Muhammad Ali: The World's Champion
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (2001)
Author: John Tessitore
Amazon base price: $18.40
Average review score:

My Hero
Muhammad Ali, The World's Champion, is about the professional boxer who accomplished many goals in his boxing career. He started boxing at a young age and by the time he was done with high school he went professional. Muhammad won three world championships and he was the greatest boxer of his time. I think the author, John Tessitore, did a good job on this book because he covered everything from when Ali was a child to his retirement.

This was enjoyable and easy to read. It started with his childhood, then moved on to his career, and finished with his retirement. The book is very well organized as it follows a timeline of his life. The way which the author describes Ali's rise to the top, is the strongest part of the book. The descriptions were clear and easy to relate to. The author talked more about Ali's success and not enough about the struggles that got him to the top.

I gave this book five stars because it is informative and entertaining. I would recommend it to others because it gave a thorough overview of who Ali really is. I believe that the message the author is trying to send is that if you work hard you can accomplish your goals. It is in my opinion that this is an important message to give to readers. I believe that the author was successful in getting his message across to the readers.

An outstanding read about an outstanding human being
Mr. Tessitore displays a writing talent that makes you feel as though you are sitting next to him as he interestingly relates Ali's story. A genuine craftsman and wordsmith, the author creates a memorable look at Ali that you will want to revisit and enjoy again.

a true page turner
This young author does a magnificent job to portray one of the greatest athletes of our time. If you are an avid Ali fan, or just looking for an outstanding read, check out this gem. I hope the author keeps his works coming!!!

Our Philosophy

A Confident Work on Islamic Philosophy
Baqir Sadr has brilliantly written this book as an introductory text for university level students. The language is very accessible. Ideas and arguments presented are clear, well organized, and coherent. Above all, Baqir Sadr has not let students go baffled at any point while discussing ancient, medieval, and the modern philosophical doctrines.

Part one contains discussion on Theory of Knowledge; on sources and scope of Knowledge. The author critically examines the different philosophical doctrines including the ancient, rational, empirical, and marxist ones, and presents the Islamic philosophical doctrine on Knowledge that as I understood can be characterized as rational but is different from other rational doctrines (for example, from that of Descartes'). The author in part two moves on to expound the realist world view advanced by Islamic philosophers and contrasts it with others including the idealist, empiricist, relativists, and marxist ones.

Baqir Sadr, surely a great Islamic scholar of this century, intended this book as first of a series that remained incomplete due to his sad martyrdom by the ruthless ruler of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. The second of this series is "Our Economy", another original work this time on Islamic economy. Much information on Sadr's biography, his struggle, and his publications is available on net.

Highly Reliable and thought provoking
This book is one of the most relaible and readable book on the philosophy of Knowledge. Although it donot explain Islamic point of view regarding philosophy of Knowledge but it critisize the western and Marxist views and provides a foundation for more thinking and research. Readers who are able to read persian or Arabic must read "principles of Philosophy and Realism" by Ayattollah Mutahhary to get the Islamic view regarding the philosophy of Knowledge.

you must read it !
i have read this book twice, also in original language (Arabic), this book and our economie are the best books of the auther that i ever read! if someone want a discussion about this book or others, you can join by email, enjoy it, ahmed!

Worthy to be made into a movie!
A fine biographic literary of perhaps the most influential man that ever graced this earth.

The momentum hardly flags and spuns the reader to read on- a great story told in an innovative novel-like fashion. Will appeal massively to many newcomers and to those who prefers a simple yet accurate biopic of the prophet all muslims loved dearly.

Since The Message (starring Anthony McQueen) is decades-old, I would strongly recommend to film-makers to prop up and read this book and construct an epic motion picture of Muhammad. This book is an ideal companion to their film-efforts.

Comments, anyone?

Gripping!!!
This book is very gripping!!! I enjoyed it a lot. It feels like you are right there. It is a book you don't want to put down once you've started. I've read Karen Armstrong's version and it seems very slow, and she makes the Prophet (mpbh) seem like a womanizer and a money hungry man.
Emerick catches the essence of the Prophet's (mpbh) time and makes it seem like he actually knew him. This is definately a must read! It is a very good book to have in one's collection and especially if you want the correct story about the Prophet's (mpbh) life and how Islam came to be!

