i can't believe i found this
in second grade, we had a book cart set up in the corner of the room. i think maybe i was the only person who knew about Ruth Chew (in my classroom)as i am certain if anyone else read her stories, they would have talked about them, or acted strangely. i'm not saying these books are strange in a bad way, but they are, if i remember correctly, magical....kind of like "the chocolate touch," but better... i read ruth chew books until they were all gone, and i plan to get copies for what will happen in ten, twenty years when i have a kid, and hopefully she will love reading these books as much as i did. I don't know if Ruth is still alive, but anyhow, she kind of sculpted the beginning of my life. she gave me a place to live inside, for awhile there.

Wednesday Witch/Childhood Fantasies
Wednesday Witch is an extraordinary fantasy trip about a girl who befriends a cranky witch who has managed to shrink herself. As a child I would always daydream about the funny episodes in this book and how much fun would it be to actually have a vacuum cleaner named "james"that would take me by air wherever I wanted to go. This book is now out of print, however if yourchildren like to read or you are encouraging your child to read, this book is a treasure and my favorite all time childrens book.

The Wednnesday Witch: A Review
While this book is now out of print, it is worthwhile doing a bit of legwork and try to track down a copy. Elementary school children (and very often their parents) enjoy the adventures that the female protagonist manages to get herself mixed up in. A talking cat named Cinders, magic scissors that minimize everyone and everything, a flying vacuum cleaner and a dollhouse all combine to make this novel a fun read for both male and female children.

A Little Bit of Magic
It is sad to see this book is out of print as well as her other books. I read Ruth Chew books as a child in grade school and absolutely loved them. This is a humorous book about a witch that loses her cat and vacuum cleaner (which she flies around on)to a young girl. The adventures the girl has and how she settles, her missing things with the witch. A truly enjoyable book with illustrations here and there through out also done by author. Now where is my vaccum cleaner???....I need to go to the store.

Second-Hand Magic
I just finshed reading one of the best books ever by Ruth Chew. Its about a kite. One day two kids found a kite shaped liked a bird. They thought it was different. They took it home to show their dad. It flew high in the air and really fast.

Sky High Ride
I gave Second Hand Magic a 5 star rating, because it's an adventure ride all the way. Your heart will be beating when Paul and Caroline take a sky high ride on a kite named Bird. This kite has magic powers that leads Paul and Caroline to take a ride in the park. Ruth Chew leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat. What will happen next?

Second-Hand Magic
Wow! What a great book! It was very creative. I liked the characters Paul, Caroline, and Clement Ellsworth. The author and illustrator, Ruth Chew, did a very nice job with the pictures and telling the story. Her imagination was very nice. The kite was the best part, because it wasn't like any other kite.If you read this book you will enjoy it.

This book is funny
This book was a great book that I read. What made the book great was that it was mostly about sharks and I love sharks.

This book inspired my lifelong fascination with sharks.
I am an educator at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I teach about sharks and the marine environment because I think education is the best conservation tactic we have. My lifelong fascination with sharks and the ocean all began with this book. Eugenie Clark was an inspiration. This book did a marvelous job of conveying Dr. Clark's enthusiam and awe for not just sharks but for science. This book changed my life.

Before Harry Potter, there was Ruth Chew!
These are wonderful children's books. I remember ordering them in second grade when you could order books in class. My first shopping experience! Full of magic and strong role models for children. This and all of Ms. Chew's other books are inspiring and will spark the imagination of children who read them. I will be re-collecting them for my children.

The Witch At the Window
The Witch At the Window is a great book! Two children discover a hollow tree and investigate with the help of some clothesline. They find a witch's home down in the depths of the tree, and end up taking the witch's big wooden spoon to wind the clothesline up with. In the meantime, the witch is flying around after having changed herself into a sparrow. She then has to find out who has her wooden spoon to change herself back! It sounds weird, but it's really a fun book. It has been one of my favourites since childhood.

Big talk, no action
These guys are lengends in their own minds but do very little to actually help you. Of course, for 33% they will write letters that threaten like this book. OOOOOHHHHH, I'm not scared!

This is a great little book that could save your life.
I've read this book cover to cover, and it is both highly informative and easy to digest. Shernoff shows why he is preeminent in his field as a consumer lawyer, and his book is designed to help people avoid the necessity of going to court. Reading this book could save your life.

Good presentation of consumer issues in claims processing
Ralph Nader's Foward to this book is a well written, concise presentation of insurance companies evolution from "fiduciaries" to "profit centers". It describes the ineffectiveness of state insurance regulatory agencies and how the lobbying power of the industry managed to secure legislation that circumvented the US Supreme Court ruling that the industry was an interstate business subject to federal regulation. The remainder of the book contains simple, clear explanations of how the claims process works and suggestions for dealing with that process. There are also descriptions of the ordeals that claimants endure when "bad faith" practices of insurance companies force legitimate claims into litigation.
