A Sore Father
From reading this book, and being a firm believer of Jehovah Witnesses it sounds like to me that this is just a sore priest that has a grudge against the witnesses. I say that this is all a bunch of chatholic propaganda. If you don't want Jehovah's Witnesses to come by, just tell them to, if you want information, I'm sure that they would be happy to tell you. This priest or so called "father" needs to step back and look where he is really coming from.

When the dorbell rings, do your part!
This is a great way for Catholics to be able to discuss with their Jehovah Witness brothers and sisters the teachings that we believe and hold true. If we are to live our faith, we must be able to share our faith and answer challenges to our faith. This is a great tool to help us on the way.

Be Prepared
Jehovah's Witnesses may go away if you ask them to, but is that really what you want? The answer for many of is 'yes', but for those of us that would like to share out faith with others, this is an great guide. This text will show you how to defend the one true church established by Jesus Christ. If we truly believe in the life everlasting, we must try to spread the word to all of other brothers and sisters.

Tinitarians shoot themselves in foot.
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses I was understandably curious about what this booklet had to say on trying to prove the Trinity. This booklet was written as an answer to our booklet "Should you Believe in the Trinity?" which uses the bible to prove that the bible doesn't teach the Trinity. We believe that the bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the son of his father Jehovah god. That he was created by his father as a separate being with his own free will and that his father is greater than he is. All of these points are supported in scripture. The Trinity on the other hand is supported by church creed and tradition. The authors in their booklet however attempt to prove the trinity as a bible based doctrine. Unfortunately they spend most of their time bashing our trinity booklet rather than using the bible to make their point. (on page 2 they even have a picture of our booklet, the only picture they have.) Which they describe as "packed with false arguments, deliberate misquotations and distorted Scriptures." they spend so much time on making such attacks, they leave little space for actually defending the Trinity. Their booklet is divided in three parts; faulty reasoning, misuse of the early church fathers and misinterpretation of scared scripture. All three parts are referring to our booklet on the Trinity, but could also be taken as self descriptive too. The authors do not present a fair impartial review of the issue, but instead launch a very biased and hateful attack on Jehovah's Witnesses with statements like, "Jehovah's Witness try to pass themselves off as Christians." The writing style makes one wonder if the authors miss the 'good old days' of the inquisition and crusade. I got the feeling at times the authors would rather be making their points with a hot poker than with words. They also spend a great deal of time attacking our bible translation, the New World Translation, with all sorts of ridiculous accusations like it has never been reviewed by other bible scholars. Like we could print and distribute tens of millions of copies of the NWT world wide without any bible scholars looking at it. Here on Amazon as a matter of a fact, there is a fine book by a bible scholar who I understand rates the NWT very favorably. ( Rolf. Furuli "The Role of Theology and Bias in Bible Translation: With a special look at the New World Translation of Jehovah's Witnesses" ) Another particularly outlandish claim was that the authors stated that our belief that Jesus Christ in heaven is also known as the archangel Michael, is plucked out of thin air, that we have no scriptural support for this belief. When saying this they use two quotes from a page in our Reasoning From the Scriptures book, where it states that we believe the two are one in the same. The outlandish part is that on that same page, in-between where the two quotes are taken from, is a number of cited scriptures supporting our viewpoint. Support which the authors claim doesn't exist. Making false accusations is one thing, but making false accusations when you know they are not true is another, it is slander. Which is why if you are looking for a publication to use for a discussion when we call at your door, I wouldn't recommend this booklet. We carry the Reasoning book in our book bags to find answers in the bible for different topics while out going door to door. So when this booklet makes its claim about the archangel, the witness at your door will naturally look it up in the Reasoning book and is bound to notice where the quotes are taken from with the scriptures supporting our view right in the middle. At this point in the discussion you are not going to have a leg to stand on. The derogatory language used in this booklet combined with a very limited and poorly done attempted scriptural defense of the trinity, will hurt rather than help any one engaged in a discussion trying to defend the trinity. If you want an impartial and scriptural detailed examination of whether the bible teaches the trinity or not. I would recommend the booklet that this booklet was written in a failed effort to disprove. Check it out for yourself. Most of the scriptural points raised in our booklet are not even addressed in this booklet, and perhaps that is because the authors had no answers which is why they resorted to gutter ball tactics.

