Much-Needed Photographs of Rapidly Disappearing Plants
A must-have for every library in south Texas. This well-organized book fills a large gap in reference material about vegetation which remains undisturbed on less than 95% of south Texas' landmass. Placement of photos and construction of keys make this an excellent introductory text for students of botany. It's the first volume I can recommend to junior-high and high school teachers as a "user-friendly" approach to keying south Texas herbs. Lots of south Texas plants remain unmentioned here, however. Let us not assume that they are nonnative or without "use to livestock and wildlife."

a gist book with all that is necessary
I happened to read this book when I was preparing for my boards(step 3) recently. As I started reading this book, I felt it very useful and had special emphasis on all the cases we commonly encounter in the primary care setting. This book will make it best in conjunction with Harrisons Principles of Internal Medicine. It is particularly good in areas of Cardiovascular diseases, Pulmonary diseases, Gastrointestinal diseases, Rheumatology, Neurology. It has all the essentials we need in day to day practice setting and it also tells you to refer to a standard textbook in areas which cannot be covered in handbook. It is particularly useful for the residents who intend to take step 3 as it allows you to get the best of the gist within the short time you have during residency. I read it for my step 3 and found it very helpful. I personally would combine this with Harrisons Principles of Internal Medicine to make it 100% good internist. If at all there is not much stress in this is in areas of hematology and it says to refer to standard book. I would rate this book 5 stars for the way this book was put and the less time you spend but you remember everything of it. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to comment about this wonderful book.

She laughed
My wife laughed when I gave her this book. She read the rules out loud to me. She didn't say she'd follow them, though. Like I wanted her to go car shopping with me and she wouldn't. But she did let me hold the remote control more. Good gift. IF your wife has sense of humor.

EXCELLENT GUIDE FOR NOVICE PUBLC SPEAKERS
I came across SPEECH COMMUNICATION MADE SIMPLE by accident. A friend is using this book as a text in a college speech class. I glanced through it and realized that is would be perfect for me. In my new position, I have to make lots of presentations. I have very little public speaking experience and really needed a guide. This is a wonderful book to help guide anyone through the process of writing, organizing, and rehearsing a speech. I highly recommend it to anyone, not just ELS speakers or college students. The chapter on Speaking to Inform was particularly helpful and extremely well written. This book is so user friendly and practical. I refer to it often. I like it even more than Public Speaking for Dummies, which I did find to be helpful, too.

An informative commercial
This book is very educational about the topic, but it mentions the same supplier of materials an average of twice per page. I learned quite a bit from it and will continue to use it as a valuable reference, but expect to read about aerosol products and specialty tools from the same company throughout the book. The author doesn't stick with the most authentic of repairs and restorations, but he does do a good job of showing the authentic level of repairs as well as the not so authentic. Overall, worth the money but a tad annoying.

Finally a helpful book
After being frustrated with countless titles on auto restoration, this book is a God send. It covers everything in concise detail and includes large Color photographs. No other books Ive seen comes anywhere close to the quality of this one. The information in here is priceless. The author has obviously restored many cars and researched many techniques.

Checked it out from the library, now getting my own copy
I've got a 53 Studebaker to restore, so I checked out all the books available at the library on car restoration. This one was by far the best. In fact I liked it so much, I'm buying my own copy. It told me everything I wanted to know and more. For example, the chapter on removing rust explains and illustrates several ways to go about it, then makes recommendations complete with which is the best for the environment.

Classic Baptism: An Inquiry into the Meaning of the Word As Determined by the Usage of Classical Greek Writers

worth the effort
This book is not an easy read, but it will reward the diligent. Dale examines in detail what the Greek people meant when they used the word BAPTIZO. Those who have been taught that "baptize" means "immerse" will have their eyes opened. Note that Dale in this volume deals with pre-1st century literature. In his later books (JUDAIC BAPTISM, JOHANNIC BAPTISM, and CHRISTIC AND PATRISTIC BAPTISM) he deals with baptism as used in early Jewish and Christian literature, especially the OT and NT. What is particularly interesting is how Dale interacts with other writers on the subject, such as Alexander Carson. No one can claim to be an authority on this subject until he has carefully read all of Dale's books.

No study on baptism is complete without this book.
This book is well worth the money. Dale examines the use of the Greek words "bapto" and "baptidzo". This is not a study of any biblical text but of how the word was used in Classic Greek. Dale will develope theological implications of the words and religious practice in subseuent volumes. This is a starting point. He shows there is no inherent religious association with the words as to their use or mode. No investigation on the subject of baptism is complete without this study. Be prepared, the book is full of sarcasm when arguments for the traditional definition of baptism (that it only means to dip or immerse) are pulled apart. The sarcasm is a little too thick at times but in most cases is quite humorous.

Confusing
When I saw the page I recognized the cover of the book, but I could not believe what people were actually writing about it.

First I want to say that I am an undergraduate biotechnology student. I have a very strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, and immunology; but I have not had any classes dealing with anatomy or physiology since Bio 101 way back when. I have read and am quite comfortable with Alberts Molecular Biology of the Cell and Stryers Biochemistry, and even a handful of primary journal articles, so I do know how to read a textbook.

Now with that out of the way, let me say that this book is completely incomprehensible. It is so full of anatomy and Latin derived words (which it does a poor job at explaining BTW) that I can only assume that it was meant for medical students, and to have physiology an a prerequisite for it, but it doesn't even have an introduction describing the recommended background or whom it is supposed to be for. In fact, most of the book is devoted to the physiology of sensation and movement, not neurobiology. Now if you have the background for it and thats what you are looking for then it is a very thorough text that goes into a lot of depth.

