Anthony`s book review!
I liked the beginning of "Pleasing The Ghost" but as we read the book it started to get lame there wasn`t very much action. One thing that I didn`t like was that the illustrator showed pictures of what was going to happen next so it gave it away.I liked when Uncle Arvie crushed the chocolates and pinched Colin. This was hilarious.A book that is similar was "The B.f.G."I think it was similar because the B.F.G. talked his own language and so did Uncle Arvie.Another thing that is common is that the beginning of the book is good but at the end it is boring. My least favorite charactor is Uncle Arvie because if I were him i would go around kicking people in the shins.I don`t like him because he`s dumb and he never does anything bad. My favorite charactor is Dennis because he is weird. He is weird because he has an imagination bigger than the solar system.Another thing thaty I don`t like is that they don`t say what city they are in.I like to know this.Over all I give this book 2.Compared to the Witches this book is 0.I recomend this book to younger children because they have bigger imaginations.

GHOST MAN
I think 'Pleasing the ghost' was an extraordinary book because of the strange words Uncle Arvie used. Iliked the part when Uncle Arvie was squishing the chocolates, and when Aunt Julia didn't know what was squishing the chocolates.

The theme was about a little boythat could see ghost. His name is Dennis. When Dennis Uncle Arvie came to visit it ment trouble for Dennis. When Dennis told Billy that Uncle Arvie could fly. Billy didn't see it and Dennis could not prove it. After Billy did not see that Uncle Arvie could not fly, Billy started chucking rocks throw the window of Dennis house. The setting took place in a quiet little town. SORRY! I cann't tell you the name of the town because if i told you that i would have to tell you the wholestory. Some of the strang words Uncle Arvie said was mailer, chinkapink, heartfoot, pepperoni, dinosaur, macaroni, fraggle, raggle, pasta, and philanplop. I can't tell you the meaning because I forgot. Just kinding. I don't know what to tell you because that would give away the story.

I recommend this book to people that like fairytales that have ghosts and little boys that can see ghosts.

Craig's Review
"Pleasing the Ghost" is written by the author named Sharon Creech. I liked this book because I like to hear ghost stories. This book is similar to a book that I read up north about all kinds of ghosts. There is one thing that might have spoiled the book: there is a picture of the surprise on the back cover of the novel. If you want to know what the surprise is, then you should read the book to find out. The pictures in this book were good. They had lots of detail and, compared to "The B.F.G.", they were better. The three characters that I liked in this book were: Uncle Arvie, Dennis and Bo(Dennis's dog). There were still some other good characters in this book but those three were my favourites. This story took place in three locations. It started out at Dennis's home. Then, during the stroy, it took place at the park in the town, and then at Uncle Arvie's old house. This novel is exciting because of the adventures in it. The author does a good job at making up those "witty" words and the spelling was so "witty" also. Some people I talked to about this book, said that they liked it because they like ghosts and others said it was king of boring. I say that it was a good book. People who like to read and like to hear about ghosts, they should read this book. Some people might find the book sad because of the fathers who passed away and didn't visit their children. I especially like the funny words and the good characters in this book.

Illustrations do not match story
The story is touching and has a nice message. However, the garish, ugly, busy pictures undermine the impact of the story. Imagine what this book would have been like if Wendell Minor had done the illustrations! Instead, the illustrations with their dreadful colors and awful images confuse and alienate children who are the assumed target audience. This will not be a book a child would be naturally drawn to and would stay on most library shelves, which is unfortunate since the story is so delightful.

Disappointing
I bought this book for my younger children (ages 4 and 7) and have tried several times to read it to them. Unfortunately, it simply does not hold their attention. I agree with the other reviewer that the illustrations undermine the impact of a nice little story. While I think the illustrations are somewhat interesting, my children cannot see what I am reading in the confusing and disjointed images. They quickly become bored (an unusual reaction for them).

THE JOY OF CHILDHOOD!
Instead of "time outs", spending more time with your children, is the focus of this book. In it, a father and son bond by going fishing together. Out in the peaceful solitude of this natural setting they catch fish, and let their imaginations soar as they cast their lines into shimmering water. Lovely paintings highlight this charming story. Much like "Where Do Balloons Go?", by Jaime Lee Curtis, "Guardian Angels" by Naomi Judd, and "A Boy's Summer:Father and Son Together", by Gerry Spence. All four books are delightful and stir memories of the joy and simplicity of childhood.
