An eloquent presentation of Husserl's phenomenology
Natanson's book is amazingly well-written. Husserl's often difficult and wordy ideas of phenomenology are covered clearly enough for the beginner, and in-depth enough for the student of Husserl. Natanson offers not just a review of phenomenology, but covers all from attitudes to methods, existence to the application of phenomenology. This is the first book I recommend to anyone studying Husserl.

Provides a guide to fragmentary documents of daily life
Encyclopedia of Ephemera provides a guide to fragmentary documents of daily life, from postcards and theater programs to laundry lists, and blends a survey of artifacts and art with a history of ephemeria collecting. The author's artifacts come from world sources and provide an excellent survey of ephemera's meaning and social history.

A brilliant overview
This is a fascinating and erudite overview of medieval Europe - one that combines lucidity and accessibility with an exceedingly high level of scholarship. Maurice Keen is a distinguished proponent of the Southern tradition of medieval history, and a ready reminder that the school of Bruce McFarlane is not the only voice of Oxford medievalism.

Escape from the French: Captain Hewson's Narrative 1803-1809
Published in Hardcover by Book Sales (1983)
Author: M. Hewson
Amazon base price: $4.98

Average review score:

For those interested in Napoleonic Wars, and Naval history
This release of Captain's Hewson's narrative is a hard-cover version which has been edited by Antony Brett-James and is worth snatching up. He has taken Captain Hewson's accounts and provided an excellent introduction to the story which not only sets the scene, but explains much of the background to the narrative. It is also lavishly illustrated with both maps and pictures of the various places in France - and people.

The story itself is gripping. Captain Hewson was a Naval officer who was captured off the coast of France just after the failure of the treaty of Amiens in 1803 - and thus he became one of Napoleon's Prisoners. His march to his 'prison' in the central France town of Verdun was gruelling and he almost didn't survive. His description of his life in Verdun, the conditions and his further escape attempts are left unedited but Brett-James provides helpful footnote to help explain things.

There have been several books on British prisoner's of wars over the years - Roger Boutet de Monvel and Mrs Elton have both written collective stories of several prisoners or escapers. They are also both quite good - but out of print now of course. They both also lack the wonderful advantage this book has, its illustrations. They are drawn from many contemporary sources and they just bought the whole thing alive me for me.

Eva Hesse:a Retrospective: Exhibition catalogue
I saw this exhibit at Yale University, and it blew my socks off! The work depicted in the catalogue is well documented, and allows you to see the progression Hesse's work underwent during her short life. This is a book that I have treasured for a long time, and that I am sure I will continue to treasure.

Voices From The Underground.
A collection of substantial literary material from one of the best voices of dissidence & nonconformism;gems that howl, speak & whisper from the side of literatures remorseless tongue.Personal faves here are the excerpt from Alexander Trocchi's novel "Cains Book";Octavio Paz's essay;Robert Coover's "The Square Shooter & The Saint";Ginsberg's "Howl" of course;Kerouac's "October In The Railroad Earth",the interview on Louis-Ferdinand Celine;& many more. Not only is this good reading material to ingest differentiating one from the usual academic blah that turn a lot off to literature;it also familiarizes oneself to a lot of talented & great authors that one may not be aware of if not for this impressive book.

The Text for Mathematical Models of Reality
From discrete to continuous modelling, with many proyects and examples, I like very spacially this book for the undergraduate level. The presentation is very clear, but rigurous, making experience the reader through the models. It focuses on the interpretation and ends with some tools for modelbuilding. For a start of mathematical model understanding of reality this book is specially good, clear and completely well written. Good job Mr. Giordano and Weir! Tour de force of the fisheries of Alabama
This superb piece of scientific collection reporting is as through as it is attractive. It has the handsome feel of a coffee table book must for any angler, but is pure field biology, down to the nuanced tales of specimen collection and recording.
