Alchemy of Time Frozen, Nature Revealed
Stephen Dalton is a master artist and naturalist of our time. His work produces living treasures of the beauty and wonder of life on Earth, and highlights the need to preserve nature against the destructiveness of human endeavours.

Dalton forces the viewer to stop in time with the subject photographed and see a moment as it can never be seen.

While there is joy and wonder is looking at Dalton's amazing photographs, there is also sadness in knowing that so many of these incredible creatures are going extinct.

Must-have, magnificent photos, fascinating facts
This is absolutely a must-have coffee table book for any nature lover. It is filled with spectacular color photos on glossy paper so clear & vibrant they pop off the page. Dalton's high-speed photography is pure genius.

Bats, birds, ladybugs, butterflies, dragonflies, bees & a vast array of other animals are captured in mid flight. The several frames of a chameleon lashing out its tongue to capture its prey are captivating.

You also get to see numerous frogs & mice as they rest, swim, eat, climb plants, & leap through the air. A few plants such as moss, fungus, liverworts, sedge & an oak seeding are also shown up close.

Captions for each creature give fascinating information on their daily lives, eating habits, & special abilities. Get this book, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Three brillant stories
Amos Oz tells us 3 simple stories where there is a slight connection, a little boy. That in fact isn't the most important thing in all this. The fact that the first history tell us about the start of the life of a Jew family in Jerusalem in the 40s, the second the beginning of the first signs, very slight, of resistance to the English occupation and the third a story of a sick young man and the organization of the neighbors to the eminent put out of the British. The official life of Israel seems to be their as the little distraction like commercial on the TV but is that that flows all the stories on this three novels

israeli statehood
This is a series of three stories, all of which share the same time period and location, Jerusalem just prior to the departure of the British in 1948. The characters all encompass the same sense of destiny, fear and the unknown surrounding the birth of the tiny new nation, Israel. The strange small, large boy, Uri, is encircled by a conflicting group of newly arrived immigrants and activists seeking to establish themselves in the forth-coming battle against the British and then the Arabs. This is a grandly-woven tapestry of intricate misfits, humor and history. In wonder, a non-Israeli asks, "How does she (Israel) do it?--How does this worn-out, barren old girl make them all fall madly in love with her? I was once in southern Persia: exactly the same miserable hills, dotted with gray rocks, with a few olive trees and pieces of old pottery. Nobody crossed half the world to conquer them." Told with affection, the question is the very essence of the book.

My Second-Most-Handled Book
Flight is a miracle; Stephen Dalton forcefully makes that case. The little boy believes him. The seasoned aviator believes him. The scholarly engineer believes him. I believe him, for I am all those people. As Chairman of a major undergraduate Aerospace Engineering department, as prior Chief Test Pilot for a developing fighter, as a boy at heart that still loves the simple joys of flight, I believe him. My students believe him, drawn by the stunning pictures, making this my second-most-handled book.

As a Aeronautics educator, I've actually looked for such a book for some time. If students are to understand the complexity and wonder of an airplane, I need to draw their attention to 'simpler' things, things they already know (though they may not know that they know them). They've seen ducks land on ponds. Through Dalton's book my students (ranging from 8 to 23) connect how in an airplane we're merely mimicking what God has already done in the design of the duck.

Dalton has done this powerfully in the most amazing nature photography I've ever seen. Spanning the smallest flying insects to the largest of flying machines, Dalton depicts the aeronautics that make flight work. Furthermore, without compromising splendidly accurate technical content, the photography still persuades you that flight is still miraculous.

Miraculous is an interesting choice of words. Is there another conclusion we're to draw? The boy in me, the pilot in me, the educator in me are compelled to marvel at the God whose fingerprint is so strikingly upon such images of flight. On one hand we assert that only by intense study and careful design can man arrive at a robust flying machine. Is it then reasonable to insist that to improve upon our best efforts, to design instead a bird, for example, you must instead forsake intent and rely instead upon chance? My most-handled-book explains how it is fitting that the boy, the warrior, and the teacher should take note of nature and then worship the God responsible. "The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech..." Psalm 19

Buy the book. Ask then if you should worship God.

