Splendid lessons on biblical leadership
Bob Briner has done an exquisite job of crafting an easily accessible, thought provoking devotional guide for men in leadership. Some of the lessons are like a shot to the solar plexus - they will startle the reader. Each day's lesson provides ample insights for reflection and prayer. Clean design includes scripture, insights, lesson and a miniscule space for a written response. An index of scripture lessons is provided, along with lined pages for notes. The book delivers on the subtitle promise: "90 proven leadership principles."

The best devotional I have used...
Bob Briner combines an experienced, time-tested businessman's background with an unwavering commitment to and deep knowledge of God in this devotional. I have found his practical insights very useful in living out a daily commitment to growing in my faith. I am giving this book to all my Stanford buddies! It is by far the best devotional that I have ever come across.

Truly applicable to helping Men in Leadership!
The approach Bob had taken in making this devotional truly reflects that kind of lifestyle that Christ would want for us to have. It has definitely centered my attention and focus on how to deal with responsibility, leadership, attitude, and willingness to make a change. I encourage readers to purchase this book and share it with those in the leadership role.

Enjoy!

Roaring Lambs
For 25 years, I have tried to express how I feel about "secular religion" and have been misunderstood or have offended. This book finally explains what I think about Christianity. I would recommend this book to anyone who is not a pastor, missionary, or faith-related physician or educator - in other words, those of us "in the world."

The world needs salt and light
I would highly recommend this book, although I found it to be very convicting. As a Christian artist, I had retreated into what Bob calls the "Christian sub-culture." He argues that if we retreat into our own world (Christian book stores, Christian schools, Christian radio and TV) are we still influencing the world? He goes on to make the point that in many ways, the artists (writers, actors, visual artists and musicians) shape our culture and the Christian artists need to be out there offering the world positive alternatives to "sex and violence." Bob's book made me want to go back into the world, not retreat from it. I think that is also what Christ would want - in the world, but not of the world with the purpose of transforming the world for Him.

Really teaches some lessons
In this book, Bob Briner shows us some lessons about INTEGRITY. A word that sometimes gets forgotten in front of some common business practices. In an easy reading book, he puts some verses from the Bible that support his recomendations. I liked it a lot, sometimes you will be amazed that that kind of learning can come from the Bible. Give it a try, you'll find yourself passing it to almost everybody.

More Leadership Lessons of Jesus: A Timeless Model for Today's Leaders

Jesus' Timeless Model for Leadership
Those who know of sports promoter Bob Briner know he was an outspoken advocate of living your faith in the world you live and work in. His books provide insight into how to make that happen. In "The Leadership Lessons of Jesus", and the companion volume "More Leadership Lessons of Jesus", Bob Briner and Ray Pritchard take the reader chronologically through the life of Jesus as described in the Gospel of Mark, pointing out along the way the leadership behaviors of Jesus and how they apply to today's world. The first volume covers Mark chapters 1-6, the second chapters 7-10. The format is one of short scripture introducing a chapter, followed by a 1-2 page commentary. These short readings are great for daily meditations or reading in short pieces. Other books about Jesus' leadership, such as Laurie Beth Jones' "Jesus, CEO" follow a similar format, but the content is different. Jones uses scripture passages to introduce the leadership concept in each chapter, but follows it with insights from her own and many other traditions. Briner and Pritchard stick to explaining the Biblical context of the quote and its applications to business life in today's world. The chronological order also helps see a broader context of the time and place of each encounter, what happened before and after. Anyone seriously interested in Jesus as a model of leadership will find these books valuable, with many fresh and original insights.

A fabulous book on faith and the arts
Christians seem so often to create their own sub-culture of culture--Christian music, Christian books, etc. Briner exhorts people of faith to produce their very best work to the glory of God, but in the mainstream where everyone can be impacted. As a Christian and an artist who tries (sometimes with more success than others) to combine serving God and creating art, this book really inspired me to keep striving to do and be my best.

Attention all musicians, actors, writers, artists, etc...
I have never found a more helpful book than Roaring Lambs in providing a purpose for a Christian who wants to impact the world for Christ. Briner writes to guide and encourage Christian artists who want to impact their contemporaries with God honoring music, theater, art, movies, etc. BUT, he emphasizes sharing your gifts with the world. Do not stay in the cozy, protective Christian sub-culture, but let your peers admire your skill. Venture into your cities and share your performances and creations. Offer an alternative to the world with the gifts God has given you.

