Intriguing, sensual, borderline controversial, and intense.
This collection of poetry written by gay authors is a collaboration of the sensual, the emotional, the controversial, and the satisfying aspects of everyday life as a homosexual. Some of the poems deal with heavy emotions of love and rejection, while others regail past experiences that leave the author feeling relieved and the reader feeling exhuberant. There are poems that will uplift you, poems that will make you go "Ugh!" and poems that will make you think about their content, analyzing it until you can only think about the personal meaning behind every line. This collection is brilliantly composed by Gavin Geoffrey Dillard, who also includes some of his poetry, and he has done a masterful job of giving us a collection that inspires pride and emotion is everyone who reads it. Don't miss this book!

Already submitted......A Century of Gay Poetry
This is not a review, I already submitted a review on the 30th of May, 2000 But I wanted to sumit a correction in the body of my review. I mentioned the poem "How to watch your brother die" and I attributed it to the wrong poet, the poet is Lassell, NOT Michaud. Thank you for letting me suggesting this correction in the body fo the review. And I understand that it best to let readers rate the number of stars in the rating system......forgoing contributors in this anthology, who may be biased. Thank you...for this opportunity to reach out in your space here at Amazon.com

A Century of Great Gay Poetry
The amazing thing about this anthology is that it combines poets who were born before our Civil War here in the USA and baby boomers poets. This is a remarkable international gathering of poets, from France, Genet; from England, Edward Carpenter; Japan, Takahashi; Spain, Lorca; ...to name a few. I learned a lot about gay poets from this anthology and I searched for more poems in other collections from my two favorite poets in this collection, Lorca and Carpenter; and really enjoyed what I found. It was this collection that opened up the world of gay poets to me and I thank Gavin Dillard for the care he took in assembling this volume. I am very excited to have been included in this volume, and would like to hear from others who have been included in these pages, and Readers who like what they see here in this book. I thank Amazon.com for providing this network for those interested in the world of literature. I would like to thank Michaud for his poem, "How To Watch Your Brother Die" a poem that deeply touched me. I am out of the closet in this reveiw as far as my e-mail goes, people wishing to connect with me can do so at: vytautasp@aol.com

Very Practical and Revealing on Quality Management
A definite read for the person who needs to know the practical issues about Quality Management.

Ideal introduction to Deming's approach to management
One of few books about Deming actually endorsed by Deming himself - "It is a pleasure to commend this book to anyone for easy reading of the principles of management..." (Foreword). A step-by-step, practical introduction to the basics of Deming's management philosophy, far easier to read than Deming's own books, but not attempting to reach the depth of the system of profound knowledge outlined in "The New Economics." Of particular use to managers and students in understanding Deming, and to educators in preparing several famous demonstrations, including the Red Bead Experiment and the Funnel Experiment, with ample illustrations. This is not a lecture, but a self-paced "fun" substitute for "the real thing" (Deming's four-day seminars). Highly recommended.

A must read for Deming Devotees
This book is unique. It has a format that shows f three levels of the Deming philosophy. It deliniates the viewpoint of the man who led those amazing seminars, It brings the subject to earth with a narrative, and it supplies the wonder of a first-time participant. This is the book I give my students when they ask what Dr Deming was like.

Mormon and Catholic debate the nature of God.
Latter-day Saints do not have a strong apologetics tradition. Basically, we say "Read the Book of Mormon, pray over what you have read, and then be honest with the answer you receive." (Book of Mormon, p. 529-530; Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 61-62) And this is how it should be. Truth should be so easy that a child should understand it; and when you bring in lawyers and doctors and philosophers and whatnot to "help" and "clarify," you are in trouble.

This debate between Elder B. H. Roberts (the presidency of the Quorum of Seventy Apostles, i.e. a general world leader) with the Rev. Van der Donckt is therefore unusual, and this singularity is what makes this book fascinating reading.

Chapter One is a straightforward elaboration of what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes about God the Eternal Father, his Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. Chapter two contains a reply from the Rev. Van der Donckt to Elder Robert's teachings. The rejoinder not only constitutes a Catholic reply, but also serves as a response embracing the quote-unquote "traditional Christianity," inasmuch as both Protestants and Catholics (generally) subscribe to the same creeds-Nicean and Athanasian.

Chapter Three is Elder Robert's rejoinder to the Rev. Van der Donckt reply, and it is in this rejoinder you see the strength of the Church of Jesus Christ's position. For example, the creeds hold that God is unchanging, but Elder Robert's points out that Christ is God, and the Reverend's position is that God is unchanging. But Christ started out as spirit, was then born (incarnated), then was crucified, and then resurrected. So he gained, lost, and regains this body, and isn't that a change? (P.95)

Boing!

The rest of the books contains statements from church presidents Joseph Smith, Joseph F. Smith, Brigham Young and LDS apostle Orson Pratt, plus a chapter comparing religious traditions vis-à-vis Jesus Christ.

The Prophet Joseph Smith said, "By proving contraries, truth is manifest." (History of the Church 6:428) This debate proves that, and this book would be useful for review and pondering for Saints and the curious anywhere.

The type is readable, being a facsimile edition of the original book. They did a good copy of the text, and kept the same pagination so you can compare with earlier editions. But I wish they had found a better picture of Elder Roberts for the cover-I know there are better ones out there.
.
BIAS: my philosophy professor Dr. David Paulsen, who also worked on the BYU Studies edition of "The Way, The Truth, The Life", writes the introductory essay. He provides helpful information about Elder Roberts and the nature of the debate

Comprehensive philisophical support for Mormon doctrine
Two Christian theologians debate using philosophy and scripture. On of the first honest opportunities for Mormon beliefs to be challenged and met in a public forum by intellegent ministers who both understand the doctrine well. Teh first three chapters are excellent sources for study by all Christian denominations including Latter-day Saints.

