50% robbed ?
I would say there are samples of other books, like "Revolutionary Suicide", I don't see exactly why, as this book ("Revolutionary Suicide") isn't out of print...and the fact that you have people like David Hilliard behind this isn't really a good selling point for the true defenders of The Cause. anyways, there are some scoops I would say in this book, and it allows a better understanding of Mr Huey Newton

correction to review
I searched this book from beginning to end, and nowhere does it mention Newton's stay in Cuba. If I am wrong please correct me.

The Bottom Line
What IS it with goofy liberals who *think* they know what "The Cause" is and take it upon themselves to diss someone like a David Hilliard??? For the record, Mr. Hilliard was the childhood friend of Dr. Newton, the BPP Chief of Staff, and has more true knowledge, fervor and *experience* in "The Cause" than any ne'er do well might think s/he posseses in their small liberal brains.

This compendium is essential reading for anyone interested in revolutionary politics in general, and for an inside look at the theoretical underpinnings of the BPP in particular. Talk a lot but do nothing liberals aside.

The Autobiography of Black Hawk
The last "Indian War" in Illinois occurred in 1832 when a small band of Sauk refused under the leadership of the warrior Black Hawk to abandon their village (located under a subdivision of the present Rock Island, Illinois). They wandered up the Rock River, fighting contingents of regular army and state militia (a young Abraham Lincoln served several stints as a volunteer but saw no fighting; a young Jefferson Davis played a role in the last phases of the conflict), slipped into Wisconsin, and were finally defeated in a brutal massacre of men, women, and children on the banks of the Mississippi. Black Hawk surrendered and was taken East to meet President Jackson. After a short term in confinement, he and his companions were taken on a tour of the East Coast, an effort by the United States government to impress him with the young nation's overwhelming superiority in numbers and technology. The plan worked, by Black Hawk's own testimony, and when he returned to the Midwest he lived out the rest of his life in obscurity in a village in Iowa. He never saw his home again.
The origins of the autobiography published under Black Hawk's name has generated controversy. It was dictated to a half Native American interpreter, Antoine Le Claire, who rendered it into English, then edited by an Illinois newspaperman named John B. Patterson, who put it into publishable form. Both men swore that the result was faithful to Black Hawk's words, but the skeptical reader may be permitted some doubt; the language is clearly that of the period (surely Patterson's work), and Black Hawk himself complains on at least one occasion that his interpreter's grasp of the Sauk language did not suffice to translate a flowery speech. So what we have here, while no doubt in general faithful to Black Hawk's intentions and life story, cannot be his ipsissima verba. (It is a pity, given these doubts, that the editor of the volume, who has otherwise done an admirable job of annotation and commentary, did not compare the language of the preface, which records Black Hawk's own Sauk, with that of the text as a whole.)
Despite these doubts, there can be no question that the Autobiography affords us an extraordinary opportunity to see the impact of midwestern expansion on the native population from their own point of view, and to obtain direct access -- even if it has been mediated somewhat for non-native consumption -- into the social world of a people soon to vanish. The war itself is somewhat of an anti-climax, and deeply sad, doomed as resistance clearly was from the beginning. It is rather the self-presentation of a proud, successful Sauk warrior, endowed with considerable facilities of self-reflection and honesty, that make this book a treasure that every American should read.

A Book for Anyone
As a college student from the blackhawk area, I found this book captivating. Really written for any age or education level, I think anyone and everyone should read it. A heroic story of a real man, the book is a beautiful journey through history. The story some details of Black Hawk's life before the war and describes the events behind the wars and his interpretation of them well. I would recomend this to anyone from junior high up and definatly anyone from Rock Island or the surrounding areas.

My review
I purchased this book for my children, and they enjoyed it, however there were many undertones in this book that I thought was unneccesary, such as the part about coming to america legally is the only way to come. While that may be true, I do not think that a childs book is the proper place for it to be said. As an adult, if I was at a book store, I more than likely would not buy this book for my children, because I understood the underlying meaning of much of the story. However, my children, because they are young, did like the version of jack and the beanstalk, and do like the pictures and look forward to the next book.

Beautiful work
... this is a beautiful book. It celebrates the sensual and spiritual without the predictable "the body is evil" ethos that is so sadly common in the Jewish and Christian religions.

The body is beautiful, reflective of the beauty of its Creator (if you believe in one), and of the beauty of nature. Leonard Nimoy proves himself to be a suprisingly skilled photographer in capturing the beauty.

Nimoy, for so long defined by his portrayal of a fictional character in a television and film series, has shown a different, and appealing, side of himself in this work. Highly, highly recommended.