A very detailed and gripping read
What a great bio! I've read Karen Armstrong and Martin Lings and this one beats both hands down. The author makes you feel as you're right there, seeing all the action. Lings bogs you down with way too much detail and Armstrong's writing is dry. This one is definately the best bio of this often misunderstood figure.

"GIFTED" I couldn't put the book down until I was finish.
I was overwhelmed by the emotional experience that this poet shares with his readers. He invites you into his deepest emotions and thoughts, allowing the reader to embrace each poem as a work of art. Each one revealing more and more about it's creator. Some are strong and forceful and jump out and attack you, while others are soft and delicate and seem to gently kiss you. The poet has been blessed with a unique talent and ability that few possess. Thank you for sharing this with us. I highly recommend this to those who love poetry in it's truest form.

PS to the author:" I Just Need A Minute" was just what I needed.

This book unlocked my spirit and touched my soul.
I think it's true that the Creator lives within each of our souls. Sometimes we ignore the voice and need a little push to reach our inner being. From Player 2 Poet helped me to understand the importance of serving the Creator and being true to "self." The truth is not always pretty and it doesn't always come packaged the way we want it - but this book shows that for this brother - the truth did come. Truth about life, love and reality. As you read the book, imagine a situation in your life that relates to each piece and I promise you that the doors of your spirit will slowly open. Then once the doors are fully opened and you see the light - read the book again and mask in the glow of acceptance and love. If you want a good cry, a good laugh, a jolt of reality and a heart-warming experience; this is the book for you!

"Enthralling"
From Player 2 Poet is a ravishing piece of work. Explore a journey of intensified thoughts through a tunnel of spiritual insight back to reality.

Tiy-E you are really doing a spectacular job!!!!!!!

journalistic excellence.
first of all i cannot commend Mukhtar enough for this great piece of work that he has put together in book form. it is definately an instructional treaties on how to organize and structure progress that can be measured. his writing style and scholarship is par-excellence. i encourage him to continue to evolve his abilities and give us many more books that can add to the great standard that he has set with this book.im an avid reader and i would put this book at the very top in terms of being motovational, instructional, and very informative. may Allah bless Mukhtar and his family for a great contribution to the muslim community in general and the muslim american society in particular. thanks. Imam.

Must Reading!
Mukhtar Muhammed has done an excellent job in providing an analysis of organizational and leadership development issues within the Islamic context.

I appreciate his look at the transformational leadership that Muslim Americans experienced from 1975 to the present. His assessment of the decentralization that took place helped me understand more of what I experienced as a second generation Muslim who grew up in the Nation of Islam and later Orthodox Islam.

I also believe Prophet Mohammed's (SAW) model for business and strategic planning was well documented. I use this book as one of my main business guides as I work through organizational change at work, in the masjid, and the community at large.

Genesis of New American Leadership
Mukhtar Muhammad has written an insightful book on leadership that should interest all americans this day and time. This book is excellent reading for anyone seeking knowledge of Al-Islam and the proper leadership and management for the individual, the family, and the community.

Islam's Climate for Business Success
This a very good book for anyone aspiring to be in business or
someone already in business. The book discusses Business from an Islamic perspective, however it uses principles that can be applied by anyone. It directly addresses the need to keep our Creator first and foremost, but not to forget that we must make
a living, we must do Business. Imam Mohammad addresses the need to understand yourself in order to do Business.Whether a student or in Corporate America this book, if applied will help improve your life. My only complaint is the binding could be better but I would give that up anyday for the kowledge on the pages...

IMAM W.D.MOHAMMED A GREAT WRITER AND ISLAMIC SCHOLAR.
THIS BOOKS CONTENT SHOWS THAT IMAM W.D.MOHAMMED, MUSLIM AMERICAN SPOKESMAN FOR HUMAN SALVATION IS BY FAR AN ISLAMIC SCHOLAR,AND IS THE MOST POWERFUL SOCIO-RELIGIOUS INTELLECTS OF OUR TIME.THIS BOOK HAS HAD A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON ME AND THE MANY AMERICANS AND MUSLIMS EVERYWHERE TO SEE AL-ISLAM PROPERLY AND CLEARLY. THE IMAM MADE THE POINT,STRESSED IN THE HOLY QURAN AND THE LIFE OF PROPHET MOHAMMED,(PBUH) THAT THE PURPOSE OF BUSINESS IS NOT JUST TO MAKE A PROFIT,BUT TO SERVE G'D AND HUMANITY.

