heart -warming...
I was 5 years old when this tall and jolly "americano" came into our home to talk to my parents about this book he wanted to write about a "newyorican" kid growing up in a fisherman village in Puerto Rico. Mr. Buckley had met my brother Freddie, the oldest while he was helping out at the local hotel and he wanted the book to be based on my brother. We had just moved to PR from NYC and Freddie, the oldest was having a real hard time adjusting. My parents were very supportive of the idea, and although we were very young, we were all so excited (me and four other brothers & sisters)!! The big "americano" took all kinds of pictures of us in our daily lifes; playing, eating, just having fun. He was very caring, and never, not once, lost patience with us. He was very kind with my parents too. Once the book was finished we got a number of copies, from which I still have one. The story was wonderfully written. Well, I became an environmental engineer

The rough guide
I would say this is a very good book for anyone starting out with the internet and is a good guide in strait english. If you spend a decent amount on the web I would not suggest it because it does not go beyond the basics.

The Best General Guide Yet
In the course of reviewing many general Internet texts for client distribution at our firm, I had the pleasure to come across this work. It is truely a level above everything else out there. Clear, concise and complete. This is a must have reference work for every Internet surfer.

Best Reference Book on Internet!
While taking a course on "Basic Internet" I was forced to buy another book that was really confusing. I found "The Internet - the Rough Guide 2000" at our bookstore and it has saved my life. The explanations and suggestions are much clearer than our text book and actually gave more information in a smaller size - really handy to keep by the computer or carry with you. I would definitely recommend this to anyone learning to surf the net, build a web page, research, etc.

NOT THE BEST BUT WORTH READING
Of the three books on reggae I have recently read this is the second best. It gives a fairly good overview of the music, recommends albums from various periods and interviews a lot of former and current stars. It's not really a book for continuous reading but rather a reference work to be consulted occasionally. Overall a worthwhile addition to the growing literature on reggae - better than Reggae, Rasta, Revolution but not as good as Reggae Routes : The Story of Jamaican Music which is definitely the best book ever written on the subject.

One of the best
The current Rough Guide covers the genesis of reggae and has a comprehensive discography guide to the music that began as ska and has evolved into the main stream culture of Jamaica and beyound the Jamaican community.

It would be easy to say that the book's crowning glory is it's many pictures both old and new of the many artists that has given the word reggae life and meaning. But the book is much more than that, it's a testament to the works of reggae performing artists and the inspiration behind those artists, the record producers....

A very solid and readable history.
Most people that have criticized this book already know a great deal about reggae (or at least think they do) and don't need a primer such as this. Sure, it can't include everything. It is the "Rough" Guide afterall. In my opinion, one could do considerably worse than this book written by one of the foremost reggae historians working today. It has been accused of being relatively stale and slow but if you're interested in the subject matter that shouldn't matter, right. This is history not entertainmant. If you want to be swept away by the prose get Borges. If you want to learn about reggae from a knowledgebale source then read this book. It's that simple.

This book explains the basics of internatinonalization
This well structured book is a bit shallow at times. The basics of the process of internationalization are clearly defined. But the authors should have considered more aspects of the process.

Perfect introduction
This book gives you a perfect insight in the internationalisation process of a firm. The aspects you will meet during internationalisation of a firm are described, issues like Foreign Investment, market entry, joint ventures, strategies and culture etc.. On account of the many contributors it gives you a varied perspective of this field. The main authors in the field of International Business contributed.

Just who DID promote Peress?
There are tons of blather, mostly from the bleats of the so-called intellectual class, that will forever bury the truth of Soviet subversion in the United States. They scream "witch-hunt," and the learned nod and scratch their chins, and imagine Lillian Hellman as a heroic figure. But, as Dwight MacDonald (no conservative) said, there ARE little witches. The Venona de-crypts, the testimony of the actual Soviet case-officers, the later confessions---all these things mean nothing to liberal myths. In this volume, brothers-in-law Buckley and Bozell (with an uncharacteristic lack of humor, but with a surgeon's scalpel) look at McCarthy's charges. From Moss to Lattimore, the dramatis personae and the evidence and the words of McCarthy's critics are laid before us. The conclusions are left to the reader; but the authors make a central point: nothing, EVER, said by McCarthy was as outrageous as those yawped by his critics. This book will inform those who have the Schrecker view of communism ("non-traditional patriotism"), the Appleton loyalists, as well as those who seek the facts. Recommended.

The Expectant Father's Cradle Boat Book
I purchased this book with the idea a boat cradle would be a unique gift from boat crazy Uncle Bill for my soon to be niece or nephew. Although not extensive, I do have some experience building strip built sea kayaks; very similar to the method used for the Bahama dinghy cradle discussed in the book.

Overall, the instructions are fairly clear and easy to follow. There are, however, a few pitfalls to avoid before construction starts. If you plan to enlarge the plans and patterns included in the back of the book with an architectural reprographics firm (as I did), be cautioned. The 600% enlargement specified by the book proved inaccurate. 548% brought them to scale without distortion and this was expensive (over $50). Once the plans were to scale, any stated measurements on the plans were not necessarily accurate so again, beware. Some measurements had to be coaxed from the plans and the exact placement of the transom mold still eludes me. Also a little confusing is that all the patterns are not square on the graph and, in fact, some patterns are not symmetrical. In particular the transom and rocker patterns. Purchasing the available full size plans may be the way to go.

Again the book is fairly well written as an instructional guide, even for someone like me with little boat building or woodcrafting experience. I'd have rated it much higher had the supporting plans and patterns better lent themselves to more rapid and better construction and less head scatching.

Good Book Great Project
I've built the pram twice. Lots of fun! To build this boat you may have to learn a little about epoxy. Although it can be built without epoxy. I highly recommend buying the plans. If you already have the plans, then the book will help greatly in building the boat.

Probably the sweetest heirloom you can make.
This book is a wonderful inspiration, and even the expectant moms can make the boat taking into account modifications to eliminate ANY exposure to the various toxins in epoxy etc. The boats are beautiful especially the historic examples. The instructions are excellent and diagrams clear. But be warned you may have trouble enlarging the plans. I went to all the blue print copying firms in a major metropolitan area and none of them had printing capabilities above 36" and I had no reply to the answer-phone messages left on the number to order plans. Time and time again. Otherwise it's got the be the best thing to focus on before baby arrives and nothing else can tell the baby(or mother) that you love them more!
