The most important 60's figure
If anything the importance and influence Mr. Lennon have been underestimated. This fatherless, motherless working-class boy wandered Liverpool as a near street urchin in care of his Aunt Mimi. his longings for what we would call boring middle class familial comfort ar palpable in such songs as "Mother" ans "Julia." His first son was named for his "bolter" of a mother. after 8 years of heroin addition ensconsed in the Dakota with Yoko he emerged, produced "Double Fantasy" and was gunned down by Mark David Chapman, probably a brainwashed agent of the US government. These pictures are among our relics and can be treasured.

ROLL UP FOR THE MYSTERY TOUR - IN MY LIFE
This book is sure to delight any reader from inveterate Beatles fan to interested learner. This book chronicles the life of John Lennon from his boyhood days in Liverpool up to his tragic death in 1980.

The photographs capture John at all phases of his life. One can imagine the high spirited young boy who declared to all and sundry that he was a genius and special (and he was right), to the founder of the world's number one band. I like the way this book captures John as more than the artist he was. I like the pictures of John with his sons, with his first wife Cynthia and with his soulmate and wife, Yoko. One feels that they are taking a Magical Mystery Tour with the man who literally made the world listen.

This book is such a treat. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Mystical St. John of the cross demystified
Ruth Burrows overview of the theology of St. John of the Cross is an excellent introduction to St. John's thought and values. The author anicipates many of the questions and contradictions that readers might encounter in exploring St. John's world and his response to it.
Burrows writing style is direct and readable. This book was a departure from my usual pile of Buddhist books and I enjoyed it thoroughly. A must have for the spiritual student, regardless of background or spiritual path.

No More Disfunction!
This was actually the 2nd time I have purchased this book. The first was lost in a move and it is deinately a must-have item! It tells about how to spot disfunction, how to overcome it and how to break the cycle with your own children, all within a relationship with Christ. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Not Enough Information
Jack Burrows' "John Ringo: The Gunfighter Who Never Was" is a well written book that focuses on what other writers have had to say about this legendary figure. Unfortunately, Burrows' concentration on the words written by others, overall detracts the book from telling readers about who John Ringo was or what he did during his life. The first impression one receives is that there is not much information about Ringo and that his reputation was largely achieved through the writings of latter day authors. Yet, Burrows' critic of other writers seems excessive at times. A reader who has little knowledge of Ringo other than his glorified reputation generally will like this book. But, there is far more information known about John Ringo's life than what is presented in Burrows' book. While I do recommend Jack Burrows' book, readers interested in an in-depth presentation of John Ringo's life must look elsewhere. Fortunately, biographies of John Ringo are not lacking. After reading Jack Burrows' book, readers should read Steve Gatto's recently released book "Johnny Ringo." When it comes to presenting information about John Ringo's activities throughout his life, Gatto's "Johnny Ringo" is vastly superior to Burrows' "John Ringo."

JACK BURROWS/JOHN RINGO
A well researched and (mostly) interesting book, although even an Englishman like myself had to have a dictionary to hand which made it hardgoing at times! (Where did he learn all those words?!!) Dr Burrows did tend to knock other authors of Western history, but I guess that is useful as we are at least able to take the mentioned books with a 'pinch of salt'.

A delight to read!
This is one of the best books ever written on the subjects of Tombstone, The Earps, Clantons and of course, the "deadliest gunfighter of them all" Johnny Ringo. Burrows has carefully and fully researched his subjects and has also taken the time to research the other researchers whom he spares not at all. His writing style is free wheeling and hilarious. Burrows convincely proves that the man called John Ringo wasn't the educated, charming and deadly gunfighter of myth but rather but rather a small time criminal and lonely figure. Before you decide you know all about the Tombstone story, read, John Ringo, The Gunfighter Who Never Was. You will discover how much you didn't know and what you did just may have been wrong .

I didn't think this book is what it says it is.
I had a number of problems with this book, which basically come down to that I wanted a book on "modern" furniture - a style developed in the 20's and 30's - but that's not what the book means by "modern", they mean "of today". Few of the projects in the book are in the "modern" style I was looking for. Many are rustic or distinctly pre-modern in style.

The book is a collection of articles from Fine Woodworking magazine. Some of them are indeed "projects" as the title implies, but many of them read more like "a brief discussion of things you could do" instead. The ones I would call "projects" go on with the assumption that they will present a piece of furniture, show plans, and describe how it is made. The others basically show a few photos of furniture and discuss their features and a few details of their construction, without actually showing anything about what to do. I found this particularly frustrating as most of the few pieces in the book that I really liked were merely shown without much discussion.

If you just want a book of articles about making furniture, it's a well printed book and I suppose the articles could be interesting in that context. However, if you're looking for a book about making furniture in the 20's/30's "modern" style, I don't think this is it.