The conduct of business with God consciousness
The Imam shows that the purpose of business is not just to make a profit, but to serve God and the community. The proper acquisition of wealth and the proper conduct of business are acts of worship. We should seek with the means that God has made allowable to us our home of the Hereafter, but do not neglect our share of the present world. Business and nonbusiness students and nonstudents should read this book.

Stephen Fry's 2nd Novel Beats the Sophomore Slump
Stephen Fry's first book, THE LIAR, was a tour-de-force, meaning, mostly, that you really had to work to figure out what the hell was actually happening. With THE HIPPOPOTAMUS, he eschews the trickery and concentrates on terrific characters and plotting. I think he must have taken a great deal of satisfaction in building his book around a Very Big Surprise midway through-- even though you *know* a V.B.S. is coming, and even though you can probably guess the general shape of the V.B.S., I don't think *anybody* reading this book for the first time can fail to be shocked/horrified/amused/delighted/amazed when he/she finds out what that V.B.S. actually *is*. Up to that point, the book sort of meanders pleasantly, but from then on, it hits high speed, bouncing between 1st and 3rd person narrators, the occasional RASHOMON-ing of scenes through different viewpoints, and a now-you-see-it, now-you-don't ending that ranks with the best mystery writers-- pretty good for a book that isn't a mystery! For those who don't know, Fry is a wildly talented comic actor (JEEVES & WOOSTER, BLACK ADDER); he's one of those annoying Englishmen who apparently does *everything* well. If he keeps turning out novels like this one, I'm prepared to forgive him

Fry's razor-sharp wit cuts through again
'Hippopotamus' is Stephen Fry's second (and best) novel. As usual, Fry's acerbic wit and Oscar Wilde / Noel Coward pomposity come racing to the fore. Hippopotamus is one of those rare books that both amuse AND make you admire the writer for his very considerable abilities. Stephen Fry is a supreme raconteur, author, actor and television personality, and he is not shy in using his whole arsenal of skills to keep you reading.

Ted Wallace, the main character, is a sixty-six year old 'unregenerate snob' with a penchant for 'a drop of the hard stuff'. Maybe this is how the author sees himself in years to come. If so, Stephen Fry will be just as amusing in his latter years as he has been to date.

You should buy this book at the first opportunity. You will not regret it.

Other People's Poetry, or The Idiot's Guide to Smut?
If you're considering the purchase of this novel because of its author's portrayal of Jeeves in Masterpiece Theater's productions of Jeeves and Wooster, be warned! You may wish to reconsider. Whereas Stephen Fry's writing style may pay homage to the late great P.G. Wodehouse in its verbal effluence, his chosen main character, Ted, or Tedward as one character calls him, is a far, far cry from the irreproachable and virtually infallible "gentleman's personal gentleman" that was Jeeves. He is a grumpy, flatulent ex-poet who has become disillusioned with . . . well, just about everything really. One is left wondering how much Mr. Fry shares this man's opinions for they are at once outrageously cynical, overtly snobbish and-at least in the case of his diagnosis of male sexuality-devastatingly accurate. Such questions are of course ultimately futile and meaningless but one can't help wondering. To be honest, however, few of us couldn't find at least a little of ourselves in this crotchety old fart. And I suppose that's what makes him ultimately so endearing.

In short, this is a dirty, smutty book chock full of outrageous social faux pas, cynicism, sacrilege, irreverence, vulgarity and crudeness . . . and I enjoyed it very much. It's extremely well written, extremely frank in its discussion of human sexuality and the evils of opulent interior design, and above all extremely British.

So, if you're after the genteel machinations of the upper class twits of yesteryear, stick with the source and pull out that trusty old copy of Jeeves and Wooster. If, on the other hand, you're after a healthy dose of modern English outrageousness, this would be a good bet. Pour yourself a glass of whisky and get ready to read the juicy bits to whoever's close by, because you'll be hearing a lot of, "What? What was it this time?" from them. Oh, yes, it's also good for the complexion. I read it on my last visit to the seaside and couldn't stop reading long enough to get into my swimwear. The sun never touched my pearly white skin. Saved a bundle on sunscreen, too.