Great Study Guide
A wonderful book from a wonderful series. Several people from my church have been using this series of books in our faith sharing group to help us become better prepared to defend our faith. As a lay Catholic I found this an invaluable tool, especially when my doorbell rings on Saturday morning. This book is only one in the series. For those who do not want to read 200+ page long books, attend regular classes, or research extensively on the subject, this is a quick way to find out the basics of the defense.

Check this book out, Catholics, and know your faith!

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!! IT HAS A DEFECTIVE CD...
don't buy this book 'cause the 70-216 has a defective CD in it and the publisher won't replace it 'cause they haven't made a working version yet and if you lost your receipt and not send your copy to them, they won't send you the working version when it done.

also this is what i got from the support of the publisher:

"Thanks for the inquiry. We apologize for the installation problems with the E-Book programs on the Sybex Interface of the CD. This unfortunate error wasn't discovered until after the CD had been sent to the CD replicator."

Great book for students and adult learners!
I bought Sybex MCSA Core few months ago and after reading each book only once I passed all my certifications. I didn't have nay problems with defective CD's and recomend these books for anyone interested in getting certified in the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.

Bad Enough to Make me Write a Review
I'll start by saying that I did pass the test, so it's apparent that this isn't just sour grapes. But, having passed the test, I can assure you that, for the most part, nothing in this book applied. The labs are fine, but they just take you through one or two canned scenarios per subject, and nothing in the book or the labs actually contributes to your understanding of the subject matter.

I know that the point isn't to be a paper MCSE. You need experience to pass the test. The study guide should be either a starting point that gives you the theory so you can implement it and experience it, or it should be the reference that fills in the gaps in your existing experience. This book is neither.

Sure, this is pretty late for a review of this book. If you are just now buying a book to prepare for this test, you have problems. However, I am still fairly upset with the lack of depth to this book, and I would like Sybex to know about it.

In most cases, what I would consider crucial topics are only covered in the slightest detail. In fairness, the two chapters on TCP/IP and RRAS were fairly decent. There was a good amount of explanation as to WHY to configure things a certain way rather than just HOW.

Plusses: Not very many errors at all. Errors in previous Sybex books were frustrating, so it's nice to see this go.
Minuses: Too many bulleted lists and tables, not enough good meat. Reminds me more of a Test Success book than a Study Guide.

Average...
I've completed the MSCE NT4.0 exams using Sybex and did well in all my exams. I've come to expect high standards from Sybex in their study guides but this one doesn't meet them. Don't get me wrong, all of the information needed is covered but it makes to many assumptions as to what you currently know about W2k by not going into depth on many things. I've found my self refering to other books to fill in the blanks.

This book will help you to pass the Accelerated Exam but I don't believe it will do it by itself. You will need to augment your studies with other materials. I'd recommend using Mastering Windows 2000 Server and Mastering Active Directory. Both of these books have been extremely usefull in filling in the blanks.

On a positive note, there are MANY hands on excersises to follow.

Highly Recommended
Just passed This exam yesterday. I used this guide for study and the Exam Notes to refresh my efforts prior to the exam. This book is recommended for anyone who is current in their NT4 MCSE skill sets. Troubleshooting issues like DNS, permissions, IP, etc. all have their roots in NT4 so the book may not offer indepth troubleshooting sections. Having passed the exam, I can tell for your sure...Your NT4 troubleshooting skills will get you through. What is most important is applying those skills to the new features of Win2K DDNS, RIS, NAT, RRAS, GPO, Active Directory and other new features. They Sybex guide covers them well and the included exercises in the PDF on CD really bring home the points even for those of us who have been working with Win2k from its beta release but haven't yet implemented all of its various features sets yet. Microsoft does not waste your time with trick questions on this exam about obscure corners of the OS not covered in study guides or used in the field as we may have seen in NT4 exam. The Window2000 Accelerated exam will definitely test your attention to detail (clever scenarios but no tricks) however the exam fairly tests your knowledge in areas you should know about to implement Win2K effective and prove your real world experience with this OS. Take nothing for granted, take your NT4 experience, your Win2K hands-on, and THIS Sybex guide and go pass this exam. I highly recommend the companion Exam Notes as it takes all the objectives covered in the Study Guide and neatly organizes them by individual exams: Win2k Pro, Win2k Server, Win2k AD Admin, and Win2K Net Infrastructure Admin. I'm proof the exam can be successfully passed. The exams are not as overwhelming as first thought but they are definitely not a peace a cake. Sybex will get you there.

