Good bood, but only if...
You're a Home Inspector or simply in search of picture after picture with little other detail other than technical information. If you are looking for advice on how to repair or fix items, DO NOT BUY this or other Carson Dunlop books in this series, or the - The Illustrated Home. Carson Dunlop is a firm out of Canada that does produce good materials for Home Inspectors, but these are not "how to" manuals, nor are these books good for the average home owner.Kind of sad when people write misleading reviews to simply increase sales. On the positive - DO BUY this book if you are simply looking for very detailed technical information.

Part of the "Illustrated Home" series
With over 500 illustrations, "Structure, Roofing and the Exterior" shows you exactly what the finished job should look like.

Alan Carson and Robert Dunlop prove in this easy-to-use book that pictures really are worth a thousand words. Through clearly detailed illustrations Carson and Dunlop walk you through your home, showing you just what your repairs and renovations should look like, inside and out. This book is an excellent tool for the new home owner or home inspector, showing you which pitfalls to avoid and what to look for when searching for potential problems in the structure, roof or exteriorof your or your client's home.

Pressure Vessels: The ASME Code Simplified
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 November, 1992)
Authors: Robert Chuse and Bryce E. Carson
Amazon base price: $69.95
Used price: $57.70

Average review score:

Way too simplified!
This provides a broad overview of the ASME Code pertaining to boilers, process vessels and DOT vessels. It could be useful to a plant engineer needing an overview for code vessel management, but falls short for the engineer involved in the design of pressure vessels.

Get's you into the ballpark quickly
I own the 1977...5th edition, this book quickly allows a
novice to gain a fairly comprehensive grasp of the subject.
After only a few hours of reading an engineer, designer or
draftsperson can generate an informative deduction.
The book accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do,
and that is simplify a very complicated and costly code.

Heating and Air Conditioning
I try to know how to do this application to buy the book on shopping but something I don't understand if my card was right if anything happen I don't know if it safe to used my credit card and I hope you with send me the book if my card alright

Nice pictures, that is about it.
If you just want to look at every single heating method available, then this book is for you. If you want some help repairing a problem, or adding ducting, this is not the book for you. All it has is many many pictures of various systems.

Good book, but only if...
You're a Home Inspector or simply in search of picture after picture with little other detail other than technical information. If you are looking for advice on how to repair or fix items, DO NOT BUY this or other Carson Dunlop books in this series - The Illustrated Home. Carson Dunlop is a firm out of Canada that does produce good materials for Home Inspectors, but these are not "how to" manuals, nor are these books good for the average home owner. The reviewer g_clarke is, in my view, clearly associated with Carson Dunlop and his or her review should be ignored - check out his/her other reviews, they are worded exactly the same for each book in this series. Kind of sad when people write misleading reviews to simply increase sales. On the positive - DO BUY this book if you are simply looking for very detailed technical information.

Careers in Healthcare Management: How to Find Your Path and Follow It
Published in Paperback by Health Administration Press (01 January, 2002)
Authors: Cynthia Carter Haddock, Robert C. Chapman, Robert A. McLean, and Carson F. Dye
Amazon base price: $46.00
Used price: $35.00
Buy one from zShops for: $36.80
Average review score:

Disappointing
Only one fifth of the book is written by the authors, and this part of the book is very useful, and contains good advice.

The rest of the book contains profiles of professionals in healthcare administration. Most of these professionals are in very senior positions in the industry, and talk about the path they took to get there.

Before reading this book, my impression of professionals in the healthcare industry was that they are generally noble people who care about the well being of fellow humans. However, after reading the profiles in this book, I get the impression that these people are just as ruthless, career oriented, and money driven as people in any other profession.

Starts of good, then looses focus
The first part (which is only one-fifth of the book), is concise, informative, and very helpful.

The second part (which is the rest of the book), contains profiles of healthcare managers. These profiles are authored by the managers themselves. The book states that the profiles are diverse in every way, and are therefore truly representative of careers in healthcare management. But almost all the profiles are of people in senior level management positions, and the majority are of Vice Presidents and Presidents/CEOs.

A few of the contributors have gone to the trouble of giving good career advice.

However, the vast majority have taken up most of the space to tell us about the impressive job titles they have held, and the associations they belong to. Towards the end of their profiles, they have dedicated hardly a sentence or two to giving advice, which is mostly common sense (such as getting proper education, finding a mentor, volunteering, etc).

Looking at the profiles of these people, it is not surprising to note that most of them ended up either as VPs or Presidents/CEOs, given that most of them graduated from the top ranking universities in the country.

So if you have graduated (or expect to) from an Ivy League school, you stand a good chance of following the career path of one of the people in the profiles. But this book is definitely not a very useful guide for the rest of us.
