Sexy, Passionate, and Hot
This collection of erotica was very stimulating. There is something for everyone in this book. You will find yourself with a sexy grin on your face as your read from one story to another. Susie Bright has collected a very diverse collection of stories. I was glad to see that there were stories that involed different races and colors. It is hard to find well written erotic that involes all people. This book will make you want to widen your sexual horizons as you read along. You can always skip the few stories that are just to wild for you or are just not into. The only thing that I wish is that this book was on audio tape. Damn that would be good.

Sexy good reading
This book is sexy and packed full of interesting stories. I love the funny ones - the Thief of Cocks, the Motley Crue tale, and the sex for real estate story!

Hot!
After buying BAE 2001, I bought this edition. While BAE 2001 is quite good, this edition has some excellently written, memorable, and just plain hot stories. From S&M by Gabrielle Glancy, to the longing described in Somewhere I Have Never Travelled by Claire Tristam, to examining traditional "Indian matchmaking" in Fish Curry Rice by Ginu Kamani, the SM-laced "The Manicure" by Nell Canberry and to a lesser extent of "the women getting the upper hand" in Essence of Rose, Big Hungry Woman, and The Fishing Show, this is an anthology that is never dull and at times quite erotic. Even in stories that weren't necessarily my "cup of tea", I found myself riveted to them. Carol Queen's excerpt story (From the Leather Daddy and the Femme) is also especially hot and nasty.

This collection of stories inspired me to start writing erotica again and who knows? Maybe one of my stories will one day wind up in a future edition of Best American Erotica.

that icky feeling afterwards
reading susie bright's book is exhilerating and fun -- one feels really free reading an entire book which openly describes a multitude of sex acts. susie bright is also an incredibly witty writer. however, after putting the book down, i was filled with a really icky feeling. i felt like susie bright wasn't simply describing particular sex acts but *prescribing* particular sex acts -- this was particuarly evident in her tone (which is always nearly mocking anyone and everyone who isn't just like her). i also felt like there were moments when bright could have written about the complexities of sexuality (particularly in the essay where she discusses giving a speech to hiv positive women); however, bright's overly-sassy tone prevails.

great funny read with lots of info
This is a collection from Susie Bright's colume "Toys for Us" from "On Our Backs" over the first six years of the magazine's run. She answers a few questions, discusses lesbian issues, talks about her personal experiences, all in direct by funny language sure to burst down your resentments if you have any. If you were a reader of "On Our Backs" and remember enjoying her colume, now you can read 26 of them in this collection. If you didn't but are interested in lesbian concerns from the mid 1980s to 1990 you'll find this full of information that will surprise and perhaps sadden you.

A Bit on the Literary Side
When I read Susie Bright's series, I am always surprised and aroused. This edition was pretty good too, but it lacked the sheer heat of the 1994 edition. The 1996 edition seemed to be going for a more intellectual orgasm, much like 1995 did. I give it four stars because of a few standout stories that do the intellectual thing as well as the sheer sexual thing: The Letters, The Hit (in fact, I am still looking for the novel it is excerpted from), Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot (hey, anything by Bob Butler is good, geez). The other stories were worthy. Ms. Bright strikes again.

X-rated Intellectual, Indeed!
Ah, the delectable Susie Bright. This book, though several years old, is fabulous. In it, Ms. Bright cunningly explores several themes and individuals with wit and intelligence. Her description of a discussion she had with adult film (and I do mean film) director Andrew Blake on her dislike of his lack of realism in his films' lesbian scenes is right on. Another great tale is her fantasy involving Dan Quayle. Yes, that's right, J. Danforth himself is lucky enough to have been the subject of one of Ms. Bright's sexual fantasies, or, at least, she will have us think so.

As is true of all of her books, Sexwise by Susie Bright is not to be missed.

