This book is Swell.
I loved this book, i think that it is my favourite book i ever read. it really brings the beothuck tribes to life, and tells well of how they lived. Also, i liked the idea of Joan Clark including flashbacks to show how the Viking Thrand's(or Wobee) family, and people, lived. i recomend this book to anybody who likes adventure novels.

Medical and Genetic Aspects of Purebred Dogs
Excellent book! I am a veterinarian and I often get questions regarding specific breeds and the problems they can have. This book is indexed by breed, not disease, which makes it easy to use. In addition, the problems of the breed are easy to see within the text. An excellent resource for veterinarians, breeders, and anyone who is considering purchasing a purebred dog.

A feminist explorer
Extremely well-written, using vocabulary evoking the period, the author takes an event with little historical documentation and creates a story that is both plausible and a little fantastic. There is a good feeling for daily life, the difficulty of living with the elements, climate and struggle to survive. Characters are well developed if not entirely believable. I found the ending quite good, bringing all the pieces to their possible historical end.

A fantastic tale of an age near lost in the mists of time...
This book is very involving. It details the third expedition to Vinland (Newfoundland- north America ot the Geographically challenged) by Freydis Eiriksdottir, bastard child of Erik the Red, and half-sister to Leif Eriksson. It's a fantastic tale, showing how women lived some 11 centuries ago, a detailed examination of events leading to a disasterous, bloody climax. (the plot. NOt the book. The book is great) Buy it!!!

A beautiful book full of magic
This was a beautiful book that portrayed a very complex character. Aurora is found as a baby wrapped in a basket covered by a rubber sheet tied to an upturned chair which is floating on an ice slab in the Artic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland. It is only a few days after the Titanic disaster but nobody is looking for this baby and from the beginning everything about her seems unusual. She has pale skin and almost white hair and she always feels cool. She likes to wander by herself and she has a very unusual connection with animals which leads the locals to think that maybe she was left by faeries. I think I liked this book because although it paints this very ethereal picture of Aurora as a baby and as a child she has a very human marriage and a complex relationship with her children that is portrayed in a believable way. You do not always like Aurora's decisions and the book has its share of heartbreak but I guarantee you will feel you've encountered a genuine and unique story that will stay with you long after you've finished the book.

beautiful, involving saga
This is a beautifully-written book, providing a strong setting and feeling of Newfoundland, where it is mainly set. The timeline of the book follows the same as the life of Aurora, an ethereal spirit who was discovered as a baby floating on an ice slab in middle of the Atlantic ocean, her birthplace and story up until that point a mystery to all. From that point on, we come to know her, the members of her complex but very human family, and ultimately, to feel a part of the family and land. Highly recommended.

Knowlege is Power
This particular work is flowing with useable and believable knowlege! You don't have to be a rocket-scientist to comprehend it, but you must have a passion for the deep. This book takes you on a mind-boggling trail as you see how your reactions are all linked to a substantiated incident. Take for instance the bell theory that is mentioned in the very first paragraph. Your mind is triggerd and tricked so easily! I highly recommend this work in its entirity. It soaks into your thought pattern!

very nice pictures
This book tells its stories mostly through pictures of the types of people you are likely to encounter in the city of Baltimore. Being a recent convert to the charm of Baltimore, I really enjoyed the photographs and appreciated the way they conveyed the sense of community that you can find in the inner city if you look for it.
