Marketing your crafts - even hostess party plans!
Hi - My name is Opal Leasure, The Apron Strings Country Home Party Lady. Barbara's book, Creative Cash is chock full of helpful hints and downhome advice on getting your crafts business going and growing. As one of the small business entrepreneurs mentioned in the book, I feel the author does an excellent job of showing others "how-to" sell, market and otherwise, expand, their home based business endeavors. Creative Cash outlines hundreds of ways to market crafts including party plan (hostess) selling, home shows and boutiques. It also reflects on how one thing can lead to another, in life, and your own small business. Many listed, myself included, went on to self publish their own how-to books. I was very happy to note in the book, that Barbara included a resource section listing the professional crafters mentioned in the book. This is a good way for readers to benefit from the talents, ideas and creativity of many people. I urge others to order Creative Cash - it helps readers realize how gifted they really are and gives them incentives to get started with their own home based business plans. With Barbara's easy to read text, the book is a plus for every crafter's reference library.

Crafters take Note....This one is a must read.
Barbara Brabec does it again in her usual easy to absorb style. A Crafter's diagram for success. In this very readable book you will find years of experience in various facets of crafting. Not only will you find the real-life experiences of others in the business, you'll learn what mistakes to avoid as well. Mrs. Brabec covers it all. Included is a section on "Crafters and Computer Technology" which can give some insight into how other crafters are incorporating computer technology into their businesses. This one is truly a gold mine of information.

Fascinating and chock-full of information
As usual, a Barbara Brabec book is immeasurably helpful, inspiring, and loaded with goodies. Her breezy style of writing makes connecting with the topic that much easier, and her step-by-step style of instruction fuels a true "I think I can!" response with the crafter.

Not Just For Beginning Businesses!
Ms. Brabec made this book very personable by featuring tips from various artists. I was also glad to see extensive coverage on building a business using the computer.

The best feature of this book is that it is written to be a used reference for anyone entering the craft business or already a veteran in the industry. My favorite chapters were Production Methods and Strategies as well as Keeping Everything in Perspective. I also enjoyed the section on writing a business plan and for the first time, I was able to complete one using her step by step guide.

If you are a beginning your first business in this field, this book is a must because it covers every aspect from the very beginnings of a business plan to pricing and shipping, finding work space, and organization and time management as well as pricing, packaging and design.

If you are an experienced business person in this field, this book is a must because it covers sharpening your marketing skills, communicating efficiently, and business management.

not too exciting
This book is full of fluff. For a beginner knitter, this is an awful awful book to start with (by the way, vogue knitting: the ultimate knitting book is excellent for all level knitters, especially for beginners...) Everything explained seems to only wandering upon surface; and sometimes i wondered if the authors forgot to finish what they tried to say. Also I hope they can actully organize their thoughts a bit more to write down lists; for instance, list different yarn weights from the lightest to the heavest instead of poping out whatever they can think of. And don't try to explain things in words when diagrams can show better...in other words, this book needs more drawings than fluffy wordy words.

Where's the profit?
So many times I've been told I could sell my projects (most of which are original designs). But knitting is so time-consuming, I wondered how I could ever make a profit at it. This book does not have the answer. There is one inspiring example of a woman who does custom knits for Hollywood stars and prices her garments based on the hours that go into them. Then again, another example is of a woman who sells her handknitted baby blankets for [very little money for the effort] She must make a few cents an hour. What kind of profit is that? The author seems to assume that if you love to knit, you'll be happy making whatever money you can above the price of yarn. There are no details on how to get into selling designs, or opening a shop. Some info on craft shows and how to get started teaching. Includes a few free patterns you are allowed to make and sell.

Good reference tool and very useful!
This book is very useful for beginning and advanced knitters alike! It explains in plain english the different stitches and abbreviations. Various patterns are included as well as how to market and sell those wonderful knitted creations. I highly recommend this as a reference tool and a good way to begin to learn to knit.