Ear Candy
save your money. my copy is going back to be sold as "used", i guess. stories aren't bad but the narration is horrible. probably better read instead of heard. it's hard to get aroused when some man with a "not so hot" voice is telling you an erotic story and doing a poor job at it as well. in a word, ...cheesy.

don't bother
Waste of money if you are not into the girl- girl thing- nearly every story has it. And the ones that don't are worse. terrible. Bad writing-

Rather disappointing.
I think those readers who are interested in erotic stories may find the selections in this audio tape a bit "technical" sounding. The terminology used fell short of my definition of eroticism. I would pass on this selection.

More of a Turn off than a turn on.
I bought the first Cyborgasm, and I loved it. Absolutely adored it. Then I soon wanted something more, so I finally gave in, and bought #2... boy was I disappointed. The first was very erotic, this one just didn't have the same spark. The only track that was kinda erotic was "Peep Show," and after a few HOURS of listing to this woman ramble on and on about some orgy party, I got tired and skipped to the next track. Save your money on this one kids.

Not this couple's cup o' tea
We loved the first Cyborgasm, but this one didn't have the appeal. Track 4 "The Housewife and the Businessman" was a waste of space. The gay men in two of the tracks bothered my spouse to no end. Not as good as the first.

Not enough love making noises
Well, what can i say? When the book arrived I put it on right away, headphones and all for the whole effect. I was quite surprised and found it interesting first time round but after a couple of plays it gets to be a bit monotonous. The stories are good as far as erotica goes but if they are ment to excite, they should have had a few more sound effects to each one. The most exciting track of the whole thing that caused a ripple in me was the beginning with the sounds of love making and the sound of the whip. Peep show was good, and the woman was arousing to listen to. However, being bisexual, I wish they had the samething done by a man. The track after Peep Show was silly, and the final track a boring joke. like I stated before, if more sounds had been added it would have been great.

I dig Susie, but this was a disappointment
I am a big fan of Susie Bright's own work and her various collected erotica anthologies, but I was really disappointed with this one. While a couple of the stories were very cool-- 'Absolution' and 'None of the Above'-- those are only two out of twenty. I didn't find stories with idiotic and racist characterizations, as in 'Big Nouns, Unconjugated Verbs', the least bit sexy or interesting. And a lot of the other stories seemed like writing exercizes in zeroing on specific fetish audiences without much success. I think so many of these collections are hot, I'd skip this year and choose any of the others.

It Got Me Started
Before this book, I had read erotica with no ambition whatsoever to write any myself. Two stories in this book changed all that: PG DIARY and SWEATING PROFUSELY IN MERIDIA. They were good and, unlike much of what is called erotic, they were engaging on other levels. I liked the protagonists, I was interested in their plight, they seemed human, they seemed to be enjoying themselves and not doing it for my pleasure. Ms. Bright put together a nice collecion. I forgot. Stone Butch Blues was nice, too.

Fantastic
When I saw Susie Bright's name on this collection of erotica I knew that I had to have it. The first collection of hers that I read was called HEROTICA and I have been hooked ever since. She is such a great editor that one need not worry at all about the quality of the fiction in her collections. Her books are always guaranteed to be well written and hot. She never fails to include a nice mixture of hetro, homo, and lesbian eroticism with a dollop of fetishism thrown in to her collections. It makes for an eclectic, enjoyable read.

THIS IS NOT THE BEST OF AMERICIAN EROTICA
TO SAY THAT THIS IS THE BEST AMERICAN EROTICA FOR 2001, IS FALSE ADVERTIZING. THE NEED TO REMOVE THE EROTICA PART IN THE TITLE. iT IS VERY BLAND, I HAVE READ A LOT OF THE "EROTICA" BOOKS, AND THIS COMES NO WHERE NEAR IT.

IF YOU LIKE EROTICA TRY "THE HOT BLOOD SERIES","BEAUTY'S PUNISHMENT & BEAUTYS RELEASE, BY Anne Rice", ARE JUST A FEW OF THE BEST.

