Cortázar name is Cortázar
I'm sorry but Julio's last name is Cortázar, not Cortaza. He is a genius of literature, he's style is unique, he's a master of mistery, fantasy and surrealism, only grat mens can create a universe just with words. Incredible book. Is also really funny

truly jarring stories
For this tiny volume of stories, I feel most of all a frequent hunger to reread. This collection provides a fine introduction to Cortazar's writing, for those who do not want to dive into Hopscotch or The Blow-Up without evidence of the author's skill to turn tales. There are two stories in this volume that I utterly love. The one presents a rather twisted world of the late high school or early university years. Two brave students seek their teachers after hours and gain access to a nearly diabolical cabal. The characters uneasily force reactions to the curious, new circumstances. The other story, hauntingly memorable for me, I would rank among my favorite short stories. The violence of street gangs and political malcontents overlaps with the domestic life of a family attempting to nurse one of its own out of a coma. The boundary shared by the private and political in these stories is subtly and subversively sketched. The importance of some stability and justice in both realms, despite the incursions of the irrational and unjust, Cortazar communicates thoughtfully within stories that do not for a second wink disingenuosly or evoke the repugnance that some more abrasively political fictions and less gloriously delightful might.
A psychedelic trip through frighteningly probable,
each story in this book leaves your head spinning, forces you to put down the book and think
In the Don't blame anyone, the simple act of putting on a sweater becomes the ultimate nightmare, tension rising to an impossible level and releasing, "12 floors down"... This book is short, but on shouldn't rush reading through. Instead, one should sit still for a minute (or hour - or a day, for that matter) and think... Unreasonable Hours is a wonderfully eary description of 'it can happen to you'

Poetic lights on Julio cotazar
This book is a real jewl for those who like the fresh and deep prose of Cortazar; It gives you the chance to taste most concentrated feelings and reflections of a writer that found the way to show us the magic and cosmic side of common experiences, and put it in words.
Among the Cortazar's prose and his poetry lives the substance that separate our regular lives from our most deep compulsions.
Its a unique experience.

Cortazar at the top of his writing skills
Julio Cortazar, whose untimely death in 1984 left a considerable gap in Latin American literature, is, to me, the most accomplished short-story writer of the so-called 'Latin American boom', and in this collection of short stories he truly proves what a master of the genre he was. 'Ceremonias' combines two of his previous collections, 'Final del juego' and 'Las armas secretas', both of which had a wide readership in Latin America. In each story, Cortazar probes deep into the human psyche, even into that of children ('Los venenos' and 'Final del juego'), and illuminates us with his unsettling understanding of the many things that drive us. 'Las armas secretas' itself is a harrowing story of rape, desire and repressed memories that is vintage Cortazar. The issue of 'otherness' is often explored, particularly in his superb story 'Axolotl'. But perhaps the most famous story in 'Ceremonias' is 'El perseguidor', loosely based on Charlie Parker's life, a story of a tormented musician told with incredible pathos and empathy towards all its characters.
I thoroughly recommend this excellent collection of short stories. If you havent't read Cortazar yet, it would be an excellent introduction to his wonderful, sometimes bizarre, world.

Julio Cortazar should have won the Nobel for Literature!
This is a great writer! He is funny, fantastic and humerous, and has great compassion and insight into the human heart, as witness his lead story of the collection. The movie blow-up (the original) was based on his story in this collection. A reader of a myster novel finds himself in the plot, a man becomes a fish, a couple are gradually moved out of their house by mysterous house guests and a young girl comes face to face with her disability in the title story, and her inability to face love. great collection.
