Another useful book by Carlson that applies to men AND women
Enjoyed reading DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF FOR MEN by Richard Carlson . . . this is the latest in Carlson's "small stuff" series, and it does not disappoint . . . he continues to offer simple ways to minimize stress in a competitive world . . . they seem to make sense, at least to me, and can be applied to virtually any situation . . . although directed at men, I think women would also benefit from reading it . . . by the same token, methinks men could benefit from reading the companion DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF FOR WOMEN (written by Carlson's wife Kristine) . . . I know that I'll be looking for it.

I liked many ideas that I got from the book; among them:
Have an affair. . . .The idea is to reignite your passion for living, and to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. Remind yourself how precious and how short this adventure really is. I read a great book called A PARENTHESIS IN
ETERNITY . . . What a great way to think about the duration of your
life--as a blip on a passing screen. We're here for a moment in
time--and then we're gone. Why waste one second of self-pity,
frustration, and all the rest? Our lives are so much more important than that.

Consider how you would respond to the following two sentences spoken by a spouse, lover, or friend. First, "I hate my stupid job; (its bad)." Or, "Do you know what I'd really love to be doing?" Wow--what a difference. In the first sentence, you, as the listener or receiver of the complaint, want to leave the room. Your instinct is to pull away. In the second, however, you want to hear more; you want to engage in the conversation because it brings you closer to the person who is sharing.

Be for something rather than against it. . . . You can see how easy it is to be working with very positive intentions, yet still find a way to drive yourself nuts. Some environmental activists, for example, are doing great things-choosing to be vegetarians, picking up litter, cleaning up the beaches, planting trees, recycling, and raising awareness as well as money for the causes they believe in. Others, however, yell and scream, block traffic, chain themselves to trees, and starve themselves in an attempt to accomplish their goals.

Inspirational!
I am a female who recently bought this book as a gift for a relative. Before wrapping, I skimmed the book to see if it had the same Richard Carlson quality. Indeed it does!

This book, just like the other don't sweat the small stuff titles, includes ways to overcome difficult times. It will give you a positive attitude and help you gain peace with yourself, and uprooting events.

Good Christmas gift!

A Cool Little Book to Get You Ready for the Big Day!
... This is the kind of book you can read CHAPTERS at a time. At 208 pages, you can still read the whole thing in less than one day. ... Is it absolutely NECESSARY to read this book? NO. ... But it WILL give you a sense of closure when it comes to paying your taxes, as well as a little bit of interesting, historical background in order to help you understand taxes in a general sense. ... It will NOT help you to actually "DO" your taxes, but it WILL help you to do EVERYTHING in PREPARATION to getting your taxes done, either by yourself or by a professional. That, alone, can be very conducive to maintaining peace of mind during Tax Season in the Spring of every year.

... Here's an interesting quote from page 78: "The Income tax was implemented in 1861 to help raise revenue for the Civil War, but even this didn't mark its permanent inclusion in the landscape. It was repealed in 1872, revived in 1894, and declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1895. It was only in 1913, with the adoption of the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution, that the federal income tax was institutionalized." ... And, from page 202: "During the political season, it's common to hear elected officials and their challengers try to outdo each other in the pledges for tax relief. There's a tendency to respond to these initiatives with your own pocketbook - that is, to support the tax measures that appear to bring the greatest benefits to you. As appealing as this may sound, it may be a shortsighted approach that can hurt you - and all of us - in the long run."

... I, personally, believe that the tax system and the tax code is unfair. I think it would be far better if all non-commercial property taxes and all income taxes were abolished on both the state and federal levels. Instead, Congress could initiate a FLAT NATIONAL LUXURY SALES TAX of 10 or 20 PERCENT on all luxury items - and stop witholding money from worker's pay checks immediatly, other than for Social Security and Medicare ( or an instituted National Health Insurance Plan of some kind ). ... Whatever you think, one thing is certain: we are ALL taxed TOO MUCH in order to support a military that serves the interests of BIG BUSINESS in order to keep us ALL hostage to the Military Industrial Complex of the modern National Security State that our once great constitutional republic has been morphed into by the greed-heads and war-mongers of the multi-national corporations. This military serves THEIR business interests, not OUR interests as a people. ... - The Aeolian Kid

Keeping a Journal Shouldn't Be Stressful
One of my favorite gifts from last holiday season was a copy of the "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Women Journal." As blank journals go, this one is near perfect. The journal easily fits into a tote or purse without weighing it down. The pages are lined and just the right size to fill whenever a few moments of time or inspiration arises. And, inspiration comes easily with the help of the prompts at the top of each page. The quotations all have to do with making life less stressful by reminding you in different ways how "not to sweat the small stuff." These reminders range from why you should "experiment with doing nothing" to "do something physical every day."

This journal would make a good gift for many occasions, such as a baby or wedding shower or a significant birthday. The way the cover is designed, it's easy to personalize the journal by pasting a picture, piece of artwork or individual title over the book's title and have the printed border frame the new design. The journaler's name can also be pasted under the new design. For anyone who is looking to start a journal without the fuss of keeping a daily diary, this journal would be a good start for getting that project off the ground.

A Useful, Readable (Oxymoron?) tax guide
Many people of moderate wealth can learn tax planning from this book in a simple and accessible way, from anecdotes combined with excellent brief tax explanations. Younger (30 to 40) folks can benefit the most because they have more financial years to gain from good decisions made today.

As a manager of separate individual stock market accounts, I have been interested in financial planning, but skeptical. This book really reaches me because it offers simple real life examples where I see the point and recognize client situations which can benefit from the solutions.

Dunn uses high profile individuals for many of his cases, drawing from news reports and other sources. When you hear about very good and woefully bad decisions made by folks such as Sam Walton, Warren Buffet, Jackie Kennedy and many others, the magnitude of savings from good decisions really comes home. You will see good reasons to get some competent help.

Schizophrenia? Huh: Stories for Children

Another great book from Richard and Kevin Carlson!
I knew nothing about Schizophrenia before I read this book. I didn't
even know it existed. Through these three stories I have learned that they
are just normal people with a mental disease who are trying to get better.
The stories did not only teach me something but entertained me too I really
like the characters in these stories. I felt like they could be friends of
mine.

These stories were excellent and the illustrations as always were great!
My sister liked this book too. She kept trying to steal it from me! I
always look forward to reading new books by Mr. Carlson and Kevin. I think
this book is a must have for kids of ALL ages. I enjoyed reading it very
much. You will too!

Isn't having fun what being in love should be all about?
WAYS TO SAY I LOVE YOU AND HOW TO BE ROMANTIC BY A POLACK WHO KNOWS THE INDIAN LOVE SECRET is a collection of romantic ideas and tips I gathered together over some time. My suggestions are romantic, fun, imaginative, sweet, or just plain caring. It was an exiting and rewarding project.

I hope you find my book helpful in your relationship. Isn't having fun what being in love should be all about? Maybe it will stimulate your imagination and you'll come up with several of your own good ideas.

Don't assume that special person in your life knows how much you appreciate them. Do they know how much you care?

About the title of my book:

The INDIAN LOVE SECRET is a closely guarded secret of the Native American Indians. From what I understand, it was discovered centuries ago.

Native American males who know the secret are IRRESISTIBLE to women. They are ultra sensitive and superior lovers, which is the single most important trait a woman wants in a man.

Years ago, I read a newspaper advice column that included a letter from a woman. The woman wrote that she would rather have her Native American boyfriend than five white men. From what I recall, she had nothing but praise for her Native American lover, who knew the secret.

According to the column, not all Native Americans know the secret. It is passed down to Native American males from generation to generation.