If you are looking to understand the biochemistry or molecular aspects of neurobiology, find another book!

Excellent! Accessible, great graphics, good organization.
As an undergraduate Psychobiology student, this text served me well in my Neuroscience course. In all honesty I never went. I just read this book. I got excellent marks in the class. As a serious slacker and bibliophile, I recommend this textbook for any like-minded student.

Excellent for Undergrads
As an undergraduate Neuroscience major I found this textbook to be highly informative and well-written. It was used to a Freshman-level course, and was easy to understand, yet thorough and interesting. The graphics are well done, and the format is better than most textbooks I'm used to. Anyone, even with minimal science experience could dive right in and learn a great deal. It may not be advanced enough, however, for grad or medical students. As a reference it does okay, but there are more-advanced texts which would probably do better. All-in-all it is an excellent book. In-fact, I liked it so much that I didn't sell it back at the end of the semester and keep it on my bookshelf for future reference (and future classes!)

Not Just for WW members!
I bought this book because I am on Weight Watchers. I have other cookbooks of theirs but I needed something that made dinner quickly. It had to be able to satisfy the finicky eaters. I have two of them! I needed it to be a little more filling for my dear husband. I wanted to add some interesting recipes. Well, this book is the answer.

The sections of the book are divided into 15, 20, & 30. How wild is that? In front of these sections, it gives an index of what meals are in there. You can plan your menu out just by figuring out how much time you want to spend cooking. There are some meals that need more time. SORRY! My favorite part is that on the side of every recipe there is a list of ingredients so, you can just check what you have in the house. You can have an easier time shopping for the stuff too. There is nothing exotic in this book. This thrills me to death! I have timed some of the meals and they are pretty close. One small nitpicky thing is that there are just a few pictures. You do not see those mouthwatering pictures that draw you to the stove. The book is not glossy so, there is no resistance to damage. Another item that bothers me is that it is not organized into categories of food types such as: poultry, vegetarian, meat, etc. Itis organized by time and the food is just slopped into the section.

It has the points that you use for Weight Watchers. However, for those that are not on WW, it makes life easier by cooking less, using eye appealing recipes, and containing the nutritional info. It can help people that are just trying to eat healthier.

This is one of my two favorite Weight Watchers' books. You must buy this book. The positives definitely out weigh the negatives! Happy Eating!

This Book is also 'Simply the Best'!
I really liked this cookbook, because the recipes are quick, easy to follow and good! My family likes it and I don't feel like I am making food just for me. My 3 year old really like the Southwestern Skillet Macaroni and Cheese and always requests seconds! The recipes really take 15, 20 and 30 minutes to prepare. I am still losing and LOVE to cook everynight now that Weight Watchers has made it so easy. If you aren't on the WW program you will still love this cookbook, and if you are, then it will help you achieve your goal with a lot more fun.

Another excellent cookbook from weight watchers
Excellent set up of the cookbook. Recipes are set up not only as breakfast, lunch, dinner but as 15 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minute recipes. The recipes are easy to *read*, everything is set up very clearly and simply. Points are included as are calories, fat, carbs...and other nutritional info, so you could use this recipe on other diets as well. Particularly helpful for low fat, low cal, and diabetic diets (altho ww generally uses sugar as a sweetener, this could be adjusted)

The recipes are excellent with easy to find ingredients. Some of the ethnic recipes might require things not normally in a pantry but arent items that are so way out you would never use them again. There are many full color pictures of finished dishes which i like very much. (I do wish the paper was glossier as it cleans up easier)

This cookbook has followed the other ones i have had in the respect that the recipes *work*. I have made many recipes from ww cookbooks for company without trying them ahead of time, with no problem. Also included are *what to serve with it* suggestions.

You might find for your *non-dieters* that the portions are a bit small...or a lot small. Just keep that in mind when looking over the recipes... The recipes would be great for dieters and non dieters alike

Interesting But Not Great
After reading RAILROAD SCHEMES I was enthalled with Cecelia Holland's heroine, Lily Viner, and couldn't wait to see how her life would unfold in LILY NEVADA. Though not entirely disappointed in the sequel, I didn't find it as satisfying or captivating as the RAILROAD SCHEMES. The winsome young daredevil we met in RS seemed to have become a angry, cold, distant woman in LN. The historical narratives are interesting but I feel that character development & interaction were sacrificed to make room for the history. I hope that Ms. Holland takes us into Lily's world at least one more time and possibly resolves Lily's obvious ties to Brand and her link to her new-found mother.

Enjoyable, but not as good as Railroad Schemes
This was a very good novel continueing the story of Lily Viner, the heroine we met in Railroad Schemes. In this sequel Lily is now 20 years old and has joined up with a theatre. Lily has been searching the news papers for any sign that her mother, who left her and her father when Lily was only a toddler. The only thing that Lily nows about her mother is her name, but she won't give up.

The Railroad Dective, Brand, is now on the trail of a man, who was formerly a part of the theatre. The man, whose name he finds out from Eva Green (Lily's friend and roommate), has supposedly sent a threatenig letter to the governer of California. When Brand finds them (the theatre) he finds out that Lily is traveling with them. This sets Brand on a whole new quest to steal Lily's heart, while still searching for the man that is plotting against the governor.

First class California history
Ms. Holland has provided a wonderful combination of superb storytelling, colorful characters and real history that jumps off the pages. This is a fascinating picture of San Francisco in the days of its brawling streets and railroad barons. The book seethes with energy. A fine sequel to Railroad Schemes which reaffirms Cecelia Holland's status as a master of the historical novel.