Exams are a money making sham. But the book is useful.
Exams are a way to make "money for nothing and checks for free." This book is barely discernable from the NT books and I am sure the XP will not be long off. I did not buy it for the exam as People that pass exams only show that they can remember questions. However windows 2000 seems to be with us for a while and this book does a good job of pointing out problems before they happen allowing for a preventive plan. Networking is networking is networking However Windows 2000 is not intuitive and is convoluted. So without this or a similar book your goose is cooked.

The book has 14 chapters and an appendix. In them they seem to take you from ground zero to an administrator with a few diagrams and a few pictures. Most of the contents seem to be written by someone who already knows the subject well enough to leave out what he thinks you should already know.

As stated before one reason for using this book is to cut through the convolution. On a UNIX based host the use of DHCP is as simple as filling out a form with base information all in one location. This book takes 20 pages to describe where and how to use DHCP as if it was a separate process than the operating system.

There are better books but this book is better than not.

The Hardest 2000 Core Exam
Being an NT MCSE+I and MCDBA and having passed this exam on the first try, I can safely say that you have a challenge on your hands. If you are an aspiring MCSE, note that you do not get major TCP/IP training in this manual. Previously, TCP/IP was an exam by itself and to cover all of it as a minor topic for this exam is a huge undertaking. I suggest covering TCP/IP on your own with a separate manual after the exam. Refer to a separate source (even the older NT manuals are still relevant for TCP/IP) such as the Resource Kit for 2000.

You really need to know RIS, RRAS, DHCP, WINS, and DNS extremely well. Concentrate on the newer features of 2000 over NT as a general rule.

I prefer to have too much information rather than too little. It makes for a good reference book later on and adds value to your purchase. This manual goes into too much depth on Certificate Services and VPN setups for the exam. Otherwise, this book has everything in it. I used Transcenders and the questions I missed had the answers in this book. It has a wide subject matter and as a result the exam will be hard due to the amount you need to cover, and not really the difficulty of any single topic. The book has Sybex's usual excellent tools such as prep exams and simulation demos for most chapters. This will greatly assist your studies.

For all of your efforts, you will KNOW Windows 2000 Server by the time you are finished. The other books do not really give you the networking knowledge you need to really harness the new 2000 features. Give yourself a little extra time and you should come through well. Good luck.

Passed the exam
Using this book and the Virtul Lab they sell I was able to pass the exam. I also briefly looked through a friends' Transcender. This, though, was the toughest MCSE exam for me. Know DHCP, WINS, and DNS well. While it's true that the author gets a bit verbose at times, I, like several reviewers below, like the fact that such depth was given to the topics. The exam is hard and you need to work hard to pass it. Don't expect it to be a breeze. Anyhow, the book did the trick for me.

how pathetic
As an atheist I thought I would order this book for a laugh. It certainly provided me with that.

It is both pathetically simplistic and misleading. The "proofs" for god's existence have all been thoroughly refuted, and their logical inconsistencies exposed, yet here they are again. Evolutionary theory is completely misrepresented, either from ignorance or intention, by repeatedly referring to it as a purely chaotic and random process. This, of course, neglects to mention the power of natural selection as a non-random mechanism.

The authors attempt to answer the "problem of evil" was especially hilarious. He offers the "gift of free will," and our misuse of it, as an explanation for evil in the world, which says nothing about natural disasters, plagues, parasites, cancers, etc. The best part was his conclusion "On the other hand, some suffering, especially the suffering of innocents such as infants, raises difficulties that we cannot pretend to answer." Wow . . . what a compelling defense of an all-benevolent God and the seeming inconsistencies in our suffering filled world.

All in all this book is great fun and blast to read. An amazingly lame effort. Enjoy!

Not very good
A friend of mine gave me this book when he found out I was an atheist. The book may give "warm fuzzies" to already established christians, but if a christian thinks he can use the arguments presented in this book against an educated atheist then he's wrong. The book is poorly written and seems to bounce around without giving any definitive proof of anything. As an atheist, I've read much better books defending the faith.

A Good Effort
I did not find the arguments in this little book to be much use to me, although perhaps others will. There is not enough information on any of the topics to really substantiate the points that the authors make. In fact, I think that if someone tried to use this book as a primary tool in a conversation with an intelligent and well-educated New Ager or atheist, he would be pretty much shredded. On the other hand, the type size was nice and big.
