For a good cry......
read one of the short pieces in this anthology. They are also incredibly uplifting too. A brilliant bedside companion for any dog lover.

Not a sad read but a celebratory one
Although each of the pieces in this book was inspired by the loss of a much beloved dog, this is really a book about vibrant, fully-alive dogs: family pets, fellow hunters, soul mates, and best friends. And while none of the dogs remembered so fondly here still lives, Old Dogs affirms the remarkably special place in the heart we reserve for our dogs. My own dog is sturdy in her middle-age, but reading the eulogies and odes in this moving anthology has made me appreciate more all the quirky habits I take for granted, like how she can't resist running off with one of my Reeboks when I'm shoeing up for our evening walk--the little prance she performs when I tell her, "Bring the shoe back!" Not a sad read but a celebratory one, required for every dog owner!

Makes wonderful reading.
This is a remarkable anthology of stories and poems by outstanding authors of the past, as well as more recent times. Although these moving remembrances are only of beloved dogs, the lovers of any species of pet will find identical sentiments for their own losses. Whatever kind of companion animal you had, you will find your own bereavement and healing tears reflected here, as well.

Care was taken to avoid over-sentimentality, in this assortment of loving reflections of dogs, celebrated here. These accounts are full of love, and are sometimes even funny - and we are thrust into the realization that perhaps that is the most wonderful kind of living memorials we can have for a beloved pet. Too often, we lose this perspective, while trying to keep from drowning in our own bereavement and sorrows.

Rather than being a collection of sad literary memorials Old Dogs Remembered is a joyful celebration of life with pets. This inspires healthy new points of view and adjustments to moving on into our new lives, without them.

Here we are treated to many different outlooks on how they permanently enriched the lives of their owners. Reading these heartwarming pages will broaden the understanding of each reader, concerning his/her own personal bereavement. Here, we are offered the collective wisdom of others, who reminisce on their honored pets. There is much to be shared and learned here, as well as enjoyed.

With so many different authors, one must appreciate that references and styles have changed drastically, through the ages. As an example of this, some might find the essay by the dramatist John Galsworthy to be interesting, but a bit troublesome to read. And, as with any anthology, there may be some accounts not everyone would appreciate. But all pet lovers will readily identify with the overall shared remembrances, here. This is a heartwarming collection, which can be enjoyed comfortably, in several installments.

There will be many an uplifting tear shed in its reading, and we suggest it for your reading pleasure.

A bored little boy discovers the secret to adventure.
A bored little boy discovers the secret to adventure while spending an afternoon at his grandfather's. Excellent detailed illustrations in this picture book, full of activities, creatures, and links to those on the following pages. It will be popular with the "I Spy", "Anno" and "Where's Waldo" crowd. I recommend this book for 2nd grade through the 6th grade, teachers, and for parents to read with their children.

A Pleasure to look at the illustrations over and over again.
This is a book we have never grown tired of as one can always seeing something new in the incredible illustrations. I hope that we will see more of this artist in the near future. Daniel Page Schallau is very gifted as well as imaginative!

Down to earth story
It is rare to read an autobiography of a successful person involved in a technical field such as surgery and come away enriched by this humane, unselfish presentation offered by Dr. James D. Hardy. His down to earth story of how to balance family, politics, and medicine and still be a gentleman could only happen in the South. This book should be required reading for every pre-med student and should be kept as a bible for those who choose surgery for their calling.

Required reading for a cutting edge
The Academic Surgeon should be required reading for any premed or med student. Because of the insight it gives to an exciting period of medical history, surgeons certainly and other doctors and those in medical fields will find it excellent reading. The general reading public will also be fascinated by a look into the life of this pioneer in transplant surgery who excelled as a doctor, surgeon, teacher, administrator, and devoted family man.

A Great Read
Don't let the title throw you off. The Academic Surgeon makes a great read for anyone both doctors and lay alike. This book reads well and makes the life of a pioneer in surgery come to life.

