Colonel Cooper's best work to date!
Colonel (RET) Jeff Cooper is a controversial figure within the shooting community. His opinions both politically and in technical areas focusing on the deployment of personal weapons, in particular firearms, are subjects for argument among 'experts' as well as laymen. This is, in my opinion, his best work to date. Subjects range from practical pistol and rifle craft to current (1988) perceived political and cultural problems with some proposed controversial solutions. Colonel Cooper relies heavily on his personal experiences in combat and as a weapons instructor. His descriptions of hunting world-wide with emphasis on his African adventures are well worth the price of this book. His experiences during World War Two and more recently as a guest of the U.S. Army provide insight into the historical 'Warrior' mentality of which Colonel Cooper is a living example. If you like books about Teddy (Theodore Roosevelt), or such titles as 'Death In The Long Grass' by Peter Hathaway Capstic you will enjoy this work

By "The" Jeff Cooper, founder of the American Pistol Inst.
Jeff Cooper is known worldwide among shooters as the "Father of the Modern Technique of the Handgun". His contributions to the science of the defensive use of the handgun are legend. Founder of the original GunSite - American Pistol Institute. Trainer of Law enforcement trainers. A director of the NRA. This classic work includes the musings and philosophy of a man many call the "Guru". - Tom Scot

When a good book is worth a thousand experiences!
This is the best book about Intrusion Signatures published yet.
I teach computer security at a local university, and with the only help of this book, I could take care of all the practical aspects of my last course. If you have already a good background on this field, and read and understand thoroughly the book, then you can afford any related security certification test.
Chapters 3 through 17, present several well documented cases, which, in turn, are discussed following the same standard:
- Presentation
- Source of Trace
- Detect Generated by
- Probability the Source Address Was spoofed
- Attack Description
- Attack Mechanism
- Correlations
- Evidence of Active Targeting
- Severity
- Defense Recommendations
- Questions

Chapter 1 introduces the reader to Analysis of Logs (including Snort, Tcpdump, and Syslog), IDS, and Firewalls. Even being a quick review, it is quite useful, though.
Chapter 2 explains the way the cases are studied.

The covered vulnerabilities and attacks include:
- Internet Security Threats
- Routers and Firewalls Attacks
- IP Spoofing
- Networks Mapping and Scanning
- Denial of Service
- Trojans
- Assorted Exploits
- Buffer Overflows
- IP Fragmentation
- False Positives
- Crafted Packets

At the bottom line, this is one of the 5 best computer security books I ever read. Even for non experts, the book can be a valuable tool to improve the understanding on this field.
Try it.

A Great Title For Security Geeks to Learn Packet Forensics
I read this book out of general interest and a need to dig deeper into the technical aspects of security, and intrusion detection in particular. For that, this title is perfect!

It's great to learn intrusion detection, packet analysis, forensics, attack methodologies, attack recognition, and similar topics. And oh, by the way, if you have any interest at all in certification, Intrusion Signatures and Analysis is the study guide for one of the hottest new certs there is: SANS GIAC Intrusion Detection In Depth.

Includes review questions with throughout the book
A must-have for the serious network security professional, Intrusion Signatures And Analysis opens with an introduction into the format of some of the more common sensors and then begins a tutorial into the unique format of the signatures and analyses used in the book. Readers will find page after page of signatures, in order by categories as well as a case study section on how attacks have shut down the networks and web sites of Yahoo, and E-bay and what those attacks looked like. As an added feature, the collaborative authors Stephen Northcutt; Mark Cooper; Matt Fearnow; and Karen Frederick included review questions with throughout the book to help readers be sure they comprehend the traces and material that has been covered. Intrusion Signatures And Analysis is a recommended resource for the SANS Institute GIAC certification program. 448 pp.

THE definitive FrontPage book!
FrontPage 98 Unleashed is recommended reading from Amazon and Microsoft help desk! It has everything you need to go to the extreme with FrontPage 98. This was one of the rare books that I actually enjoyed reading. I learned so much from this one book is has paid for itself many times over.

I ordered extra copies to use in in-house training. I don't see how you can get by without it. Buy it! You won't regret the decision.

If you need a FrontPage book this is the one!
When it comes to FrontPage books there are lots of choices. Last week I spent a few hours in the bookstore trying to find the best one and I think I found it. The shelves were loaded with Lemay's FrontPage Web Workshop and Using FrontPage books. There was only one copy of FrontPage Unleashed in the whole store. I put the book down for a few minutes and the guy next to me picked it up and bought it! I ended up ordering the book from Amazon and it was certainly worth the wait. Buy FrontPage Unleashed if you need a FrontPage book. I love the book and that's a rarity.

The ONLY FrontPage book that covers it all!
1200 pages of excellent information! When I compared this book to others I was appalled at the enormous disparity. FrontPage 98 Unleashed was the only FrontPage book that actually covered all features and tools included with FrontPage 98.

FrontPage 98 Unleashed covers every feature of the FrontPage Explorer and Editor. These are the main tools for publishing and the text was excellent. I didn't find any errors and the book was obviously written with the final release of FrontPage 98. Some of the other books I checked had screens that didn't match anything to what my computer showed. This wasn't the case with FrontPage 98 Unleashed.

