I'd taken a class in Situational Leadership years ago when I was at IBM. Having taken nearly every management course that's come down the pike I can tell you it was the only that I could use at the end of the first day of training . . . and use at home! This little book, The Situational Leader has all the same material that was in my class: how to vary your style to meet the needs of people you want to lead, how to diagnose readiness, how to develop people and what to do when performance slips. I use it in my consulting practice now. This material is over thirty years old and more useful now than ever before! I gave it 5 stars and recommend it to anybody who wants to be more successful and effective at leading up, down, across and at home.

I recommend this text in the management and supervisory classes I teach. It has a little bit of something about many topics which will assist supervisors and managers. And, to be quite honest, it provides enough buzz-words and buzz-concepts to allow the reader to sound up-to-date and knowledgeable in a discussion of organizational issues! The wide range of material in this book is what justifies an otherwise fairly steep price-tag.

I guess I should have paid more attention to the reviewer who wrote "It doesn't probe because Lori Foster's romance is catered to entertain" and less to the one who stated "Worthy of serious attention." Foster's Impetuous is such formulaic tripe it is laughable: woman has traumatic past rendering her distrustful of men (or a particular man); womanizing, popular, handsome, successful man meets aforementioned woman and is instantly smitten for inexplicable reasons.

That said, I should mention this is my first Foster purchase and I wasn't certain what to expect (I missed the Harlequin Romance mention somewhere along the line, which would have changed my frame of reference). The author does a good job of writing the passion scenes, and the supporting characters round out the story nicely.

This was one of those books I couldn't put down because A) I was hoping it would get better and B) I really did want Carlie and Tyler to get together in the end. If you like a predictable romance novel that can be read in one afternoon or evening, you'll like this story!

Lori Foster is a wonderfully talented author of sensuous romantic fiction. I purchased this book unaware that it was released first in 1996. The story is very satisfying but lacks the depth (and heat ;) ) that her more recent works have. Foster's fans will appreciate how much her talent has evolved in the years since Impetuous was first released.
