Sharing the Struggle of Finding Faith in God
This is the second volume in the Desert Roses series. Ashley Reynolds was a "Harvey Girl," working in a Harvey's restaurant in Arizona. She lived with her grandfather and little daughter. She enjoyed her work and was regarded as one of Harvey's best. Her husband had been killed in WWI. She felt she could never find anyone who would measure up to the man she lost. Her daughter met an architect working on a Harvey project who was willing to share his interest in architecture with the little girl. Natalie encouraged this friendship. About the same time Ashley's grandfather was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer.

Throughout the story another struggle was raging - Grandfather and Natalie felt a firm faith in God but Ashley had questions which kept her from faith and church. How could God take her husband as he did? How could God let her grandfather have cancer? The mystery of the bearded architect was solved in an interesting and surprising way. This is a really good story and it shows a small section of history in the west as the Great Depression was spreading over the country. It also shares the struggle several people in the story experienced in finding faith in God.

Winslow, AZ holds both security and a shock.
Tracie Peterson has captured the era just before the beginning of the great depression, circa 1930. A young widowed mom is working - supporting her 10 yr. old daughter while sharing a home with a grandfather who is estranged from the rest of his family.

When hurt and bitterness have built up a wall, it is very unlikely that a newcomer to town, a construction worker, will have a chance to court her, even though her daughter is playing matchmaker.

The central figure is a young, independent but sad woman who has decided that fate and God have chosen her lot of single mom. In spite of the faith of both her daugher and her grandfather, she will not attend church or believe. Her family has turned their backs on her, never even knowing that she has a child, so she determines to be single, sad and alone. Her daughter is determined to change all that.

Lies, deception, danger and tremendous intrigue are played out it this second book of Peterson's "Desert Roses" series.

Including lots of other people and circumstances, Tracie builds a tremendous plot that will hold a reader spellbound and unable to lay the book down.

The BEST book out there so far!
I was just diagnosed this year with lupus and let me tell you, I was reading everything I could on lupus and when I ordered this book and read it in less than 1 day I felt so much better about my disease because this book helps you understand it, it is clear and concise. I feel after reading this book that I have at least better understanding and that is what we all need. I have passed the book onto my family members to read as well. VERY informative book.

The Bible of LUPUS
When I was first disgnoised with Lupus I read everything that I could find. This book is the one that helped me to understand my illness. The Lupus Book answers all of your questions you may have about Lupus. It also help you to understand what you are going through now and what to look for in the future. It tells you about the test that you will be having and explain them to you as well. If you have gained weight(which most of us have)it will show you how to catulate your weight. I enjoyed this book and I am going to buy it so I can referre back to it when I have complications. At the present time I go to the library. It also has helped me to start writing my own book. I am looking for someone to read and publish my book. Is there anyway you may be able to help me? Please e-mail me mgoodwyn@erols.com Mary B. Goodwyn

The most comprehensive lupus book available
The Lupus Book offers detailed information about lupus that is helpful for the newly diagnosed patient or, like my mother, for a lupus survivor of more than 20 years. It has become a "lupus Bible" for my mother and me, even after all the books we've read about lupus over the last 25 years. The book includes example anecdotes, useful information on treatments, and VITAL clinical information for each body system involved. Another Amazon.com customer recommended this book, and I am so grateful--we discovered a life-saving diagnostic procedure through this book that my mother's doctors had not intended to run. If you think you're getting the best care possible for your lupus, read this book and be certain of it. I can't recommend this book highly enough--it is quite literally life-preserving information for the chronically ill lupus patient.

A wondeful book.
I first discoverd the world of Pern in sixth grade, having to go it the comuter lab and read excerpts(?) from the book Dragonsong. I loved Dragonsong when i read it in the computer lab, however I was extremely dissapointed until about 100 pages and I loved the book. I expecially fell in love with Dragonfilght, I couldn't put it down! It's been my favorite book since. Lessa is such a great character, the story of dragons and firelizards builds up and makes sense. i love F'lar and F'nor, and Jaxom. Ramoth and Lessa love eact other so muchis so beautiful. Its like it could really happen. Dragons being of only certain colors, how the where breed it amazing. I highley reccommed this book and the series(I finshed All the Weyrs of Pern a couple days ago). Anne McCaffery has a style of writing that makes you love the characters.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
... I started out with thte harperhall trilogy and i found that AMAZING! Her style is just so good, she keeps the chapters flowing nicely into each other. And romance laced with the excitement! I spent the whole day reading Dragonsong! Well, I got hooked!

I had final exams and couldn't read as much but I finished the rest of the HarperHall trilogy right after. I started the dragonriders of pern series and Dragonflight was just plain good!