FrontPage 98 Unleashed has awesome coverage of Image Composer. There's like 8 massive chapters on graphics! I saw an entire book on Image Composer that didn't cover as much or as well.

The book also covers Microsoft GIF Animator and it was the only book I checked that did so. The GIF Animator is included with FrontPage 98 and it is userful.

You know this book is the only tell all and be all for FrontPage 98 when you get to the last 10 chapters. These chapters have in depth of using FrontPage with Web servers and advanced development. FrontPage 98 Unleashed was the only book to cover the FrontPage Server Extension Resource Kit in complete detail. You'll find lots of great details for remote administration, using server extensions with other types of servers. The book also covers the FrontPage Developer's Kit in complete detail and again was the only FrontPage book I looked at to do so!

With so much good things to say about FrontPage 98 Unleashed it is no wonder the book was recommened to me by the Microsoft help desk. I am very happy. Buy it you won't be disappointed.

Principles of Personal Defense
O.K. The basic concepts of the book are fine. However, this is not a book. It is a magazine article in disguise. Half of the forty pages are pictures, blank, of half pages of text. Go to the library if you must read this, but save your money.

The cover is the best part
I am sure Mr. Cooper is a very accomplished and knowledeable shooter and writer. However, I found this book to contain mostly issues and items that should be common sense to most people. As one reader of this book suggested in his comments, this is a magazine article with elementary drawings. Most of the criteria listed here should be explained to you at your handgun carry class in addition to the laws and general safety. I am sure to someone who wants to get an intimidating looking coffee table book where a mean looking fella is shooting at them, it's great, but for me, I found this purchase to be a dissapointment.

This does not mean I will pass on other Jeff Cooper books, but I will certainly read ALL of the reviews and try and make a better judgement than what the cover looks like.

Brief - yet Accurate Principles
The cost of this short pamphlet/booklet is a little high. The knowledge and proven concepts are invaluable...

Mr. Cooper is a true expert on the subject of self-reliance, self-preservation, firearms training and self-defense. This book is a very good primer for practical & realistic self-defense. Buy IT, READ IT, DO IT.

Hit and Run Trading II: Capturing Explosive Short-Term Moves in Stocks

Very solid.
I've never read the first one, so I can't compare and have no opinion on it. However, I did find this book is be very good. Gets straight to the point, has a dozen step by step strategies and methods that I'm positive will work with proper money management. I don't agree with all the theories, nor will I necessarily use these in my own trading. But, for someone new or looking for short swing type of trading methods .. this one is worth a look.

Pricey, but consider it an investment.

Good all around daytrading book
Looking at Jeff's second book, I am happy to say that I found it to be very useful. It goes into a lot more detail than his first book and gave me a better sense of how he trades. I mean, he introduced a number of new strategies and also included a pretty detailed section on the data feeds he uses, how he interprets charts intraday, and recommends a reliable brokerage system for you. It's a great little package with lots of helpful information.

A Complete Insight Into Hit and Run Trading II
Following up the original collection of successful strategies in Hit and Run Trading is Jeff Cooper's second and equally outstanding book on capturing explosive moves in stocks. I imagine the question on everyone's mind is, "Great, but will this improve my trading?" and the answer is - YES. The first book kick-started daytrading careers for thousands, and this one is bound to make you wonder how much further the author can break down the complexities of the markets and delineate methods for taking advantage of it.

Hit and Run Trading II, like its predecessor, is all about taking advantage of strongly trending stocks. There are four parts of this book revealing 17 new strategies:

1. Trend continuation patterns, holding for a few days

2. Cooper's best strategies, including Stepping In Front of Size

3. Reversal strategies

4. Techniques to improve your trading, including 40 learning examples.

Cooper provides solid groundwork for interpreting the dynamics of stocks and the market so traders can recognize the strategies for themselves. For example, the Intraday Relative Strength Trading Strategy (IRSTS), used to identify and exploit strength in big-cap Nasdaq stocks by comparing to the S&P futures action, is clearly defined for makings risk-adverse decisions. After Jeff outlines his strategies with a set of rules and examples, a trader is practically given a map of what to look for. All of the strategies of the book are discussed and broken down to a specific set of rules to follow. Of course, every situation in the market is truly different from the next, but it's the basic pattern and trends that repeat themselves over and over that Jeff has identified and made obvious.

A chapter of Q&A's is another valuable resource of this book. Through the years Jeff has been interviewed by radio shows and newspapers, and this represents the best and most useful insights from that material. This is where the reader can really get a feel for the thought process of a trader. Trading isn't just about having some great strategies to apply to the market; to be successful requires lots of hard work and devotion. From being fully prepared each day by locking in hours of research, to having a good understanding of how your judgment may be flawed, this section is an important part of this book and alone makes it worthwhile.

If you read the first Hit and Run book, you are aware of Jeff's style and well-thought-out strategies. This book is of the same spirit and quality. Having Jeff's strategies on your side would be a tremendous asset to any trader. Simply getting a glimpse of his perspective on the market would be beneficial to everyone from scalpers to intermediate-term traders. Jeff is a daytrader and a highly successful one. If given a chance, this book could take traders a long way, but as always, the decisions are always yours.

