Excellent Help!
This book takes a thorough, yet quick look at United States History. It starts out with the exploration of Europeans in the Americas, highlighting the first encounters with the Europeans and Indians. It discusses all major (and not so important) events for the reader. Its ninteen chapters ends with the Reconstruction Period. This book seems to be more of a resource for a research paper than a novel, but I was able to read it like a book by Dickens. It taught me things I didn't know and helped me to pass my History courses with A's. This book is great for educators and students alike. I really recommend this resource to all!

Demystifies Database Marketing
This is the first book I've seen that explains database marketing in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format that layouts out the theory and then shows it applied in concrete, practical ways. And the CD makes it possible to see concepts in the book palyed out in a "free-form" environment-beyond the many cases and exercises in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone with even a vague interest in the subject.

Great theory, great strategy and practice, great reference
This book gives great theoretical coverage for the classroom, great explanations and examples of strategies and tactics for the profesional and advanced student, and a great reference for the general executive. The exercises, cases, and CD give the chance to apply knowledge like nothing else around.

An excellent "starter kit" on database marketing
This is the only book I've seen that truly covers the waterfront of all the basics of database marketing--its grounding in direct marketing, the theoretical underpinnings of strategy development, and the practical tactical applications of all the core concepts. The balance of theory and practical application is just about right and--a BIG plus--the authors don't get carried away with the technology or with the more esoteric elements of statistical concepts. They explain the most important and useful concepts in remarkably easy-to-understand prose and, after one or two clear examples, move on to the next point. It's obvious that they are experienced teachers as well as seasoned practitioners. The exercises and workshops give the reader the oppportunity to play with basic concepts in real-world-type situational applications. The use of Excel for exercises is probably helpful for those with less experience (though the purists might prefer SPSS).

There are other good books around for other uses, but this is the best I've seen for someone who wants to get started in database marketing.

Worst Tom Clancy's Novel ....Period!
This is by far the worst Tom Clancy's (or franchise) novel to date. It got so much un-interesting facts / drama / nonsense, that keep me guesing.. where is the good stuff???
Even after reading it (which is a waste of time) I still don't understand the intention of the bad guys (controling the world with network chaos, etc etc??)
This novel also bears a lot of product endorsement. <...

It had the perfect premise... until something went wrong
State of War had everything except good authors. I know Clancy's career doesn't exactly revolve around the NetForce series, but he should have kept writing them instead of letting someone else. Anyway, State of War is a multi-point-of-view story. It focuses on a lawyer that loves to see the system crumble, his lap-dog who discovers the excitement of killing a man, and the usual NetForce cast. The first Netforce book had the same subplot on top of supplot basis, but it worked for the book, mostly because the author was Clancy. But in State of War, the different angles are stretched too thin. The problem is since that there are so many charachters there's a chance you'rs going to end up reading an entire chapter about someone you don't care about and want top know about another charchter who doesn't pop up for another eight chapters. The anti-reality Jay Gridley was the main character I couldn't stand to read about. There are about three chapters out of fifteen that he's in where's he's not in the middle of some virtual-reality place that doesn't exist so you just don't care. However, the key element to State of War is Junior (the lap-dog in question). Something about the extreme measures he take to fix his stupid mistakes shows the excitement the book tried to project. The problem with State is that there are too many people to keep track of and most of them you don't like. The idea was great- the 3D charachters, likable good guy, likably bad bad guy, and the list goes on. The authors' inability to keep you interested is the main problem. Would I recomend this? Sure, why not. But be prepared to skip a bunch of pages.

Not the best, but a fast read
I have to agree that this book does not live up to the expectations of anything associated with Tom Clancy. The book was a fast read for me. I agree a lot of the computer stuff is fantasy at best, with a little too much Virtual Reality [...] involved. The entire book would probably take only 30 minutes in a film. If you like the Net Force series, you will probably like this one too, but if you are a Tom Clancy fan and have never read this series, be warned that it is not written by Clancy, and that is quite eveident.
