Don't waste your time or money
This is by far the worst book ever written about Sting. Just by reading it you can tell that the author does not like Sting at all. Sting himself even said the book was (bad)and that none of it is true. So if you are a Sting fan or just want to learn more about the man, don't buy this book, get the "all this time" dvd and you can actually see what of person he is.
A Waste Of A Good Tree
This is possibly the first attempt to write a 'definitive' biography of Sting, and in our view it fails spectacularly. Borrowing extensively from previous books - especially Sutcliffe and Fielder's "L'Historia Bandido" - and press cuttings the book is littered throughout with careless errors, and dwells, tabloid fashion, on the more sensationalist and 'media friendly' issues such as drugs, his sex life, and his involvement in the rainforest. In an 'exclusive' interview he gave to the Daily Express newspaper at the time of the book's release, Sting said - "I have led a pretty wild life, but none of it's in the book". He gave a more succinct review on Virgin radio when he said that the book was "crap". We don't disagree - it was fun to read at the time because it is about Sting, but it left you feeling a guilty and a little queasy afterwards.
Great for a first timer!
I had never had the opportunity to read any type of in depth articles or biographies about the life of Gordon Sumner prior to this biography. For this reason, I am rating this book with 5 stars. If you've been hungry for something for quite a few years, and you've finally been given a small taste of it, it is going to be quite satisfying. This small piece of such a great mans life was certainly satisfying for me.

Decent
This book is decent. Every chapter is a different story of girls that are held captive around the world. Each chapter is fairly short (10 - 20 pages) and only gives a quick version and not many details. This book is alright but almost reads like a book report.
Interesting, but lacking in depth
Each chapter is a different story of modern slavery, mostly in the civilized world, concentrating on Britain and the US. However, many chapters are only half a dozen pages long; the reader is left with many questions. Some of these cases are extremely interesting and should be books in their own rights.

horribly written, repetitive, sensationalistic
this book is, as might be expected, terribly written and totally dull, and of course it doesn't even begin to probe how horrific or really disturbing this crime in particular was, but it does have some info in it. i heard about this slaying in 1997 and saw the novel in a mall bookstore, and bought it. there is something about this crime--three predatory, evil, psychopathic monsters luring a mischevious but basically innocent young girl into the woods to murder, rape, and torture her--that, to put it mildly, makes one despair. i am theoretically against the death penalty, but this case particular i have to admit that i would applaud the execution of these three genetic wastes. he tries to make the teenager who confessed into some sad hero because he came forward and admitting to stabbing a helpless girl to death. wow. what a prince. maybe we should give him a kiss, a hug, and a gold star. i sympathize with alienated and disaffected teenagers, having been one myself, but this is simply a matter of evil. even at my angriest and most decadent, and this is true not only of me but of my more dissenting and rebellious friends in high school, would i have been capable of anything like this. strap them in the chair, and if you can get away with it, put em on the rack.
Good story yet poorly written and poorly organized.
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book. The reason I enjoyed this book was because of the subject matter and the facts that I learned about the murder. The writing style was not complex at all, and much of the book seems to be repeated at least a few times. While I was reading it, I felt like I would get the same information much quicker if I were to read a one page outline of the information. Do not read this book for the writing style, but if you're interested in the subject matter, it is a quick read and fairly interesting.
Great!
I don't see why everyone always has to critize books expecially when it is a true life story about a young girl who died not knowing she was going to. (even if the book lacked information) I can diffenitly say that this book is my favorite. Its a book that keeps you wanting to read it all the way through, with out stopping. I recommened this book to anyone who cares about what goes on in this world. I am deeply sorry for Elyse's family. I am glad those bastards got the sentence they deserved.

Is there such a thing as case reasearch?
As one of the many forensic investigators involved in the crime scenes and apprehension of Resendiz-Ramirez I find this book is just a rehash of news articles and watered-down at that. Apparently, little or no research went into this book nor does it appear that authorities that were involved in the case(s) attributed to Angel were even considered.
Full of Lies
This book is inaccurate and not worth the paper it's printed on. The author was just trying to make a quick buck and didn't bother finding a lot of facts in the process.
Great Book
I really liked this book. It told me a lot of infomation that you couldn't find in the news during the killing spree. Overall it was a great book!

Irresponsible/intermittant camp value
The author has falsified a life for Andrew Cunanan--a life mostly unsubstantiated by any facts. The bombastic writing seems intended to shock--but is there anyone who's going to read this who is as shocked (and unknowledgeable) about gays as Wensley Clarkson? His ham-fistedness is amusing at times in its over-the-top, 1950s style moralism and it's pathetic efforts to shock. To wit, here's Clarkson on "San Francisco's gay population": "The city overflowed with nightlife in the early 1990s. But it was a labyrinthine in the extreme, with a very serious sadomasochistic community, a body piercing epidemic, and a lot more besides." Also, his assumption that Cunanan was HIV-positive has been proven false by the twice-leaked autopsy report. (The rumor was begun by an unscupulous San Diego AIDS counselor. Fie on him.)
Quick Synopsis Of A Killing Spree
This books chronicled the life and crime spree by Andrew Cunanan 1997. Motives and triggers were investigated by interviews with family and friends to explore what may have drove this person to commit these truly sick crimes. Cunanan's life was further looked into, covering his above average intelligence, Constant chameleon-like appearance changes and desire for the "high life." He was a habitual liar who told many different people many different things. It is very likely that a major precipitating factor to this killing spree was that Cunanan thought he was HIV Positive. However, this is now disputed as false that he ever though he was hiv positive. Angered at his presumed fate he turned against the world and people. An autopsy on him after he took his own life revealed he was negative. One can read this book quickly.
The author would describe what Cunanan would do, and what he would think, while he was all by himself. Does this author have ESP, or has he been channeling with Cunanan. Perhaps he hired a psychic. This is a book that had to be thrown out as quickly as possible after the media hype to cash in on it. So take if for what it is: synopses of a killing Spree that needed more depth.
A hurriedly put-together book to cash in on the frenzy.
This book was the only book on Cunanan for a time. It reads like a hurriedly put-together book to cash in on the Cunanan frenzy created after the murder of Gianni Versace. I wondered how the author was able to get into Cunanan's head during his killing spree, and this tended to fictionalize the book. A more in-depth book on the Cunanan case is needed in order for the reader to get a better understanding of it.

Wet Blanket
This sort of combination of gossip and innuendo mixed with a few facts would be harmless except that it really hurts people. The real person who is the subject of one chapter has recently run across a copy & is agonizing over the vicious potrayal of her in the book. She's also angry at the fellow inmate who agreed to talk to Ms. "Wensley Clarkson" and upset that people will read it and believe it.
I told her that no one whose opinion she cares about will read this book. I also explained that this book is a descendent of those pulp magazines like TRUE CONFESSIONS and TRUE CRIME that most of literate society has outgrown.
I suppose there are still some people who find this sort of thing entertaining, but it's too bad.
Suitable Only For Starting A Fire
If you're ever trapped in the woods, you could use this badly written tripe to start a fire. That's all it's good for. Trust me: DON'T BUY IT.
