This Is For General Microsoft Knowledge
I originally meant to buy Exam Cram not Exam Prep. When using Exam Prep I thought it did not prepare me for the tests. I have used one of the Exam Cram books for TCP/IP and thought it prepared me quite well. If your looking to take your MCSE test buy EXAM CRAM not Exam Prep.

Excellent !!!
I've been teaching the MCSE courses and on of my students brought the Exam Crams and Exam Prep books in the class, asked me to read and rate them. After reading through these books, I found these books are just excellent. They are full of technical stuffs, written in real English, and in a readable manner. I have even "talked" to one of the authors of the book as well (and his name is Ed). Ed was expert in the field and he was very fun to" talk" to. I definitely would recommend the books to all my students, friends.

Good as textbook, not so good as exam prep
There are two phases to preparing for an exam: learning the basic material first and getting an overall picture of the subject, then intense review. I would recommend this book only for the first phase. I would use Exam Cram or something else for the intense review phase. This book appears to have been written as a textbook and looks like it would actually make a pretty good textbook. It has case studies which might be good for thinking through how NT actually would be integrated into an enterprise, and I saw only a few errors. I did not read all the case studies though. I felt one study did not teach good practices; the "right" answer called for creating a peer network of 40 workstations, which is twice the maximum size I've seen recommended anywhere else.

Kind of hard because it's so detailed.
It's a good book. Only thing I don't like about this book is it doesn't have answers for review questions. This book will be good for somebody tracking an MCSE course and tired of Sybex's.

A handy pocket-book for SHO's/junior residents starting out.
This is a welcome addition to the Oxford Handbook series, which is so popular with medical students and trainee doctors throughout the English speaking world. As an overview or introduction to Accident & Emergency Medicine it is comprehensive in the topic areas it covers. It does not dwell on theoretical detail, but acts as a practical guide for students and junior doctors unsure of the initial assessment and management of common emergency problems. A criticism I would offer is that this book is lacking somewhat in detail in terms of the management of many conditions, offering the advice "refer to specialist" all to frequently. In a climate where emergency physicians are expanding their role, this may limit the use of this book in the near future. Overall, for the medical student or first time doctor in A&E, this is a very useful resource to have readily available.

A valuable reference!
I am a Registered Nurse working a variety of remote locations providing paramedic support. I have examined a number of reference publications and have found this to be one of the best. It is concise, easily accessable and provides sufficient information to perform most procedures listed. I agree that it may sometimes lack detail - however, you must draw the line between a ready reference and a definative text.

It would be an ideal electronic ref - hopefully OUP will consider this in the near future.

IMHO the best available.

No life to be found in this life
There are a number of very good reasons to buy this. But hoping to find a life of Moses is not one of them.

Kirch is very good on the sources who wrote the Bible, and his knowledge of Midrash is astounding.

But he is weakest on the very thing the book advertises - the life of Moses. The story of Moses - unwilling prophet wandering through the desert with a group of thankless former slaves and a God who doesn't know whether to embrace him or kill him - is one of the most moving in all of literature.

Yes, literature. I'm no fundamentalist.

Yet rather than dealing with the text and exploring the relationship between Moses and the Israelites or Moses and God (which for me rivals the relationship between Hamlet and himself), he tears the text apart, searching more often not for who Moses was but for who wrote the Bible.

Much of what he writes is interesting and provocative, though sometimes condescending. But it does not provide a life of Moses.

The Real Moses? Who Knows!
Since there is no archeological evidence that Moses ever existed, author Jonathan Kirsch uses the words of the bible, together with modern biblical scholarship to re-create the great prophet who exists between the lines of scripture. Kirsch goes through each chapter of the bible beginning with the book of Exodus and ending with the book of Deuteronomy and shows where various traditions and counter-traditions might have intersected. He shows the Moses who is portrayed as a great hero by the "Deuteronomist" and the Moses whose role is diminished by the "Priestly source." He discusses virtually every theory including the theory that their were two Moses and the first was murdered! This is surely not the book to read if you are a bible literalist (or an Orthodox Jew) and I certainly don't agree with all his points, being partial to the biblical story myself. But Kirsch is a lively writer and it is an interesting read nonetheless, as is Kirsch's "King David".

i never read the bible until now
this book was brilliant. if you take a look at what biblical biographies are available in the world, you would realize how good this one is. kirsh gives an engaging analysis into both the religious and historical evidence of not just moses, but the events surrounding his life as well. this includes the egyptian lifestyle, and the history of the early mediterranean.

i went to catholic school, and i never read the bible until after this book!

Good concept, bad execution
If you've got access to the 2nd edition of Talislanta, this book adds a lot in the realms of Magic and provides a few interesting plot hooks and story lines. But the book is little more than a rehashing of a favorite game with a few illogical rule changes and a couple of new sketches.

Thin
The only word to describe this bio is "thin'. The book, at only 233 pages (paperback) lacks any real depth or thorough understanding of Palin. The author appears to have gone the easy route and just done a cut and paste of the wealth of material publicly available on the author, and jsut pursues the obvious themes.

Good overview to DNA, but disappointing examples/exercises
This book starts out with some good overview chapters of Windows DNA-- relating all the various technologies (SQL Server, Visual Basic COM, MTS, ADO, ASP, and DHTML) in an easy-to-read way. It also promises to guide the reader through creating a DNA application (a simple online banking application) through examples and exercises in each chapter (This walkthrough approach was the main reason I chose this title over the Wrox book).

While the early chapters on system design and data stayed well-focused on relating each new concept to the online bank example, the remaining chapters did not. Instead, the authors presented only very basic code snippets, unrelated to the sample application, and many of which contained typos or were otherwise non-working (as of this date, the publisher's website still does not offer errata or fixed code samples for this book). For this reason, I cannot recommend this title to a beginner or intermediate programmer/analyst. Since the content is focused towards these groups, advanced programmers will likely pass up this book in favor of the Wrox title. I sure wish I had!

Do not waste your money!
I am a MCSE who looked at this book for use when studying for my tests. Now, a networking class is using this as a manual and I have to say something. This book does not cover the material well enough to take the tests nor in depth enough to actually do Enterprise networking with NT.
