Wanna play like Elvin Jones? Here's how...
Another great book from John Riley. This is of course more challenging than "The Art of Bop Drumming", which should be read and studied thoroughly before digging into this one. The included CD is very useful. The post bop drumming is studied in a logical sequence, with in depth analysis of timekeeping and solo examples from the most important drummers.

Useful book for drummers
I've often enjoyed John Riley's columns in Modern Drummer magazine. He really knows how to present information in an accessible way. The charts are easy to read and the accompanying c.d. is excellent. A must for the aspiring jazz drummer.

Excellent Introduction to the HP48G/GX
This book is a well-written and gentle step-by-step introduction to using and programming the HP48G/GX. Highly recommended as a prelude to the much dryer official HP manuals.

Quickly Getting Up to Speed on the HP 48G
The HP 48G user's manual is approximately 3 inches thick and I don't know about you, but I need something that will get me quickly up to speed in using a programmable calculator that has more than 2500+ functions. The book is easy and quick reading while at the same time giving you little insights and tips to using the HP 48G effectively. I'll probably have to read a few sections of the book again to reinforce my knowledge for specific areas. I'll refer to the HP 48G's User's Manual as needed when looking up something specific.
Also, the publisher (GrapeVine Press) has a 60 day "unconditional money back garantee" if not completely satisfied. I also ended up buying their HP 48G Graphics Programming book as well. The money was well spent. I highly recommend this book.

Treasure of Information
This collection of works by the various authors offers the listener an opportunity to have an easily accessed master mind group in the field of human growth. My morning commute's blahs are a thing of the past when I plug in my tapes and visit with the likes of Jack Canfield, Marianne Williams and the others. Each offers a conversational monologue which address basic human perceptions and attitudes. I have listened to all the tapes at least twice and will listen to them again and again. Whether at home or on the road, each tape is a treasure of information which offers the listener tools to reshape basic views of life. These tapes are well worth the value. They are like good traveling companions. You will welcome their presence, and delight in their gifts. I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Features the pioneer photography of Julia E. Tuell
Women and Warriors of the Plains features the pioneer photography of Julia E. Tuell, whose black and white photos documented Native American women's lives and times. The Tuells lived among the Sioux from 1912 to 1929, with Julia using her photography to document their rapidly-changing way of life. Her photos are both artistic and historically important documents of early Sioux women's lives.

An outstanding contribution to Native American studies.
An excellent pick, Dan Aadland's Women And Warriors Of The Plains provides a review of the early photography of Julia Tuell, whose black and white portraits of Native American women are accompanied by fine accounts of life with the Northern Cheyenne and others.

Review of Dear Mr. Blueberry
I enjoyed the picture book Dear Mr. Blueberry greatly. It describes well how a little girl feels when someone tells her that what she says she saw cannot be real. It is a pretty sad book that is made up of letters a little girl, Emily, writes to her teacher, Mr. Blueberry, about a whale she finds in her pond. I will not tell you the conclusion because it is only good when you read the book. I reccomend this book to people of all ages. Even though it is a kids' book you can get something out of it every time you read it.

Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary
Do you like to write letters? If you do you should read Dear Mr. Blueberry by Simon James. This is a great story about a little girl named Emily that writes letters back and forth with her teacher. This book has super pictures and some great information about whales. Well, we don't want to give away the story so you'll have to read it and find out what happens! We would recommend this book to someone who likes to write letters and wants some cool information about whales.

Review by Brian...
I liked Dear Mr Blueberry because it was funny and and because a girl is asking her teacher for information about whales. They send letters to each other. Emily finds out that a whale lives in her pond and feeds it bread and cornflakes. She named the whale Arthur. Her teacher tries to convince her that there is not a whale in her pond. I like this book. This is one of my favorite books. I like the pictures a lot. I give this book five stars.

Big Fat Liar Review
Big Fat Liar is a movie that teaches values. The theme of the movie is, "Don't lie because it can get you into trouble!" This book is believable because the main chacters are just like normal kids. They have this talent that they can change their voices like anyone! Well most people can do that but nto everyone. Their names are Jason and Kaylee. The setting of this story takes place in a small town in California and Los Angeles. I think the plot of this story was interesting because it was funny. Big Fat Liar held my interest. The actors did a good job of making their characters seem believable. I highly recommend this book!!! I liked the book better than the movie because it describes what they are thinking better.

More than one note Samba.
I am not a drumset player (Yet !) but I'm interested in the rhythms of the world and Brazilian Rhythms are Fantastic, this book is quite good, it has sections on Samba, Bossa Nova, Baiao, Maracatu, Marca and Frevo, and patterns in odd meters.

The book starts with a short introduction on Brazilian music and then explaines the traditional Rhythms and the traditional Brazilian instruments and then demonstrates how to apply those rhythms to the drumset, the book comes with two C.D's which demonstrated most of the musical samples in the book.

Great book for drumset players and ALSO for those who want to understand Brazilian Rhythms.

Also recomended are Airto Moreiras great Videos, C,D's and books, and see also Brazilian Percussion Manual by Daniel Sabanovich and Brazilan Music Workshop by Antonio Adolfo.

For other types of rhythms check out these authors, Alan Dworsky, Reinhart Flatichler, Sule Greg Vilson, Yaya Diallo, Peter Magadini, Robert Starer and Gary Hess.