A fine, fine book
Whether you sell your manuscript to a publisher or publish yourself, the author must do the promotion. Writing and promoting are completely different challenges. But, one person can successfully be the author, the publisher, the publicist, the shipping person, and the bookkeeper--and end up with a profit. This book proves it.

Suzanne Thomas's newest book, Make Money Self-Publishing, describes how fourteen publishers have written, published, and sold enough books to support themselves. You get the inside stories of real people in real life situations. Not only will you learn about their successes, but also about their mistakes. You will discover that you can succeed even if some of your marketing efforts don't produce the results you expected.

Whether you are new to self-publishing or already have several books in print, you will find how to increase the odds that your publishing company will make money. You will gain insights into how to determine the size of your print runs, how to market your books effectively, what type of income you can expect, and how long it will take before your publishing business can support you.

Perhaps you suspect that successful self-publishers are somehow different, but the publishers in this book are ordinary people. No matter whether you've written a regional or national title, fiction or nonfiction, a cookbook or a textbook, you will find someone here to be your role model. Instead of reinventing the wheel, you can learn from their experiences. Just like Olympic athletes who visualize themselves performing perfectly, and thereby improve their real-world abilities, so too can you leap ahead in your skill level as a publisher.

Even if you started your publishing company last week, reading Make Money Self-Publishing can help you gain years of knowledge, while avoiding costly mistakes. Each of the profiled publishers have faced the same problems you have. Given the limitations of their available time and their budgets, they have figured out the best ways to sell their books. Some sell through traditional outlets such as bookstores while others sell their books in electronic format or through Internet bookstores. You can live through their experiences vicariously, imagining what the results would be for your book.

Though the job of a self-publisher is challenging and satisfying, the day-to-day work can sometimes be discouraging. Along with the successes come setbacks. Perhaps a wholesaler returned a carton of your books. Maybe your sales numbers have started to drop. Or a public relations company hasn't produced results.

At moments like these it is important to have friends who can help with advice, but they aren't always available when you need them. The publishers in this book, however, can act as handy substitutes, conveniently waiting on your bookshelf. What did Cheri Thurston do to reduce returns from wholesalers? How did the Hoffmans rejuvenate the sales of one of their cookbooks after annual sales dropped to 1,000 copies? What did Gayle Mitchell do when she decided she could market her book better than the company she had hired?

Sometimes you won't be looking for solutions to particular problems. Instead you may want an injection of enthusiasm. Rereading your favorite chapters will inspire you to try something new, remind you of an idea you had forgotten, or motivate you to write the next book. Each chapter is a story, and beyond their educational value, they are also plain fun to read.

Make Money Self-Publishing is a valuable addition to any publisher's library. It's an invaluable reference for any self-publisher who needs encouragement and guidance. Suzanne's book provides you with valuable information sweetened by a huge dose of inspiration. If you want to make money as a publisher, then you should read this book.

Suzanne Thomas has succeeded at both publishing and real estate. Determined, focused and tenacious, she succeeds by helping others reach their goals.

A compendium of invaluable advice and "how to" tips
Make Money Self-Publishing is a compendium of invaluable advice and "how to" tips, tricks and techniques drawn from fourteen successful self-published authors who have written and published their own works in the genres of cookbooks, mysteries, travel guides, business, education, and women's fiction. Aspiring self-publishers will learn how to evaluate the potential of their book concepts; avoid making costly "beginner" mistakes; learn effective and essential marketing ideas; discover profitable places to sell books outside of traditional bookstores; publicize and promote their book on the Internet and the world wide web; calculate how many books need to be published in order to earn a living; balance the hours of work against a potential income figure; decide when and why to publish other authors; even how to sell publishing rights to a major New York house for additional profits. Make Money Self-Publishing is a valued and much appreciated addition to any personal, professional, school or community writing/publishing reference book collection.

I love this book!
What a valuable twist on all the self-publishing advice that's out there! I love the anecdotes about *real* self-publishers, especially the concrete information about sales volumes and income streams. Other anecdote-based books about self-publishers whose books became best-sellers are inspiring, but not too realistic for most of us. This book tells stories about publishers who are able to make a living with moderately successful books.

Because Suzanne has chosen a wide variety of publishers for her anecdotes, the reader can see that there is no "one right way" to be successful in the publishing business. This book almost has a "do what you love and the money will follow flavor"--many of the publishers profiled have gone into the business, not for the profit potential, but because the business gives them the flexibility to live their chosen lifestyles.