A Great Storyteller
Mario Benedetti, a Uruguayan writer, is well known in South America and Mexico. This is one of his rare collections available in English. This story collection presents a perspective not often used by US writers: that underlying paranoia, cycnicism, fatalism that anyone who has lived through the dictators and hyperinflation and tragic history of South America and Central America is well acquainted with. With recent events, many who have never had to live in fear are now faced with the kinds of dark powers that many others in our world have known for years. Notwithstanding the darker tone and sadness he evokes, the writing is superb and highly recommended.

REVIEW QUOTES
"Benedetti is Uruguay's most important current writer."--Multicultural Review

"This superb collection...brings together tales of urban romance and political strife from the beloved Uruguayan writer. The fictions, most only a few pages long, are masterful in form, at once succinct and evocative. Many of the early tales...are reminiscent of Kafka-though with none of the weighty mood. Benedetti's language is light and playful..., full of humorous generosity to the reader." --Review of Contemporary Fiction

"What remains...is the singular and surprising nature of Benedetti's stories." --The New York Times Book Review

One of the finest living writers blends irony, compassion.
Uruguayan author Mario Benedetti, one of the most prolific and respected Latin American writers, is little known in the U.S.A. Of 50 years worth of fiction, plays and essays, the two novels published here are long out of print. This collection of 27 short stories should go a long way to bringing him the larger English-speaking audience he so merits.

Benedetti's early work (1940s and 50s) was rooted in and reflective of the middle class milieu of Montevideo. Like all successful regionalists, his keen eye and ear for local ideosyncracy could be bitingly on- target, while transcending the specific to express universal themes. The upheavals of the 1960s added a political focus that was sharpened when he was exiled (and his work banned) as a result of Uruguay's 1973 coup. His writings on political repression and on expatriate life display the same combination of dry irony and warm compassion as his earlier work; while themes change, there is a continuity of artistic vision.

Having enjoyed Benedetti in Spanish, I can recommend this collection. It offers a good cross-section, ranging from 1949 to 1987. I paid particular attention to translation on three of my favorites: "The Budget," a wickedly funny sendup of stultified bureaucracy; "Requiem Over Tea," a beautiful, sad story as told by a 13 year old; "Just Kidding," the chilling tale of a joke gone awry in the era of wiretaps and detention. Throughout, the author's original rythms, his strong sense of narrative voice, and distinctive use of vernacular came across very well.

New Testament Revelations of Jesus of Nazareth

I LOVE THIS BOOK ... because ...
I LOVE THIS BOOK ... because it conveys many interesting truths about the earth life of Jesus of Nazareth, it corrects mistakes of the present bible and also informs the reader of Jesus` actual mission - to let us know about our Heavenly Father`s never failing and always uplifting Love for his children, HIS DIVINE LOVE.

I LOVE THIS BOOK ... because it contains many interesting messages, received through automatic writing and signed by the highest of celestial angels including the apostles John and Paul and Luke as well as many others, above all, of course, messages signed by Jesus himself.

I LOVE THIS BOOK ... because, besides telling me alot about Jesus and God`s Love for us, it also includes messages dealing with the questions of how we - as simple human beings - can finally become angels, what`s the use of personal soulful prayer and how spiritual healing works.

I can only recommend this book.

A must read for any serious seeker/student of Truth
New Testament Revelations of Jesus of Nazareth are so revolutionary in scope as to be dangerous to the orthodox mindset. I was astounded at how logical and scientific the "true story" as presented by those who supposedly were there ,..came across. But most astonishing of all is the level of "soul" information being communicated by these Angelic spirits. If the teachings presented in this wonderful book ever reach the world at large...everything will change for the better ..forever. A must read! Rev. Jimmy Walsh

Best text for undergraduates on Linear Algebra
It provides an excellent approach to Linear Algebra for self-pacing. Different from other linear algebra books, it's well organized and teaches how and why the ideas come from by providing many interesting examples.

It isn't only the classics, but the essential reference for related fields in my bookshelf.
