Fabulous read-aloud for children up through high school!!
I read a chapter in this book each night for months to a cabin full of cynical, talented 17-year-old girls. And they loved it - and weren't ashamed to admit it. It's one of the few children's books I will recommend to any friend (I'm 25) and one that I love re-reading after enough time has passed that I've forgotten how beautifully worded it is. There's plenty of description AND action, and a moral thrown in as well (but not grossly). I can't believe this beautiful woman with an incredible voice and acting talent can write this well. She does!!!

Our Favorite Read Aloud this Year!
Our third grade class highly enjoyed listening to our teacher read The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. The story was exciting, adventurous, and our imaginations got plenty of exercise. We think Julie Edwards, the author, is a very descriptive writer who created fantastic pictures in our minds with her words. The out-of-the-ordinary creatures that Lindy, Tom, and Ben encountered on their journey to Whangdoodleland with Professor Savant were hilarious. There was never a dull moment because the story was filled with cliffhangers. The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles was our favorite read aloud this year. We highly recommend this book.

The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles
The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles was the best book I read during fourth grade. It's a great fantasy book with four main characters: Ben, Lindy, Tom, and Professor Savant. They use some imagination to appear in a wonderful place called Whangdoodleland. The creatures of Whangdoodleland start to disappear because people stop believing in them. The Professor invites Tom, Ben, and Lindy on a quest to find the last Whangdoodle. It isn't as easy as they thought with all the evil creatures trying to stop them. Also there are many helpful creatures such as the wifflebird, the swamp gallons, and the high-behind splinter cat. What made this book good was the description which made you feel like you were in the book. The adventure of Tom, Ben, and Lindy kept you interested through the entire book.

Excellent "Business Side" of the business book.
Make no mistake, this is NOT a book about producing a film or running a production. This is a great book about the 'business side' of the film business.

Lots of information on how prodco's are set up, figuring out distribution (although nothing about going the direct-to-video route) deals.

No matter what kind of production company you are setting up you will find information of use in here but it's not about production planning from the sense of scheduling or day-to-day running a prodco.

5 Stars
If you're not a [professional] or a rich kid then you had better know what you're doing. Read everything you can find.

Highly recommended!
I recently took the producer's business seminar offered by John J. Lee Jr. Not only is he an exceptional speaker, but the material within the book is truly amazing. For new producers like myself, the book gives the reader a wealth of information on the film business. For those of you who are interested in the seminar, I would also recommend that. Its worth every penny!

Good Book
This was a good book but out of date on many topics. It is a great all around reference or start-up and go book. I decided I wanted to learn about cars so I found this book at a tag sale and now I know the basics. I would suggest this book for its no-nonsense and in-depth approach.

A must for motoring enthusiasts.
I'm an automotive engineering student and I use this book as a reference. It provides information on virtually everything on or related to a car, tools, brakes, suspensions, fuel systems, just to name a few. Besides that, it also provides service and diagnosis information on every system of the car it covers. The language used is simple to understand, and yet blends well with layman's terms. There's also a dictionary on automotive terms in the book. Recommended to motoring enthusiasts and automotive students.

Outdated Material ... AGAIN
I was extremely disappointed in Ms. Crowe's "updated" book about online genealogical research. Each edition of this book has been consistently behind the times, and her millenium edition is no exception. While she has made some excellent points in her research reference, it is ,most unfortunate that her information about the Genealogy Forum on America Online is so terribly outdated. The screen shots she has included are of screens that were replaced well over a year ago, and there is no mention of some of the excellent, newer resources there. If this is any indication of how current her descriptions are of other resources included in her book, many genealogists will hit the ground running a year or more behind. Ms. Crowe is a good writer. It's regretable she hasn't invested her time in making sure her material is more current.

Also, shame on the publisher for including a copyright date of the year 2000 in September 1999! They're obviously trying to extend the salability date of this book. Isn't there a copyright law to prevent this?

Good & Bad points..
Not so suprising that there's such disparity in the reviews of this book. Especially since most every review I read so far was true.

This book is good if: you are a genealogist NEW to the net. A lot of ground is covered, in terms of what kinds of software is needed (over an above the venerable genealogical database), as well as how to act/speak/do online.

This book is bad if: you've been online for more than a week. Too much ground is covered... well... look at the paragraph above... :)

I've found that some of the information she presents is a bit dated, but not so much so that a new user will terribly embarrass themselves by relying on it.

Overall, for myself (as a computer consultant of 15+ years) it did have some information to impart. Not necessarily enough to make this a "must have", but worth a read and recycle.

Keeping up with the on-line world - Again!
I just finished reading over "Genealogy Online" newest edition - for the first time. Obviously, this newest Millennium Edition is one that I will be using for reference on a continual basis. Ms. Crowe's newest revision is not only a very precise tool for guidance in on-line research, but also a wealth of information for all levels of genealogists. In the ever-changing world of the Internet it is very hard to present the "newest and best" of sites to hit. This book does that and more!
