This is the kind of book that kids love to imitate. I have seen school classes take off on its two word rhymes and make books of their own. The images are very natural to kids used to computer screens; it's the grown-ups who lag in their visual skills. While Damp Camp is definitely about summer camp, it is also about having fun with words and about connecting words with experience. Buy and try!

My first grader and his friend both checked out this book and couldn't put it down. They are both good readers and loved it. It is hard to find something that boys this age find exciting, but this was it. They read the whole book in a day. I had to see what was so neat about it so I read it and also enjoyed it. A great beginning chapter book for kids. They can't wait to read the other scaredy cats books.

As a fifth grade teacher, I found this book to be an excellent source of space history. When combined with other materials, students get an excellent background of space exploration and information about the moon.

As far as I know there is no edition in the english language of this book(the french edition is of 1983 by Editions Julliard). This book is very well written and starts with the first abdication of Napoleon in 1814,his exile in Elba,his return to power,the fiasco of Waterloo and ends with his second abdication. I have read many books about Napoleon and the history of the first empire,most of them by british and american writers who are generally military history buffs that simply do not understand or care about french internal politics.In this book Georges Blond dissects the political situation during the hundred days and the Waterloo campaign gets only one chapter.I recomend this book for those who want to know what Napoleon's true situation was during these hundred days.It is funny but I find that french historians,with the exeption of military-patriotic authors,are not so overawed by the figure of Napoleon as their british and american colleagues.Georges Blond's book on the Grande Armée has been translated into english(I have not read the book yet)and I think that an english translation of Les Cent-Jours is long overdue.

If you think you are being singled out by many of the people around you - try and remember what you might have done to them. They maybe out to make you pay for their discomfort. Well, if they have read one of Hayduke's books - you are in big trouble.