The book is about Lessa who had to hide and pretend to be a drudge when her family was murdered by Fax, a ambitious man who controlled seven holds. She came out of hiding to announce her birthright to Ruatha Hold. But she met F'lar who told her she could be a dragonrider. Thus begins a plot of romance (with F'lar of course!) and saving all of Pern. Yes, I love romance!

I have finished the next two books, Dragonquest and The White Dragon. They too are marvelous books and I plan to get those three for Christmas. They too are great with of romance (F'nor and Brekke, Jaxom and Sharra) and excitement.I have a goal to finish the rest of the Dragonriders trilogy.

I never really had a favorite author but now I can for certain say that Anne McCaffery is my favorite author! But I still don't have a favorite book yet because..... There's too many Dragonrider of Pern books to pick from!

I really hope more people will read this book...

Dragonflight
I only got acquainted with Anne McCaffrey this year, I am affraid. My first book by this author wasn't even related in any way with the Chronicles of Pern but it introduced me to an author who has now become one of my favorites. I had heard of these series of books and heard people talking of them. Living in Portugal as I do, you cannot find books as well as you can in the United States or in England, for example, and I had to read this series in English, which I did not mind at all. But it took a lot of searching...

The fact is, it was worth it. In no time I had become an addict to this author's works and when I first read Dragonflight, I was hooked on the marvellous world Pern was and the amazing relationship between man and dragon, a relationship based on love and trust... and necessity. This is an amazing introduction to a world and a society brought to us by the imaginative mind of Anne McCaffrey.

Lessa is of the Ruatha Blood and when her Hold is conquered by the greedy High Reaches Holder Fax, she sweares vengeance. Working as a drudge, plotting the death of Fax, with a watch wher as her only friend, she grows up for ten Turns with the thought of regaining her Hold from Fax's hands. During the Dragonriders of Pern Search, she sees the opportunity to get rid, once and for all, of Fax. But instead of becoming Holder of Ruatha, she is given the choice of becoming Weyrwoman in the only Weyr left. The Dragonmen of Pern are sworn to fight Thread, the threat which plagues the wonderful world of Pern, a threat long forgotten as it has not returned. But the pass of the Red Star promises the return of the Thread, even if only F'lar, rider of Bronze Mnementh, believes the time has come. In the Weyr a last Golden Egg of a Queen lies, awaiting hatching, when Impression will be made (the total empathic connection between man and dragon), awaiting a Weyrwoman to take the place of the old and a new Queen to reborn the Dragonrider's of Pern who will need all their courage and strength to fight for the future of their world. Will Lessa and F'lar succeed when the Dragonriders have fallen into disgrace to the eyes of the Holders? When a threat is no longer perceived as existent, how can one hope to protect themselves? When hope is lost... there is a spark that will brighten and bring hope back... a spark in the hands of the Dragonriders of Pern...

I highly recommend this book, the first of a worldwilde cult of the amazing chronicles of the Dragonriders of Pern.

Entering Tenebrea leaves you wanting more!!
Wow is the first word out of my mouth when I finished this first book of the trilogy!! I couldn't put it down! I immediately wanted the story to continue so I could see what happens next!! I read the entire book in one day!! I was lucky enough to buy the book when Roxann was signing them at a convention. If you like military and sci-fi stuff, you will love this one!! Bravo to both Roxann and Daniel for such an entertaining and thought-provoking piece of work!! Can't wait for the next installment coming out soon!!

Couldn't put it down!
When Andrea Flores's husband and daughter are killed in a terrorist attack, she is taken aboard the Jod starship Tyker to heal and recuperate. The Tyker's captain, K'Rin, who witnessed the aftermath of her family's murder, gives her the opportunity to join his elite and mysterious house guard, the Tenebrea. Trained as an assassin, Andrea finds herself on a special mission to the planet Cor, where she must gather information about a rumor of NewGen clones that are supposedly being grown for war. What Andrea seeks is vengeance, but her plan is slightly sidetracked in a new search for answers, and what she ends up getting involved in is something neither she, not the Jod, could have imagined.

This book was fabulous! I really didn't know what to expect, since the back cover is kind of vague, but what a wonderful surprise it was to find myself immersed in a truly gripping story of heartbreak, betrayal, acceptance, friendship, love, vengeance, secrets, lies, and loyalty. There are also some key points of humor, and plenty of tense and exciting action. Andrea's story is not as cut and dry as you might imagine in the beginning, and the plot twists and secrets that are revealed along the way make for a wonderful page-turner that teases the mind and leaves you begging for more.

The world building was wonderful, and the characters were rich and multidimensional. There were times when I really wondered, who were the good guys and who were the bad guys? ... and I'm still wondering about some of them, even at the end of the second book (Tenebrea's Hope), which was just as amazing as the first. The plot is woven together with such expertise that I was doomed to read the entire book in one sitting, never once having to skim over a dull spot ... and that is very rare indeed. I highly, highly recommend this book!

