Breathtaking
Adolf Hitler and the editors of Time-Life Books deliver yet another masterful performance. This book is not a couple of inches thick as other Hitler books are but, you feel you miss out on nothing because what other books have in information, and verboseness this one more than makes up with sharp, concise, professional writing. This one really takes you deep withing the inner circle of concentric power of the infamous Third Reich emanating from will of the Fuhrer. No other title has succeeded in providing such an intimate view of the secluded everyday happenings in the lives of the supreme masters, that you actually have the feeling of being a first person witness. The insiders view is intense, as much of the action revolves around the magnetic personality of Adolf, it is not only a historically accurate document but an really intriguing personal biography. The photographs are of first rate, and is instrumental in the overall feel of splendor of this title. Reading it is guaranteed to be a tremendous affair

A Gem.
Center of the Web, (im assuming its from the Time Life Third Reich series) is an absolute must for any Hilter, and Third Reich student. This title is from the masterful Time Life Third Reich series, assuring a competent work, and delivering a masterpiece. This book in laced with breathtaking pictures and illustrations. The writing is superb, and the captions are marvels by themselves. The atention to detail in the production of the cover, the design, and layout of the book is outstanding. While other books are content to throw facts and information at you, this book is in a rare categorie of books that totally immerse you into the storie. The book takes you deep into the highest sector of Nazi Germany. into the daily life of Adolf Hitler. Pure reading enjoyment.

Masterful work in the love story genre
Man with insular personality inherits home from eccentric aunt with a peculiar pet-related condition attached. Man's first instinct is to sidestep condition and reap profit. Man learns to love home, pet and new woman in his life. This sounds like the plot of a Victorian play or a 40s B movie. But Where You Are is instead a very fine novel, due to its subtle narrative and refined character development. We come to understand our two protagonists in the silences rather than in what they say, and the "romantic salvation" of the male protagonist is not treachly, soapy, or forced.
This is a textbook example in how to take tried and true themes and make them new with witty, simple writing. More importantly, this was a really fun read.

Truly enjoyable
Let me start by saying that this is not a book for critics. It's not nearly disfunctional enough. This is a book for people who want to read something that makes them smile, that makes them dwell on the difficulties and the riches of life, that makes them take a deep breath when they finally put the book down at the end and be glad they made the journey.Clearly I liked it. First of all, you should read this book for the writing alone -- beautiful, concise, visual prose that is so rare these days. The novel is also extremely witty, with an intelligent sense of humor. You begin looking over the shoulder of a young man in his late 20s/early 30s dealing with an unexpected turn in life: he inherits a house that comes with a dog. He's not sure he wants the house. He's definitely sure he doesn't want the dog. But things aren't that simple, and you get to enjoy watching Lake, the main character, deal with life's unexpected turns. Whether cat lovers (not that there's anything wrong with that) will be able to relate, I don't know. I'm a dog person. The book shifts into a love story that, in my opinion, was incredibly rich simply because it feels so real, so down to earth. It captures two people as they fall in love and try to figure out if they are falling in love, and somehow it does it right. This book isn't for everyone...there's no disfunctional families, no melodrama, no biography of Jackie O. This book says life has its difficulties and it's confusions, but it also has beauty. I loved it and think that it's is a rare gem among thenovels being written today

The Neanderthals
This is a great book about the discovery of the neanderthals. When I first looked at this book in my local library I thought it would be a boring book. Yet to my amazement I loved reading the facts this book gave about the ancient neanderthals. It is a time line of events starting from the first discovery of the neaderthal up to now. This is one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. I highly recommend this book.

Alchemy Revealed
"Secrets of the Alchemists" edited by George Constable is part of the Mysteries of the Unknown series by Time-Life. This book consists of 144 pages of phenomenal information. "Secrets of the Alchemist" is split into four chapters. Chapter one being called "Chasing the Seductive Gleam" & in this chapter the reader will discover many astonishing pictures. The first page in the chapter is a giant yellow sun made out of gold. Not only will the reader be shocked by the golden illustrations & pictures but the information brilliant. Many great philosophers, alchemist, & occultist are described. A few of the names mentioned are Helvetius, Avicenna (the Arab Aristotle), Geber, Albertus Magnus, Roger Bacon & many more. Ouroboros "the serpent that bites its own tail" is also found in this chapter along side of different metals & their planet correspondences. At the end of the chapter there is an essay called "A Visit to the Laboratory." In this essay the author talks about what a Renaissance laboratory was like & shows pictures of different tools used in the laboratory. Chapter two called "Alchemy's Golden Age" gives a great historical background on alchemy. The medieval Ripley scroll by a monk named George Ripley is present in this chapter. I was amazed to find this behemothic scroll outlining the black, white, & red stages of alchemy (takes up 7 full pages!). Some other notable names in this chapter are John Dee, Edward Kelly, Paracelsus (creator of the Homunculus), Johann Goethe (famous for the Faust drama), & more. At the end of this chapter is an essay titled "Alchemical Wisdom from a Wordless Book." The book is better known as the "Mutus Liber" & follows the work of Adam McLean. This is a book that supposedly shows the answer to the philosophers' stone. Chapter three is titled "Into the Scientific Era" begins in the journey through time. "Into the Scientific Era" shows the development of alchemy & the mentality of the practitioners. Again in this chapter there are many great illustrations & a massive amount to information. The essay is called "The Great Work in the Orient" & is radiantly written. Printed on bright red pages the reader will surely not fall asleep while reading this essay. My favorite section in the "The Great Work in the Orient" which lists & illustrates the eight immortals. The final chapter designated "The Alchemist of Today" tells a tale of how gold was finally produced by physics & chemistry. Also mention is a few of the many people who failed & never found the infamous philosophers stone. Overall like all the Time-Life "Mysteries of the Unknown" books this is another exceptionally well-done work. I recommend this masterpiece to anyone interested in alchemy.

A must see
My son has never forgotten this book. I subribed to this series for him, but had to cancel half way through. I am looking for the rest of the set? It is just plain mesmerizing.

A catalog of interesting facts, and anomalies.
This interesting book is an encyclopedia of interesting and curious things that the ancients knew, or at least might have known. There are entries (among many) on the Library of Alexandria, the rust-resistant Delhi pillar, Petra, Great Zimbabwe, and the Greek explorer Pytheos.

Did you know that aluminum beads were discovered in a third-century Chinese tomb, some 1700 years before its "discovery" in the West? Did you know that the ancient Egyptians might have had the secret of making a battery? You would have had you read this book!

This book is well written, and easy to understand. The articles are short and to the point, but lacking in individual bibliographies (a minor complaint). This is an interesting book, and you will enjoy spending a few hours with it.
