How to be a Member of the British Parliament
Gyles Brandreth's new book is a marvellously well-crafted and naturally comic account of the author's five years as MP for the City of Chester. It chronicles the last parliament of Conservative Power under the premiereship of John Major. It makes compelling reading and has completely distracted me from my academic work.

Hilarious Fun
I picked up the book at the library while browsing through some of the nearby books. This caught my eye because "LEX" is not exactly the most common thing you hear in your daily life. From the first section to the last, I roared with laughter. The funniest part was the section when he took out certain letters from "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and tried to make the story still make sense. When he took out "a" from the poem, it was hilarious to hear that Polly owned some sheep. It was very enjoyable. If you ever want a good laugh with the English language, this is the book to read.

Hilarious!
I know this book is out of print, but it's worth getting. It's a great book to read when you have spare time and the activities in it are very intriguing. One test in it allows you to caculate your vocabulary size. My brother and I greatly enjoyed reading it together. If you like words and you like to build a better vocabulary, get this book! It is not only entertaining, but educational. You can get many fun facts from it.

Quick read
This book didn't take long to blaze through; it's relatively short. It's divided into two sections: the first are the recorded last words of famous people in history; the second, notable epitaphs--some serious, some not so.
The first part of the book would have been better if the author/compiler would have given more of a context for each quote. Some literally meant nothing to me. . . an explaination would have helped.
Overall, I'd rate the book slightly above average. . . maybe 3 1/2 stars if there were such a thing.
Die? I thought I'd Laugh (or at least think)!
In his collection of death bed musings and graveside comments, Gyles Brandreth pays heed to Karl Marx's Last words--"Get out!" Last words are for people who haven't said enough!" Luckily for the reader, Brandreth ignores Marx and focuses on the final words of famous men and women. Words of wisdom, condemnation, delusion and humor are presented, as well as special explainations regarding the departed's concluding words. For those with a morbid tinge, the curious, and for those able to extract humor from ANY source, this document is well worth the hunt.
Brandreth focuses particularly on the ironic comments made, while still keeping true to finding special significance in these final words. Especially enduring are the grave enscriptions, which often show that you needn't be alive to get "the last word". From poetic to comic to insulting to being eternal advertisements for the local stone cutter, Brandreth covers the famous and the unknown--equal, if anywhere else, in this book
