Defiant Teens:A Clinician's Manual for Assessment and Family
Defiant Teens: A Clinician's Manual for Assessment and Family Intervention is a very practical book for clinician's who work with teens with behavior disorders. It combines the best elements of behavioral therapy without ignoring the crucial role the family plays in treatment.

The book begins by presenting a comprehensive model for teen behavior, which includes discussion of mental disorders, parenting, and developmental factors. Then it describes instructions for 18 structured sessions that are used to treat the family and adolescent. It includes handouts, which may be reproduced if you buy the book.

I have used this book in practice as a substance abuse counselor in a correctional facility and found it to be very useful. It is a valuable resource for anyone working with difficult to treat teens and their families.

The best part of this book is that it is written like a workbook. Unlike many books on the matter, it includes step-by-step instructions that are grounded in theory without putting you to sleep. The handouts and session descriptions can be adapted and added to a clinician's toolbox. I would recommend this book to anyone who treats adolescents.

down to earth book for people like you and me
I have just finished a class using this book, and on the whole its done a good job. I didn't find it in any way super special or anything, but I could read it and understand it. As far as math books go that is pretty good. Lots of exercises with answers in the back, which is what you need. Usually there are worked out examples of the most standard problems, but not always, e.g. there is no example of residue calculus with a Log function.

Henry Irving's Waterloo: Theatrical Engagements With Arthur Conan Doyle George Bernard Shaw Ellen Terry Edward Gordon Craig: Late-Victorian Culture

An unusual look at (theatre) history
King's book deals with the performance of Arthur Conan Doyle's short play "A Story of Waterloo" by eminent Victorian actor Henry Irving and a devastating review of this production written by George Bernard Shaw in 1895. The play is about an old and feeble soldier who has played a heroic role at Waterloo and pathetically dies while reliving his finest hour, thereby bringing the house down (in the theatre, that is). King uses this intersection of two remarkable theatrical careers to consider the Victorians' retrospective glance at the Napoleontic wars, the nature of Irving's performance, which by modern standards would be inconceivably sentimental, Irving's relation to his audience, Shaw's development as a critic and playwright, Irving's leading lady Ellen Terry and her son, the theatre director, designer and Irving acolyte Edward Gordon Craig. An instructive and entertaining read for anyone with a broad interest in the theatre and (cultural) history. Highly accessible, but marred by some unnecessary excursions into academic obscurities that the opening chapters had led me to believe were going to be avoided. Still, fascinating stuff.

an able collection of key alchemical writings....
....recommended for the collector of alchemical treatises. One could wish for some commentary on the symbolism in the texts, but you'll find some of that in Jung's work.

A history of Rome to A.D. 565
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Authors: Arthur Edward Romilly Boak and William Gurnee Sinnigen
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $19.00
Average review score:

A textbook on Rome to AD 565. Quite thorough.
This is a textbook, no doubt about it. But it's still very readable and informative. The author attempts to limit himself to description of those events for which contemporary or near-contemporary accounts are available. For example, he omits all description of Rome under the kings, since the earliest manuscripts about them are from hundreds of years later. He even goes so far as to state that Romulus may not have been a historical person! There is a ruthless zeal to de-sensationalize Roman history by omitting scandalous details, making the book less exciting than it could be. But this is a textbook, not entertainment. There are excellent sections on economics, agriculture, literature, and the arts as they developed through Roman history. Significant treatment is also given to the Roman military system and its evolution as a core element of Rome's culture. If you want to learn about Rome and don't want to hear about the "juicy details", get this book. Otherwise, to AD 100, get Livy.

A comprehensive look at a man just won't seem to go away
The book is written by three veteran New York City reporters who were immersed in Koch's politics during his administration. Now, on the eve of his successor's inauguration for a second term, Koch is still in the news almost daily, making this book on his City Hall past -- what he does and doesn't want you to know -- a must for interested parties.

Home town spy revealed!
Being from Edward Bancroft's hometown, Westfield MASS, and having written a play about him, I was curious about his treatment in this book and especially his sinister final relationship with Silas Deane. Good reading. Well done!
