Erudite study
An American Health Dilemma is a brilliant book, well-written and with a strong scientific foundation. It is clear and accessible to the non-specialist as well as the specialist. The first part of the book, a survey of racist thinking in the West, is one of the best summaries I have read in years. The book is interesting in its sociological, public health and social theory aspects. The notes are very clear, so that if you want further information you know where to find it. I highly recommend the book. It is a treasure trove of information, not only for Americans but for others interested to find out more about the perplexing question of race and health.

A Contemporary Challange to America's Health Care System
An American Health Dilemma, by W. Michael Bryd and Linda A Clayton presents the challenge of the gross disparity in health care in America. Tracing the history of Western racial bias which has informed the medical world's relation to people of African descent, the authors have presented a clear demonstration of the effects of racism on medical care in the United States of America. This perspective is an important one, as the nation again considers the disintegration of health care for all. This well documented study, is readable and challenging to all who are interested in the future of our society.

Statistical Models in Epidemiology
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (15 January, 1993)
Authors: David Clayton and Michael Hills
Amazon base price: $69.95

Outstanding mongraph for biostatisticians
I find all other so-called biostatistics books are helpless
until I have read this book. This book is written based on
Clayton and Hills's past experience in applying statistics
in their studies. They can illustrate most difficult concepts
by very simple examples and words which are totally differnt
than other text and teaching books. For other books, you
can learn a lot of various statistical techniques, but you
cannot understand what is the core idea behind the statistics.
You may get it from this book.

A very good for the non-Mathematician
Clayton and Hill's book is an excellent introduction to the Statistics underlying epidemiology for readers who are not specialist Mathematicians. The book does explain fairly erudite ideas, but it does so gently and the Mathematics used is elementary. There are also many not-too-hard exercises at the ends of sections, making this a very gopd bok to learn from. Highly recommended.

Doctors should buy this book too!
Doctors don't always know medication either. While vacationing in Annapolis a doctor over medicated me and I slept for hours. I hope he buys this book!

Do doctors really know their medications?
I think both patients and doctors should buy this book. I was once over medicated by a doctor while vacationing in Annapolis and slept for hours! I sure hope he buys this book!

puzzled about editor
why is the editor of this book listed as Andrew j. Buda in the search and Brenda Adderly in the link?

Good theory;too opinionated &weak scholarship
This was an interesting theory on the fight and it is plausible. It falls short because the author uses secondary sources, not original for his documentation. Also, he should have edited out the hyperbole in his descriptions of the participants. it would have been a better read, as well as better scholarship, if he had toned down his persons biases and let the reader form his own opinion. At the very least, he should have separated "facts" from his opinion.

Western Fun!
Tombstone is one of my favorite movies

Making Sense of The "O.K. Corral" Gunfight
Mr. Hickey has written an interesting and information filled account of the most famous event in the history of the American West. While I don't agree with all his theories, I have to commend him on a thorough (some may say too thorough) take on the shootout behind the O.K. Corral. He gives you a shot by shot account of his take on what happened. Even if you don't agree with his conclusions, there is enough information to draw your own. The illustrations are excellent, also. All in all, a great read for anyone as fascinated as I am about this "disagreement" on the streets of Tombstone.

Diadem from the stars

disapointing after Skeen
There was too much sex. Having said that, there were passages that took too long. In addition, with the Diadem she becomes too powerfull. All in all it was a burden to finish.

Okay book and a must read for Jo Clayton fans.
This book, which starts the Diadem series, develops really slowly (think classic novel as opposed to an action packed sci-fi film). There are also several scenes at the start that seem to come from nowhere (some do make sense later in the book). However, Jo Clayton did do a good job of getting the reader involved with the character (it doesn't hurt that she's a really sexy fem with lots of power). Clayton also did a nice blend of futuristic space themes with primitive ideas of elemental magic (this becomes even more apparent in the later parts of the series). Finally, the Diadem is just really cool (I'd like to have one of my own someday).

The flagship of a lengthy saga...
"Diadem from the Stars" kicks off Clayton's mammoth nine-book (with a follow-up trilogy which picks up where the original series, or what's left of it, leaves off) Diadem series. This book, which (to be quite honest) is mainly exposition, introduces us to the herione of the saga, Aleytys, who was orphaned by her spacefaring mother on a barbarian world. The book concerns her discovering her past and her powers, and her escape from the tribe who fears and resents her. In the course of her travels to find a way offworld to her home planet, she comes across the diadem, an alien artefact which, when she dons it, implants itself permamently into her skull and endows her with mysterious and fearful powers. The story unfolds in a manner similar to Tanith Lee's classic "The Birthgrave", but not as moody and bombastic. I quite enjoyed Clayton's writing style, and look forward to reading more of her work.