I highly recommend this well-written book to fledgling self-publishers looking for advice, inspiration, and a change of pace at the end of an exhausting day learning the dozens of new skills required in the publishing business.

Carrie- -Short But Wonderfully Sweet!
I had been planning to read a Stephen King book for a long time, and I decided why not start with first, and most classic, book CARRIE? I started reading it on Saturday Morning. I was done with it by Sunday Afternoon. The first two paragraphs of CARRIE just reel you in, and it's a hook you're glad to be stuck on.

CARRIE is about a character named Carrie White, who is the one outcast that everyone only pays attention to when they're in search of a good, cruel laugh. There's one thing they don't know about her, and that is that Carrie is telekenetic (T.K.), a mental condition where the effected mind can be capable of amazing feats, sometimes even deadly ones...and when a girl like Carrie has that power, no one knows what might happen. Stephen King shows all sides of the story beautifully by having various characters revolving around Carrie, and all the well-thought-out bits of information about Carrie herself from books, court testimonials and such.

I give it only four stars out of five because near the end of the novel, there was more action than I wanted, so I became slightly bored. But as soon as it went back to Carrie's Point-of-View, I was once again hooked.

This book, in itself, is very shocking. The sexual terms that Stephen King uses in his writing are always shocking, but for some reason, I wanted to read more of the shock material. I think that in our minds, we always yearn for what we're reading to go over our usaual boundries, and CARRIE most certainly does that.

Because of the shock material, I would recommend this book for anyone older than a very mature twelve year old. It's a great book to just sit down with, read, and enjoy the ride!

Carrie - Chilling and Thought Provoking
Few books I have read have provoked a response like Carrie did. King leaves out nothing in his first novel which he said he just had to write for all of the Carrie White's of this world. Things shocking and downright horrifying are told in great detail by King leaving me stunned. Unlike most of his novel which take the first 100 pages to really develop, King draws you immediately into Carrie's world in the opening scene. We are left shocked and sympathetic for poor Carrie, just like Susan Snell. King also provokes sympathy for Carrie through the horrible treatment from her mother. We are kept glued to the pages till we can't wait to see what will occur on prom night. I won't ruin prom night for you but let's just say that there are a lot of surprises, especially if you know nothing about the book or movie like I did. The format of the novel is a little peculiar and it takes awhile to get used to. At times, I just wanted to get the story moving along but the articles give useful and vital information to knowing what was happening outside of Carrie's world and mind. Carrie is also not as long as most, but King utilizes every word on every page to touch our every senses of the imagination. The dialogue looks to be a beginner's but is still very good. I am just finishing up high school and I see the kind of behavior of Carrie's nemesis' all the time. Every high school in America probably has a scapegoat like Carrie in it. It helped me especially to really think about the things that I say to people and the way I treat them. After reading Carrie, it amazes me the way we hurt each other every day in life whether we mean to or not. I can't blame Carrie for acting the way she did, and do not feel any smypathy for the kids that died that treated her the way they did. Carrie is the real victim in this story and it's a tragedy that there are too many Carrie's out in the real world that just want someone to love them. I loved the book and I'm sure you will too. It will really make you think about yourself and how you interact with people every day of your life.

Stephen King--Carrie
...

Perhaps one of the most exceptional horror stories published the second half on the twentieth century, "Carrie" is a story that relates to every single teenager at some point in their lives, which is what makes this Stephen King novel one of his most powerful works ever. Carrie White is no ordinary high school girl, and the other students obviously knows this, and they treat her like living hell. But what they don't know about Carrie is that she is ready to snap--to abolish all of the shameful feelings that she has about herself, to quiet her critical, overly-religious mother, and to inflict revenge on those who have hurt her with her telekinetic powers. King portrays his Carrie in a spell-binding fashion, taking us through the tribulations of her first period, the secret love that she has for one of the most popular boys at school, and the riveting prom night in which Carrie's inner demons take full force. Although not long (256 pages), "Carrie" is the definition of a page-turner and a novel that should be read in one setting in order to get the full effect. A true trimumph of horror, emotion, and hate. Brilliant.
