Carreyed it with me for over a month...
it was my bible. After "Truman" I was starved for information and this book was just the thing (at least up to 1995, and of course I've preordered the update). Although I hadn't known Mr. Carrey before "Truman", I felt I could really get into the spirit! All the same, I doubt it can even try to do his rather complex personality full justice. I think one way or the other he's still got everbody fooled...and a book is far too static a medium for such a hearttouchingly brilliant changeling!

The best JC information book available!!
"The Jim Carrey Scrapbook" is my favorite JC information resource!! Contained are tons of pictures, bio info, and more. It's my favorite JC information book!!!

If you like good writing . . .
Then find another book. Mr. Knelman seems incapable of painting his prose anything but purple. I couldn't get past the first chapter. There's a good book about Mr. Carrey waiting to be written; but this isn't it.

The Review
I am a big Jim Carrey Fan and reading this book I realized I didn't know as much about him as I thought i did. This biography was well written and very detailed, you get to know Jim as you go through the book, from his succeses, his failures, his life as a celebrity. you also get to know how much he struggled over the years and how hard it was for him and just how hard it is to become a comedian. I definitley reccomend redaing htis book, it is good from the minute you open and close it from cover to cover.

The REAL Jim Carrey
For anyone who thinks Jim Carrey led a charmed life before getting where he is today, this book is a definite read. It opens a lot of doors into understanding his acting style, why he does comedy and why he is an actor.....he lives for attention and approval, and all his fans are happy to give that to him. He came from the school of REAL hard knocks. This makes me admire him all the more for perserving in the face of multiple adversities and giving us the performances we love to watch over and over. My personal favorite of all is The Truman Show, and the Majestic is right up there too. Catching up on his old films after reading this book, and I can see where he was coming from in his life at the time. The author did a tremendous job of writing this bio and I truly thank him for shedding light on someone I thought was "just another pretty face"....a wonderful bio on Mr. Carrey. I hope he gives some thought to bringing it up to date at some point. Jim Carrey I salute you for your wonderful acting. Great book; simply great.

Andy Kaufman Revealed!: Best Friend Tells All
Published in Digital by Little Brown ()
Authors: Bob Zmuda, Jim Carrey, and Matthew Scott Hansen
Amazon base price: $9.95
Average review score:

This is probably the greatest book I have ever read.
At first Andy Kaufman was just an odd little man to me. I had been some what interested in him. But then I was in a book store and I look over my shoulder to a book. A book about Andy Kaufman. I though it might be good so I bought it. I read this with great interest. Ever page learning more and more about this genious. It was the first book to make me hold back tears as I read the final chapters. It is a very funny book as well. Bob Zmuda does a wonderful job of telling his stories. He also tells the truth of what was really happening between Jerry Lawler and Andy. As well as the truth about Tony Clifton. It also gives us an inside look at the real Andy. And the friendship between Andy and his best friend Bob Zmuda. What he was really like. I was actually a little bit sad when I finished it. I just wanted more. I wanted to know more about Andy. After reading this I became extremly interested in Andy Kaufman. I want to know everything now. This is I think the best book I have ever read. A great book about a great preformer. I don't want to call him a comedian because he didn't like being called that. We will never have anyone like Andy Kaufman again. But his legacy will live on. Any of you who have the smallest interest in Andy Kaufman read this book. Learn more about the man, the the misunderstanding, the legend, that is Andy Kaufman.

The pages almost turned themselves -- WHAT A GREAT READ!!
I was absolutely captivated by this book! The pages almost literally turned themselves. Thank the entertainment gods that someone as erudite and articulate as Bob Zmuda crossed Andy Kaufman's path so that he could document the course of the Kaufman tornado and all of the "carnage" left in its wake.

Zmuda does an excellent job of documenting Andy's rise to reluctant sit-com star and the subsequent metamorphasis to Tony Clifton and beyond. It's impossible to even scratch the surface on the anecdotes Zmuda presents as evidence of Kaufman's genius, his lunacy and his ultimate (or seeming) demise.