Awesome, action-packed Space Opera!! Highly recommended!

Over a dozen great books in one volume.
Ray Daniels' book is actually several books in one volume.

In part one aspects of brewing technique are covered with chapters on hitting target gravity, hop selection and utilization, malt profiles, and several other useful technical subjects.

In part two we are treated to 14 mini style books. History, techniques, and commercial examples relating to the styles are presented. Accompanying this information is Ray's unique presentation of the profiles of ingredients used in commercial and winning homebrew recipes. If you've ever asked "What really goes into a _____?" This is the place to look. Chapters also have sidebars that summarize the contents -- like the box at the end of each chapter that lists tips for successful brewing of the beer style.

This is a wonderful book I can't imagine not owning.

An essential resource
For anyone who has brewed at least one batch, this is a must-have book. You will learn more from reading this book, than from brewing a hundred more batches. Read Papazin, then graduate to this. You will learn to hit target gravities, target IBU's, and how to balance them against each other. Styles are broken down into easily (for the most part) reproducible processes and techniques, allowing you to formulate your own recipe within the style, not copy someone else's. I never brew a batch without reading up on the particular style in this book first. Best book out there on beer. Bar none.

The best recipe formulation book I have seen
First, let me say what this book is not. It is not a recipe book, or a book which describes the techniques for brewing beer. In other words, it is not for beginners.
After following recipes for a number of batches of beer, it was time to learn how to create my own recipes. The purpose of this book is to do just that; come up with your own recipes. The first part of the book tells the reader how to compute the grain bill, the hop bill and how to hit original gravity. It also contains information on beer color, yeast and water. I used this section to make the computations for my first original recipe. This, in turn, gave me the incentive to buy a brewing software package which I now use in conjunction with the second part of the book.
The second part describes beer styles and what ingredients go into each style described. There is a chart for each style which gives information on ingredients used in beers which made it to the second round of the NHC. I found some of the charts in this part somewhat confusing and there are a few references in the text to wrong charts. However, as a result of this book, I have started to formulate my own recipes with a lot of success.

Soldier's Trilogy
I love this book/trilogy. It's probably my favorite book I've read so far. I would recommend this book to people whom in the past were put off by older literature. This book, although set in the early 20th century, seems fresh and alive. You may have difficulty at first with some of the more experimental sections, like "The Camera Eye", but I wouldn't let that discourage myself from recommending this book. Those sections tend to be rather on the short side anyway. I wish Dos Passos was more thought of today than he is, because he's an excellent writer. I often couldn't believe how many pages I had read in a session, as I got lost in the book completely. Read this book!

WONDERFUL!
This is the true American Epic.

Dos Passos wrote this trilogy almost as a documentary. It is a history lesson, with newspaper articles, biographical sketches, beautiful train of thought prose poems, and, in the midst of it all, fictional but brutally realistic characters who each experience the times through a unique set of eyes.

Since I have read this book it has become one of my favorites, and there are few titles with more meaning to me than _U.S.A_.

THE GREAT AMERICAN TRILOGY
As an author of a debut novel in its initial release, I find myself amazed by these three books by John Dos Passos. 42nd PARALLEL, 1919, and BIG MONEY tell the tale of the growth of America into the greatest and most powerful nation in the history of the world. Mr. Dos Passos pulls out all the stops with experimental techniques as well as traditional story telling. Each time I read one of these books in this trilogy, I realize what a masterful writer Mr. Dos Passos was. These are his best works. No question about it. They may be the best three novels, taken as a trilogy, ever written by an American.

Excellent, covers everything,
This book is a wealth of information. I bought it specifically for the chapter on installing Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 on Solaris. It was excellent. In addition, the chapters on the graphical interface and the security policy are comprehensive and very well written. Great coverage of NAT, OPSEC, and SAM. If you are using CheckPoint, pick it up.

Great Book
This book is very thorough and helpful for anyone who wants to use the Check Point product line. I recommend this book as it is detailed and info packed. The appendix written by Dan Kaminski who is world renowned in his security work is also a great read. This book is also a great prep for the CCSA NG exam 156-210. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn how to configure and use Check Point as well as to get more information on security in general. Good Stuff!

Excellent Reference- Can use for exam as well
I bought this to use as a reference and to supplement my training for the NG exam- I just returned from taking my exam and although this book is not a study guide by name, it does cover the majority of information you need to know for the CCSA and CCSE NG exams, and it covers the information really well. I personally tend to throw away my study guides when I'm done with them as they tend to cover the material needed to pass the exam and no more- this book is a reference book, and covers the material needed for the exam and more. A keeper!
