary,the writers pay attention to general knowledge an animator must have.Mixing colors and light,story boarding,etc.. Every button is explained thouroughly in the book.It teaches you the best way to model and animate efficiently every model you can think of. Of course,it has some drawbacks.Material editor,Video Post,Space Warps & Particles are not explained in depth.Although there is a solution to that(in February 2 more Volumes will be published:Inside3DStudio MAX Volume II:Advanced Modelling & Material Editor,Volume III:Animation & Character Studio),who wants to buy 2 more books that costs 110$ additionally?(Answear:Me..:P).Another drawback is that the book has color photos only in the chapters that refer to Material Editor(although some will say that's no big deal).And the CD that is included with the book has 200mb of textures.O.k ,where's the drawback?:) Only a few of them are useful.90% of them are very artistic and extend beyond the needs of traditional animators.I think that whoever makes the textures(by the way Tim Forcade,who included textures in 3DStudio 4 Hollywood & Gaming Effects & Indide 3DStudio 4),should have in mind that animators need practical textures like wood,metals and stuff and not abstract paintings.... Inside is for the novice and for the experienced animator,and it is by far the No.1 if you want to master MAX. "Inside 3D Studio MAX should be a part of every serious animator's library"(Larry Crume,Vice President,Autodesk and General MAnager,Kinetix)

There's a thing common to all classic books: even if you've read one from cover to cover you discover something new every time you open it. Things that you glossed over earlier suddenly start to make sense. This book is no exception. Since 'Inside 3D Studio Rel. 3' the authors have provided an unique insight into the world's most popular 3D programs. This book raises the standard even further, providing enough grip for the novice and a treasure trove of knowledge of the professional. The best thing about this book is the explanation of the PRINCIPLES behind 3D Studio MAX. Instead of the 'do this-screen shot-do that' methodology, the authors have concentrated in the core ideas behind every tool and procedure. If you want MAX to be an extension to your right brain, get this book. Read it all the time. Do the tutorials. Keep referring to it for ideas. You'll discover what you were missing with other books -- the real goods on making MAX dance to your tune.

I was very disappointed in this book. Having read all of his previous books, I assumed this one would be good too. The main character Hack Holland is believeable but there is not enough substance to carry the plot. I bought this book to read for my summer vacation up north and ended up with no book to read and no place to buy another one.... can anything be more depressing!..sorry James Lee

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Hank Holland. The JLB style remains the same with the tough, rough main character, plagued by his own demons,but ultimately righteous in the end. It was enjoyable (and available in Mexico in Paperback, so not thoroughly out of print...) I'd read another book about the same character and I've read all but the most recent one of the Dave Robicheaux collection.

This will be a departure in some way for people that have read the series about Dave, but for those of us that simply love his written word, this is a stunning piece of work by Burke. I have read this book twice, something I don't do too often because there are just too many things stacked up in my "to read" pile. Hack is a good man plagued by demons of his own making, something that is NOT a departure in a Burke novel and is what makes this book one that is not easily forgotten. I think that the struggle we all make in our lives to do what is "right" is just rife with areas of grey. This is what makes reading this (and any) Burke novel an experience rather than several hours to kill time with a story. Just my opinion, I've been wrong before, as someone much wiser than me once said.

Tangled Web is a great concept. Cool writers get to do Spiderman related stories. Volume 1 has some of the best stories including Flowers For Rhino (Rhino becomes super smart) and Severance Package(which shows what happens to one of Kingpin's lieutenants after Spiderman messes up an operation). Sadly, as a whole, the series is uneven.

This edition of Tangled Web is volume III. I cannot attest to the goodness of this volume because i have not read all the issues it collects, but it contains my favorite issue of Tangled Web, #13 which features a villain bar populated by Doc Oc, Matador, Stiltman, and Whirlwind. The story centers around a Mystery Man, The Vulture, and Kraven meeting in a bar and swapping stories. The Vulture/Kraven dynamic is hilarious but the last two pages of the story would stun any spiderman fan. I don't want to spoil it, so just find the back issue or buy this book.

The book explains the fundamentals for design and methodology of SOCs. It also addresses the design reuse concerns. However, the book does not cover practical examples of SOC design and does not explain the difference between ASICs and SOCs.

Our teacher chose this never ending phone book for the relatively simple language of SQL (not Transact SQL)! I have found FREE online tutorials that say more in one paragraph than this author can say in 700+ pages! He didn't even bother to define the variables until chapter 6! His other books on SQL may be easier to read, but if your buying a book exclusively for SQL you may want to choose any one but this one!

Would extensive 7.0 coverage be too much too ask? I don't think so, and I don't think you will either. If you're like me, you'd come to this book expecting full coverage of the latest version of the language. Unfortunately, you won't get it -- it's not to be found between these covers. There's way too much time spent on the essoteric, and not nearly enough spent on the current version of the technology. First, they shouldn't be using old-style joins, particularly outer joins, because these can yield incorrect results. Second, they shouldn't be querying system tables directly when INFORMATION_SCHEMA views or system stored procedures will return the same info. Third, they shouldn't be delving into things like runnin bcp.exe from Transact-SQL in order to import data into the server - what a Rube Goldberg idea, especially when we have the BULK INSERT command built right into the language. Wouldn't waste my money on this if I were you.

I've owned this book for over two years and I still go back to it as a reference. It covers Sybase SQL Server 11.5 and Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 (with limitted coverage of 7.0) so it is now a bit dated for Microsoft, but is still viable for Sybase use.

I would love to see an updated version of this book for the Microsoft side. But this book is an excellent reference for determining the difference between the Transact-SQL languages in Microsoft vs. Sybase.

The Microsoft and Sybase T-SQL languages were similar when this book was written, but have probably diverted even more since MS bought the license for SQL Server from Sybase. As much as I would love to see an updated version of this book, the new version would probably be more difficult to write.

It's still a great reference for Transact SQL and I can't knock the book for age when it's a classic.