While the book does appear to be somewhat self-serving at times for Zmuda, who cares? Zmuda obviously paid his dues. He spent almost his entire career in the shadow of the great Andy Kaufman and he is the only person on the planet who can tell this story. Not even Andy's parents would have been able to approximate the depth and breadth of this story. Zmuda can be forgiven for taking the credit for much of Kaufman's genius.

But, the book is truly not about that. It's more about how they grew together as comic and writer, not how Bob Zmuda made Andy Kaufman a star. Either one without the other probably would not have been half of what they were together. They FED off of each other and that is what makes this book so interesting. Zmuda pulls no punches.

He filled his book with page-turning story after story about Kaufman's (and, yes, HIS) antics as they honed their comedic talents. It's impossible to tell one person's story without telling the other. They were becoming the same person -- and, in fact DID become the same person for a brief period of time (read the book and you'll know what I mean).

Buy this book and sit down and read it from cover-to-cover. You won't have a problem with that even if you've never read a book in one sitting.

Most insightful work on Andy Kaufman
Bob Zmuda portrays his late friend with great insight. While the film "Man on the Moon" merely displayed Andy Kaufman's offbeat brand of humor and unusual behavior, Bob Zmuda goes further and deeper by telling us why Andy felt motivated to entertain and/or baffle his audience. The big money film production gave us a one-dimensional view of Andy Kaufman. I highly recommend you shell out your money for this book instead; the biography is much more fascinating than the film. The story of Kaufman and Zmuda's friendship is moving, and very well told. Zmuda avoids putting his pal on a pedestal; he describes Kaufman's creative strengths, but also explores his susceptibility in believing many "new age" theories. This book is a great biography, even if you're not a fan of Andy Kaufman.

"Alrighty Then".......
I don't think I've ever laughed sp hard in a movie theater before in my life. That's something that I just don't do much of. This movie changed that. Now, this kind of comedy is an acquired taste. Not everyone is going to get it or appreciate it or the brilliant talent of Jim Carrey. Calling it stupid is not bashing the movie, it's only praising it. Get it?. Carrey stars as a pet detective hired by pre - "Friends" star Courteney Cox to find who stole the local football team's mascot. Sean Young is in on the fun as the police captain. It takes real smarts and talent to do what Jim Carrey does. It's not just acting goofy and silly. Some people don't get things. This is an uproarious film. If your in a bad mood or funk or whatever, and you need your sppirits lifted with ridiculous laughs, then you can't go wrong with this movie.

Best actor in the world.....Jim Carrey? Maybe not
But he is up there as the funniest on the planet. I laughed so hard during this movie that my body hurt. I really don't think that I care about the detailed acting skills. Although his job was to act funny and I believe that he did just that. If people don't laugh at all they should stay away from any of Carrey's movies. And now that I think about it.... from Liar Liar and the Truman Show and Man on the Moon.... I think he is one of the better actors out there. I really don't think that there is anyone else out there that could even come close to playing Andy Kaufman. Back to Ace though. I have seen this 10+ times and still laugh almost as hard. I would also like a letterbox DVD, but I don't think it would be any funnier.

This movie ROCKS!
I don't know what's up with all these people who give these bad reviews to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. I think this is amoung the Top 3 movies EVER! The character is perfect for Jim Carrey and the film is just plain and simply funny! He throws out constant one-liners that will keep you laughing everytime you quote them (If it gets cold enough... if you've seen the movie you're laughing). The best part about this movie is that no matter how many times you've seen it the sheer fun of watching it will keep you coming back, which is what makes this the perfect movie to own! Mine's so worn I'll have to replace it soon (thank-you DVD). Now, I'll be fair, I'm a huge Carrey fan so that probably tilts the scales in his favor but even so, the actual movie IS good! Sure the plot is a bit outrageous, but it's a COMEDY! Lighten up people, it's supposed to make you laugh, not make you think, and believe me, it makes you laugh. It's also got it's fair share of stars (Jim Carrey, Courtney Cox, Tone Loc) and not to mention a certain Hall-of-Fame football player (Dan Marino). In summary, this movie's got everything from comedy to stars. It's the perfect movie to watch over and over again and you'll never get sick of it. I would have given it 6 stars, but they wouldn't let me...

