a heartwrenching story of a mother's love
There's no love like a mother's love!
As a mother, I read this book with a clenched heart! The outpouring of love from a mother to child is overwhelming in the best of circumstances. Grace had strength that could have only been God-given! A 'must' read for all who have ever loved a child.
Amazing novel that you'll carry with you for ages....
I read this book and was just amazed at how in put you in touch with what a person dying of AIDS is going through. Denker is an amazing author and really tore at your heart with this book. My mother read it, reccomended it to me, and by the time I was done, I was hugging her and thanking God she wasn't dying like Grace Cameron, because Kathy had to be suffering at knowing she would lose the person most important to her.

An excellent story, well written with exciting characters
I read this book several years ago and enjoyed it. It came into my possession again recently and it was like meeting an old friend again. The story of Sam Horowitz and Mrs. Washington is touching and heartwarming. To sumarise this book and tell the story of Sam Horowitz, an American Jew who is mugged and slashed by black 'savages' and then has a stroke while having his face stitched, sounds so depressing, but then one meets Sam, and Mrs. Washington, his black nurse, and Mona, his typically Jewish daughter, and finds the lovely Jewish wit of Sam and the strength of Mrs. Washington. Mr. Denker, thank you for the enjoyment you have given me, not just by introducing me to Sam, but for also introducing me to Harry Spencer (in a later novel) - two of the most lifelike characters I have ever met.

Excellent reading, a pity it had to end!
What an excellent book! From beginning to end, this book was a great commentary on the similarity of discrimination between African Americans and Jews throughout history. Wonderfully written, and highly recommended.

Interesting, Well Paced Novel.
This books begins with an unemployed actress who gets pregnant with her unemployed actor boyfriend. She decides to put her baby up for adoption after she moves home and splits up with her boyfriend. A married couple who lost their first child to SIDS adopts the baby. Two years later, circumstances change and the acting couple has reunited and hit it big. They decide they want their baby back and take legal steps to do so.
As we all know, this book was taken out of the headlines in the newspapers. The author was smart and careful NOT to try to sway your sympathy too much one way or another. He didn't demonize either party but presented their side of the argument as fairly as he could. I really liked that.
This book appealed to me as a mother, how would I feel in either situation. Can't say much about the ending (HATE it when people give it away) but I really enjoyed the book. Hope you will too.
The Real World

Emergency Fairy Tale
Dr. Forrester, an ER resident doctor, gets entangled in a legal nightmare involving a stereotypical fat cat in NYC politics. The technical side of the audiobook is excellent -- little repeats at the beginning of each side, clear identification of cassette and side etc. But the story is sadly out of sync with any reality. Stereotypes abound, the brave young idealistic life-saving doctor, rural background and all: But how in the world would a resident get sued with no attending physician involvement? Where in the world were the supervising docs in that ER set-up? How can a doctor be so smart in her field of study and be so dumb as to go on city TV to "defend her case" against lawyer's advice and without her hospital's permission? How would a lawyer and a young doctor be able to stand for hours in a downtown neighborhood observing a drug dealer close-up without being accosted? The lack of basic research by the author into the subject matter he writes about, the stenciled characters and the cliche-laden, dead prose style combined make this into about the worst example of pulp fiction imaginable. It is disheartening to see what the genre supports.

Shallow characters and poorly researched
A very disappointing book. The story is simply beyond belief. The actions of David Kirk and Judge Malachi would have had them both disbarred. I can understand the author not bothering himself with learning something about the law, but where was the editor? The characters were wooden. It has been a long time since I read a book this bad.

I kept stopping while reading to check on my sleeping daughter, or just hug her. Any mom should read this...a reminder to count our blassings.