Excellent
I enjoyed reading this debate on the "Mormon Doctrine of Deity." While I am ultimately not convinced by Roberts' arguments, he probably "wins" the debate because his response is a lot longer. Van der Donkt scores some points too, particularly in showing that the Mormon view of men becoming gods is without Scriptural foundation.

Excellent Intro to Gregorian Chant
I purchased this complete with a copy of "Chant" by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos.

The beauty and stillness of this is enchanting and refreshing to the mind. We truly enter the world of sacred monastary in this way.

Just beautiful! Pax Domini!

Grounding-Thought Provoking
While walking the reader through the daily life of a monk's spiritual journey, this author also inspires the lay person to listen to the "Music of Silence".

Every chapter deserves contemplation. The book gives everyone a direction to follow, as the hours of the day flow.

I found it even more inspirational to listen to Gregorian Chant while reading. I especially like "CHANT" by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo De Silos.

If you truly need a break from the hectic pace of today's life then this book is a must read.

It has become a permanent part of my library and look forward to reading more from this author.

The listened appreciation of time
The author discusses how time can be a deeply sacred part of the hours of our lives, and why an appreciation of time has been developed by the experts of the monastic orders. Nothing is as ordinary, or as sacred, as time. Far from being an infinitesimally small unit of measurement or a means of separating one event from another, time provides the means by which the still, small, silent voice of God may be heard. This is a book to take on a sabbatical journey.

Great Introduction to the Seige
This book is unlike Glantz's books on Kursk, Kharkov, or Mars in that it is a slim, larger-sized hardback with a lot of photos and color maps. He also doesn't go into a large amount of detail. This scope makes it a lot easier to understand - while I understood battles that Erickson (in "The Road to Stalingrad") describes but I was confused about. Also, it's a good primer before jumping into "The 900 Days" by Salisbury.

Col.Glantz's another excellent book
Although the Leningrad encirclement and the battle around the city was one of the biggest tragedic drama in WW II. it has been a relatively neglected subject . Mr.Salisbury's book was the only one which sheded the light on this tragic human conflict in English speaking nations.Daivd Glantz's "900 days of terror "is the one which can be equalled to Mr. Salisbury's "the 900days"
Since I read "When titians clashed" , I 've become a fan of Col.Glantz's eastern front sagas . this one is somewhat less scholarly than his previous books (in particular ,the ones published from Frank Cass pub)however, It is suprisingly readable, informative and well-balanced.col Glantz also provides the OB of Soviet forces, exhaustive notes and valuable date on casualties.there are also many unpublished pictures and wonderful maps
I've heard that Col.Glantz's next book from Kansas university press would also be the one on the Battle of Leningrad. I hope it will be published soon.

excellent book
This book sheds light on a relatively unknown (for me, anyway) part of the war on the Eastern Front. As well as the indepth text (which one is always assured of when David Glantz is the writer), two other things place this book ahead of the rest. First, the maps (one can easily lose track of what is happening when it comes to Russian place names); second, the photographs, which are mostly new and not the same old tired images. There are also exhaustive chapter notes and appendices. For anyone wanting to know what really happened at Leningrad in World War II, this book is a must. Well done Mr Glantz

College Countdown
I recommend this book for all of my students who are planning to attend college. The book is comprehensive, easy to follow, and unlike other books on college it has handy examples of sample resumes, worksheets for listing college visits and contacts, sample questions for interviews, timelines for scholarships and applications, and a sample of a thank you note for recommendations. The book is easy to follow and is based on Mrs. VonGruben's own personal experiences with her children. The college industry has become a big business and wise students and parents need to explore all options. This book will help them to know when to begin the college planning process, how to go about it, and enable students and parents to make wise decisions regarding college.

A Wonderful Life
If you like the writings of Thoreau, you will love this biography. Thoreau really comes to life and Walter Harding does a great job at aquainting us with Thoreau as if he were our neighbor or close friend. You will love all the stories of his childhood, his many excursions and his never ending desire for knowledge of nature. Also, at the end Harding dicusses Thoreaus's sexuality, which for me was a burning question throughout the book. There is no better biography out there written on Thoreau.

Good book on a brilliant man
This book looks at Thoreau's life in depth. The first few chapters try to show how Thoreaus young life shaped his older years. Always complicated both in his young and old years. This book also gives great details of Thoreaus many excursions, and the many people with whom he graced with his presence. If you in interested in Thoreau, it would be in your best interest to buy this book, it's the link between his life and his work.

An ecclectic repose of a great man.
I've alway's been in the habit of reading about the life of an author before acually reading his works and this book has covered all the bases of an incredibly intelligent man. His prose of description was in depth, and at the same time it showed views of alot of his friends in a town full of intellects. It makes you feel like you were there living Concord enjoying the scenes on Walden with thoughts from a perspective that the average person would not usually pull from any kind of methodical observation.

I would read this book again and again for a distinctive and magnanimous outlook from one the most notable Thoreau scholars.

Just what I need
In order to pursuit my interest in economics and finance, I search some Statistics texts for help. With the training in science and no background in statistics, I found this book comprehensive. It is rigorous but accessible, well organised with appropriate coverage. The examples are relevant and helpful. Moreover, the author always keeps students in mind. The only downsides are no answers to problems and no bibliography. As a whole, it is a great book.

outstanding textbook
One of the most beautifully written books in mathematical statistics with the right mix of rigor and simplicity. A must read book before jumping into econometrics.

Reader's delight