Strangely, a much-needed portrayal of Jewish women
I can understand how the religious would be offended by this work; it's got all the ingredients that would offend religious people.

But - but but but - I also have this to say.

As a Jewish woman, I'm tired of turning on the TV or going to a film and seeing negative portrayals of Jewish women. In film, actors like Ben Stiller are routinely - and almost exclusively - paired with blond, WASP leading ladies. This sends the wrong message. It makes Jewish women feel bad about themselves, and gives Jewish men the message that something is wrong with Jewish women.

Nimoy's work will not seem "Kosher" to many.

However, my immediate, gut emotional response - was to seeing an attractive, sensual portrayal of a Jewish woman on the cover, even if it was somewhat "immodest".

Does this represent me as a Jewish woman?

I sure hope so!

Does Fran Drescher?

Absolutely NOT.

THANK YOU, Mr Nimoy, for a much-needed celebration of Jewish femininity.

The Blessing of Adoption
This is a true story of a miracle and the blessing of adoption and for reasons that there are so many wonderful people out there whom would love to be in a situation to adopt but because of the great expense they can't.
Fortunatly my husband and I were very lucky or I like to look at it as this was meant to be so we adopted Robby. Now times have changed and this happened in 1970 but I feel if you want something bad enough don't give up,have the faith and keep on hustling and your dream will come true.
We were the average get by from pay check to pay check. We had one son age two and I had lost two babie's and was told it was impossible for me to carry a baby full term.SoI came to terms and didn't think much about it for months.
Well my husband, his name is Joe was a computer operator and I knew we had a few bucks in savings and stocks and he had a stable job and we had plenty of room for a new baby and I had a gut feeling one morning when I woke up that I could get us a baby.I had never mentioned adoption to my husband,it had never entered my mind because of our situation,we wern't rich.
I called Joe at his job and told him I was going to adopt a baby and I needed him to sell some of his stocks, his reply was have you lost your mind espically since this was never discussed,he hung up on me.Then I called him back over and over then finally told him until he told me yes I would continue to call him. Finally to pasify me he said yes and please don't call me again.Oh my God I was so happy and then started thinking how am I going to get a baby.
Ipicked up the phone book, looked under attorney's and only made two calls. The second had a young unwed mother expecting to deliver at any time and the more information I was given the more excited I got. Before the conversation ended questions was asked and the next thing I know I had us an appointment set for one in the afternoon to fill out paper work.At this present time I first started calling Joe it was right after he got to work around eight A.M.and now it is ten thirty.I called him to tell him what was going on and we had a appointment at one so we had to be at that office to sign papers,he actually was in shock but he said he would be home to pick me up and I made him promise so I knew he would come through for me and did.
We went to the attorney's office, filled out the paper work and was told we qualified.I started this on a Friday and Monday morning the attorney called to tell us one mother had delivered twins, red headed but it would cost more money, which I would of loved to of gotten but couldn't afford. Our down payment on this baby was fifty dollars and the total was eleven hundred dollars. My word I was worried how I was going to pay the other but I had six weeks.
A short time later I received another call and our baby was born,a boy.I was some what disappointed since we had our son but thankful we had a new baby boy.All the time had gone by and Joe didn't seem to show the excitement I antisipated but I picked the phone up and told him Joe we had a boy,he was screaming to the staff I have a new boy,I have another boy and at that moment was the first signs of the joy and happiness I felt.
The attorney had done the check on us and on Wednesday the welfare worker was coming out for an interview and did.We passed with flying colors and the lady showed her happinessfor us.Then I get a call that we get to pick our baby up on Thursday morning at nine A.M.I was so excited I was up all night making sure everything was perfect and it was.
Well the time had come,we were to give the clothes for the baby to come home in and sit in the car and wait,it wouldn't take long but seemed like a life time. The lady brought us our baby and oh my God he was beauitful and I thanked God and he is to this day the most handsome man still, sky blue eyes and the prettiest complection. He was perfect and we couldn't keep our eyes and hands off him. There is so many more great details to this story and the ending is even better but the jester of this story is if you have the will there is a way.I started this by a thought on Friday and had my new baby the following Thrusday which took the total of seven days and everything was leget. We named him after my dad and Joe's dad.Robby's dad passed away in 1991 with colen cancer but one year ago I found his biological mother and by surprise he has a sister and his father also a half sister and brother. This took place one year ago on this past Mother's Day and Robby is happy with his new family. This isn't the end of the story but when not off the top of my head I write everything in proper form and detail this may encourage people not to give up on getting a baby because if it was possible for us to receive this blessing it could be done for anyone who really wants a baby.I pray that any family has this desire their dream comes true.