Jim Carrey Life Long Story..
As a young boy, Jim Carrey wanted to make people laugh. Today, as one of Americans hottest comics, he has made his dream come true. His journey there wasnt as easy as it sounds. Starting from comedy clubs, and unkown of cafe's who would have known this actor was so easy to met back then, but now hes considered more than a superstar.. This book includes the information above, but with chapters of every single lifestep achivement Jim has ever made.. with the coolest colour photo's ever.

Funny, but not Flawless
This book was funny. And that is perhaps the only good thing about it. The book was easy to get into I found myself on page 60 within what seemed like minutes I had so much fun reading it. But after that the jokes seemed to fall flat. The jokes after awhile seemed aimed for a pre-teen audience. If your 13 and enjoy chicken-up-the-rear humor than this book is for you. But for the mature reader steer clear and just see the movie.

a comedy with insanity
me myself and irene is a comedy wirth insanity. me my self and irene is a book with a great deal of comedy. the book is about a man who inherits two personalitys from holding his anger in and not dealing with it. he falls in love with irene, whom is a run away and gets him self invoved. his two personalitys add a new twist to this comedy although at times its is just two much to handle. i recomend this comedy to anyone with great imagination and is in it for a good laugh.

An interesting story
I have read the book but haven't seen the movie yet. I think the jokes in this book are very much like those appeared in Hong Kong movie star Steven Chow Sing Chi's films. Anyway, it is an interesting book and I really enjoy it.

I thought the book was very interesting, but it could of been better. The author could of explainedhis life a little better. If the book was explained more with humor it would of been better because it is more likley for a child to read the book then a adult. Over all the book was good and I learned a lot about Jim.

Jim Carry
I would recommend the book Jim Carrey to anyone. The book is a little slow at the start because the authordwindles on Carrey's childhood and him struggle to fame, a little to much. but after that the book picks up quickly. Toward the and the book goes very fast and is exciting. The book ends with a quote drom Jim Carrey himself. "Failure taught me that failure isn't the end, unless you give up." I think that the book Jim Carrey is one of the best biography I have read. There is a lot of detail, I think that that is what makes the book so good. I recommed the book to anyone who is intersted in Jim Carrey.

From the Author
These days Jim Carrey is very much at home on the screen, but there was a time when Carrey had no home. In fact, his entire family was homeless after his father, Percy Carrey, chose to resign from a job that was turning his family into bitter, hateful people.
My book traces Carrey's comedy from his performances at the family's dinner table to his schoolyard's playground and the classrooms of Canada through his years as a stand up comedian, television improvisational artist, and finally as the star of major motion pictures.
Jim Carrey was not an overnight sensation, but he never gave up on his dream. His story is an inspiration for us all. For those wanting to learn more about the plight of the homeless, or how to help some of the millions of homeless people, there is an extensive appendix in the book, following the Carrey biography.

Meant More For Kids
I recently bought this book and was disappointed to realize it was intended more for kids than adults. It has the facts but the writing isn't very great. There is no emotion in this book unless you search for it, the way it's written is more like a chronological list of the events in Jim Carrey's life than a story about a man. It does tell the very basic story of Jim Carrey's struggle to achieve his dreams so if you're interested in Jim Carrey it's not all bad, but I think 'The Joker Is Wild' will be a much better biography than this. But hey, if you're buying this book for a kid, go for it. Jim Carrey's is a very inspirational story, a true rags-to-riches tale. Only his story is real.

I gave it two stars because I'm still a huge Carrey fan, so if it had been a picture book I wouldn't be completely disatisfied.

Not a very long read, no new info...
If you are an avid reader, and thus have read other bios of Jim Carrey, this book, although seemingly accurate, is just a time filler. Nothing new, just a different premise. As an adoring Jim Carrey fan forever, it was fine to finish through, and it listed all of his screen prefomances, even had a Jim Carrey quiz to see how much you know, but this isnt a book of defined details. It is very brief and seems geared toward teens. Much better JC bios out there, but it will do for the time being.

One of my new Favs
This was such a great book. I really enjoyed reading so many interesting details about him that i never knew!