Nice collection of stories
As an "amatuer" erotica writer, I bought this book not only for some creative inspiration, but also to see what kind of material "published" erotica writers create. When I began reading this collection, I realized not only how talented these writers were, but that I still had a little ways to go as a "potential erotica writer." These stories run the gamut from straight, gay, bi, and whatever. Not only was I entertained, but also provided me with the inspiration I needed to create more of my own work, not to mention lots of new fantasies.

From stories of "threesomes" to fantasy lovers to oral sex to working in a peep show and phone sex, they present a good view of sexuality. Unlike two or three other reviewers, I liked this collection of stories. While one or two may not have been to my specific interest, I recognized each work as good writing and story telling.

This Is NOT Penthouse Letters
Each story in this multi-faceted volume stands alone as an interesting short piece. Short stories such as these, with no erotic content, would qualify for inclusion in a literary volume of quality short stories. This book explores human nature from many different perspectives, and on that single basis, is an interesting book.

The erotic content only serves to allow readers to explore a part of human nature that is rarely discussed, except in clinical terms, demonized with a broad brush by those who fear it, caricatured by pornographers, or lampooned by comedians. Each author does a masterful job of illuminating feelings, experiences, and desires that generally remain hidden in Society's shadow.

Some of the works are quite tittilating, others, shocking. Of course, that's a statement which tells more about me than about the book. Those seeking a blow by blow description of sex acts would do better with the latest issue of Penthouse. But if you'd like to explore human sexuality, to be teased, to push the envelope of the bourgeouis boudoir, then give this book a chance.

Herotica without the erotic.
I was looking for some hot bed time reading. This isn't it. As erotic fiction this is merely fiction. And boring fiction at that.

I wanted some hot action and some romance and some surprises, I didn't get it. (Mind you, I wanted cool hot action, graceful, romantic, sensual. No fear of raw animal sex here since there's very little sex in this).

The only hot thing about this book is on the cover. What's on the pages is disappointing.

If you are wondering.....
I think at least 10 of these 26 stories gave a satisfying answer to that question. Congratulations to the writers and editors. Ladies, you're just great!

This was an excellent book!
I have read Herotica 1 & 3 and finally came back to read this edition. These are great books. The one thing I enjoy the best is that these stories are written by women and for women. All of the erotica I had read before discovering these read like a cheesy male-dominated adult film. Like the comments on the others in the series though, these have something for everyone but not everyone would like everything. My husband and I read these together and have found quite a few stimulating ideas. A definite must read for anyone who loves well-written erotica from a woman's point of view.

The Best American Erotica 2003

Warning: These are not "the best"
The reading public should know that these stories are the "best" according to the editor's taste -- and the editor doesn't write erotica. There are lots of erotica books out there where the stories are high quality and where the authors didn't get included based on what they could do for the editor's reputation. Don't be fooled by the title. The "best" is highly subjective.

bedtime stories!
I thought this round of the Best Of erotica series was great! Not only were the mix of stories entertaining--there's a voyeur's glee to be had, peeking into what other folks find stimulating as well as the stuff I like--but this anniversary edition also includes Susie's delightfully breezy notes about just what sorts of people the best of...erotica writers are. As if that weren't enough, after you've savored the stories tale by tale (or tail), there's a bonus section in the back featuring some of the reader's favorites over the years. I was especially happy to see an excerpt from my all-time favorite erotica book, Nicholson Baker's "Fermata." It's a shame Mr Baker is no longer gracing us sauce-ready readers with his special literary, wordplayful brand of "rot," as he calls it. Given the loss to literature, being able to visit a old favorite was especially nice.

Perhaps the best part of the book, and of the whole series, is the feeling I get--that, you know what? It takes all kinds, we all like to have fun, and we're all sexual creatures under our clothes. Rowr!

the best of the best
I thought this best american erotica was the best so far in the series with 1996 being a close second. I sometimes read the stories just because they are good but this time around there were a few times I had to stop reading to go especially enjoy myself if ya know what I mean.