Novice Trader Learns Big!
Hi, folks! I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to read this. I'd like to go on record as saying that I learned a lot from this book. It is definitely different from his first two books (no new trading methods in this one, just reinforcement of the ones he's already introduced) but as a novice trader, this really helped me gather my thoughts during trading hours. In fact, I have probably paid for the book many times over since I first got it about 2 years ago. I strongly believe that many more would-be traders will benefit from this book as I have. Love ya, Jeffy!

good but not as good as expected.
This book is composed almost exclusively of jeff coopers daily learning sheets from his service. These sheats give commentary on what he looks for and how he applies his strategies. i found the "stepping in front of size" section to be most informative. that said, I did expect more. the advertizing said something like "would you like to look over coopers shoulder as he trades?". I expected to see examples going through the whole process of his trades. sellection, buying, moving up stops, and then selling out of individual trades. ie the whole process. (the book almost exclusively covers entry in the examples) he did discuss other aspects, but i was hoping for examples that would truely make it like "looking over his shoulder"(not only entry but where he sells, money mgt) . however, The book is still very usefull for people interesed in learning how to apply coopers short term methods, so i do recomend it. Any lesson that can be learned by spending this amount on a book plus study is well worth it, as learning in the markets is nessisary but very expensive.

Explore the unseen corners of urban life
This book offers an insight into the life of vampires and other creatures of the night in cities around the world. The book focuses on the larger cities like L.A., Berlin and of course, New York. A wonderful source for learning about the people, socities and groups behind the darkness in these cities. This sourcebook is very well written and is a pleasure to read. This is a must have for urban-based scenarios.

Bad Results!!
I was very disappointed after reading this book and checking out the numerous strategies listed in it! All of the strategies performed bad(except one)! I checked this because I bought the software module for it which shows buy and sell signals on charts in my metastock charting software. I checked all of the buy&sell signals generated from all the strategies in this book and most of them were false signals! Sure some of the strategies performed better than the others, but in general all performed bad! I was not looking for the "Holy Grail", but was expecting some better performance from these strategies! I HAVE SEEN some good trading strategies/systems after reading this book that are really impressive and outperform ones listed in this book! There is one exception to all this Jeff's "Stepping in Front of Size Strategy". This is really an IMPRESSIVE and VERY SMART strategy! This in the only one that I have not tested myself, but am very optimistic about the results, since logically it seems that it will work. In conclusion, this book was a MAJOR disappointment and I don't recommend it!

Good Trading Setups
This book contains a few types of trading setups. Some seem to be renamed candlestick patters and some are just plain good old setups for buying momentum stocks. We have purchased the software and at times reviewed the results in a somewhat limited manner. Our overall feel for this style of trading is that it could work with proper money management and proper filtering. In fact it has to work with proper filtering in an up market because experience tells us that trends experience pull backs and this books contains setups that will get you in to potentially large moves. Perhaps a filter looking for accumulation in the NASDAQ 100 or the S&P 500 would bring solid returns. One caveat, in general, the downside setups seem to have you selling right into the area where professionals love to stuff shorts. Really back test your sell setups. A good book for a person trying to figure out what professionals are thinking.

Truly good system for a short term trader
I purchased both of Cooper's books and have found that his methods really do work.

I highly recommend the books to any short term trader who wants fresh new trading ideas and for those who need a structured game plan.

Since I have use his strategies (I especially like the 1-2-3-4 strategy) I have made enough money to trade full time, and actually am trading money for family members.

The short term aspect is key in that you will see immediate results if a trade goes your way.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK!
This book has almost nothing to offer! By his own admission (from Cooper's interview above)

" ..I am wrong at least 40 percent of the time, if not higher. ".

How much higher? 45%? 55%? This is insane! The man is admitting that he loses money on nearly half his trades! And you wanna buy a 61-page book ... from him? Think about it!

This book is write on point
I have tested and traded many systems within the last year and was looking for a short-term swing pattern trading methodology that was simple and controlled losses and I can tell you that by just trading this system alone will make you money, don't think that just because it takes readily available information and puts it together in a way that produces a great trading system, that this book isn't worth the money, It IS! I can tell you from experience that when it comes to trading, it's the simplicity that is rare and effective. If you want a system what will allow you to trade right away with great results than buy this book

All you need is this one method to make money
I read the reviews from other buyers of the book and was quite surprised at the negativity which were in these comments.

I have traded this method since the manual came out and have made very good money doing so. I can only think that the trader from Houston and the trader from Brussels have not understood the overall way in which to trade.

I agree with Downtown that you must take profits when you see fit. Discretion is important. The method is a TREND FOLLOWING system keep that in mind.

I highly recommend the method.

The lesser of two Coopers
This is the edited 1979 version of "Cooper on handguns" (1974) done by Petersens Publishing. Known as the "black cover" Cooper, there is no need to own it unless you must have a complete set. There is nothing new in it from the 1974 version, and much cut out. Do yourself a favor and get the first one. It won't have anything new or flashy, but you will see the roots and basics of Practical Shooting.