If you want a book that adds fire to the protests, boycotts, and score keeping that some Christians partake in.... THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU! This book will show you were Christians have dropped the ball in areas of literature, movies, TV, journalism, etc. AND give you great ideas to change these mediums by asking you to get involved and provide God honoring alternatives.

A Call to Action
This book is a long overdue call to action for every Christian. Too often, we pigeonhole ourselves into our own subculture. We must instead take our message to the public squares. Briner challenged christians to do precisely that: to enter the culture shaping industries and change them for the good of all involved.

This book left me wanting for more
As a corporate middle manager and as a Christian, I was intrigued by this slim volume. I was encouraged by its message of servant leadership, but wished for greater depth and detail. I also felt that the author stretched some of the quoted scriptures to fit the chosen topic, to the extent that I was occasionally uncertain as to how the scripture supported the topic.

Outstanding guide for managers and everyone else
Mr. Briner does an excellent job of bringing out some of the basic principles of management and tying them into the teachings of Christ. Very readable and thought-provoking without (pardon the pun) preaching.

Excelent insights on human resources management
Modern management in service, commerce, high-tech industry and software industry requires the drive of highly qualified human resources, high skilled persons and for that the human resources management techniques become crucial. This book which brought from Jesus thoughts the best to be applyed to the present business management environment is a must reading for the senior upscale managers.

His Roar Continues
I knew Bob Briner. This book continues the challenge he gave me to find a way to think outside the box and touch the world. Readers will be challenged by his continuing proding especially as it pertains to politics in Chapter 4. He nailed me again here. The book also contains a chapter from Bob's wife Marty and some pictures from his life. For a Bob Briner fan, you will want this book for your library. It would also be a great gift for someone that needs to think about the world and how to make a difference.

Abusing Jesus
Post-modern people in the West have gotten used to the trashing of the past's great minds by holding them accountable to twentieth and twenty-first century ideals. What passed as acceptable in the sixteenth century is vilified by superior moralists today. This is as it should be until the whole raft of a past genius' work is suspect or thrown out because he or she is not politically or socially correct by present standards. Thomas Jefferson and his alleged affair with Sally Hemmings, an African-American slave, is a recent case in point.

The reverse is true in Charles C. Manz's book The Leadership Wisdom of Jesus. Manz takes the central figure of Christianity and mines some of his teachings about leadership so that CEOs and business managers might do better on the job. But what Manz does not understand is that Jesus is not about making better business practices. He is a religious figure with a totally different agenda which includes saving a world bent inward on itself so that it might be opened up to a new relationship with God. What Manz does is abuse this purpose of Jesus to satisfy the "self help" needs of some business professionals whose consciences might be bothering them.

It is true that Manz confesses that he is not writing a religious book (page 3), but misusing the writings of Jesus even for a good cause is abuse. It diminishes what Jesus Christ is really about.

Disagree with Pr. Gary Nokleberg from Appleton, WI USA
I have not read the book, so please ignore my rating which I had to fill in because it's a compulsory field. I disagree with Pr. Gary Nokleberg's viewpoint. As a spiritual person, I believe God can meet us anywhere and everywhere (even in the boardroom). If CEOs and senior managers want Jesus to teach them something about leadership and management, I'm sure God is gracious and flexible enough to meet their needs even if these needs appear to be non-religious. Who can tell after having been inspired by Jesus' teachings, these people will not come to a fuller appreciation of Jesus in a later part of their life's journeys?

Awe Inspiring! A lesson a day, a lesson for life!
You will truly enjoy this book! Bob Briner and Ray Pritchard bring an exciting and refreshing look at how the greatest leader in the world can provide the blueprint to become leaders in our own lives, our communities, our workplace, and especially in our own families. If you are a father, a brother, a coach, a teacher, or someone in a position of influencing another human being, this is a must read! As you read, pray for the gift of wisdom to understand all that is presented on these pages, so that you can apply them in your own lives! God Bless!
