Ok, there is absoltuely NO denying the fact that Shakespeare is an awesome guy. Also, there is no denying that The Sonnets are gorgeous and intriguing. However, with the help of many FANTASTIC performers, there is NOW no denying that spoken sonnets are even better. Read by the stars, the sonnets have a new life to them- something inderscribable is added when they are read aloud by these voices. Kudos to (the one and only ) Brian Stokes Mitchell, who I particularly enjoyed, not only because I'm a huge fan of his, but because his voice lends itself extremely well to the words The Bard wrote. Great recording!

Along with the trend of managed care and the need for better and effective services, cost-effective and outcome studies in mental health field become more and more important. This book arrives in time. The authors outlined related concepts step by step in a logical sequence, and used precise words to state systemic review without lengthy explanations, so that the reader can read and understand easily. The reader can even design his own research after reading through chapter two to nine, because the covered range in related fields was so comprehensive that any question a starter want to ask is included. It is the best book discussing research methods that I ever read.

The title may be slightly misleading and even off-putting but do not put down this book. The authors summarize several years of research done at Colorado State University. This reasearch has allowed them to develop some powerful process models which explain the evolution of fluvial systems over time. These models, while derived from flume work, apply well to the real world. Observations discussed and inferences put forth by the authors have been documented in the field by researchers for companies such as Exxon. They fit quite well with the sequence stratigraphic ideas found in the professional literature published by AAPG and SEPM (to name a few). Every geologist who wishes to become a competent stratigrapher should read this book. A great follow-up to Schumm's earlier book 'The Fluvial System.' CJ

This millennium edition of Leslie's One Shot Review is an excellent reprint returning a classic to new audiences. Originally published in 1960, this volume provides work by some of the finest 20th century authors from Allen Ginsberg and Kenneth Koch to Terry Southern. Also included: Fidel Castro's 1960 address to the U.N. This millennium edition contains a narrative poem by the author commenting on the origins of the original Hasty Papers. A keepsake literary work in an oversized presentation, packed with black and white photos and illustrations.

This book has possibly the best analysis of Hitchcock's "Psycho" available. This is a microscopic frame by frame examination of 5 or so of the master's films. All (with the exception of "Psycho") were made early in Hitch's career ("The Lodger" is a silent film) and are British films (ie made in England vice America). I won't really comment on the analysis of the early works (as I have not seen those films), but the analysis of Psycho deserves mention. This analysis is absolutely devastating. I do not mean this in a negative way, I mean to say that when you read it, you will see Hitchcock films as you once did. According to Rothman, Psycho is not only a film about the personal problems people have (it's not just a shower scene), it is a film concerned with: a)Hitchcock's opinion of his art, what he has done and will do, b)an examination of life and art, c)the role of active participation an audience undertakes in watching a film, and d)that Norman Bates is a helluva lot crazier than we would ever have believed possible, and far more than I have space to write. Rothman makes some outrageous claims, but damn, does he support them well! He convinced me. The book is filled with frame by frame pictures to accompany the analysis. Highly recommended for students of film and Hitchcock fans.

Well written book, hard bound, cloth cover, archival 60# paper, fold out maps showing early Neff farms in Lancaster and Huntingdon Co's., PA and early Neff documents from the mid-1700's and early 1800's. Historically accurate and well documented. Printed by Princeton University Press. As of 2003, book is still in print and available.

This is a translation of Ockham's work titled the "Summa Logicae" (Part II). The translators are Alfred J. Freddoso (who also translated the "Concordia" by Luis de Molina) and Henry Schuurman. Much of what Ockham is dealing with in this particular work is the philosophy of language and logic. Ockham discusses the truth conditions of propositions (indicative sentences). He begins at the best place, with the most simple or basic propositions and works his way to the more complicated propositions. Past tense and future tensed propositions are dealt with as well as modal propositions. This book is not basic reading. In fact, if you do not have a background in logic you will labor through this text. However, if you do have a background in the study of logic then you will probably enjoy this book. Some of the table of contents are "On the Classification of Propositions," "What is Required for the Truth of an Indefinite Proposition and of a Particular Proposition," "On Universal Propositions," "On Past Tense and Future Tense Propositions," How to Find Out When a Proposition, One of Whose Extremes is an Oblique Case, is True or False," "On Conditional Propositions, " "On Conjunctive Propositions," "On Hypothetical Propositions and Their Properties," etc. Moreover, the book contains a very helpful introduction by Freddoso which helps to identify and explain what Ockham is dealing with in this work. This is a much needed translation of a Philosopher whose works are not translated into English like they should be.

The best of William Blake (and then some!), taken off the shelf, dusted off and propped up for the rest of eternity to consider. From the aphorisms of "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell" (required reading) to the later prophetic books, it's Blake in all of his...Blakeness. And let's give a hand to Kazin for his fantastic Introduction to one of the heavy-hitters of the Western tradition.

This book is a monster text! It is 702 pages and covers every imaginable question that could be asked. For example, "Is an angel in a place through his substance?" or "Does a spoken word lose its significance when a thing [it signifies] ceases to exist?" and many, many more (about 170 questions in all).

This is a paperback one-volume edition to the earlier two volume edition, which means this volume is substantially less expensive than the two volume set. Moreover, the topics covered in this volume are practically exhaustive - logic, ontology, natural philosophy, philosophical psychology, ethics, moral theory, theology, metaphysics, etc.

Added features to this already great text include a lengthy and exhaustive subject index, a short but good introduction, nice explanatory footnotes throughout the text, a short but good selective bibliography, and an index of names and works.

Fred Freddoso (Notre Dame) and the late Francis Kelley have translated this work in such a way that both the scholar of Ockham and the student of Ockham will benefit. Moreover, this is a great introductory work to Ockham for students (such as myself) interested in digging a little deeper into the thoughts and writings of one of the more prominent Medieval thinkers.

The work is laid out as such: a question is posed or asked, if there is something to be noted about the question then it is noted with a nice explanation, a reply to the question is given, and sometimes, depending on the question and the content, a reply to the main argument is given. If there are problems or issue which have arisen about a particular question Ockham is careful to cover these problems and issues. And, all along, footnotes are provided by the translators which help the reader understand the Latin usages (if that issue arises), the context of the question and response, cross references to other works or issues which might help the reader branch out into deeper research, and descriptions and explanations of terms, works, etc. So the book is quite helpful and friendly to all readers, which actually makes reading this text quite helpful. I highly recommend this work! Moreover, buy it soon because it has been my experience that books like these (the really good ones!) for some odd reason usually have a short shelf life!
