As a PhD student in the field of 16th Century German phraseology I am delighted to have found this book. It touches on a variety of aspects of phraseology from the earlier East European research to more recent Western ones. Although the language, in some articles,is necessarily technical (as for instance Igor Mel'cuk's contribution) it is nevertheless written so that any student can benefit from this textbook. The various subjects, from definitions via functions and collocations, cultural significance, automated research and especially the significance in education, are clearly arranged. The article on Language and Culture by N. Teliya et.al. is of particular interest for my studies, bringing into focus a much neglected interdisciplinary connection between language and culture; between phraseologisms and the cultural prerequisites for understanding and using such. The section on Foreign-Learner Language addresses the need in language teaching to consider phraseology as part of the subject. A comprehensive up-to-date bibliography assists the reader in further research. The book is solidly bound in black [linen?] and pleasant to handle with clear typeface.

If you are considering buying this book, you will probably want to do so. If you are interested in applying regional analysis or the "new" spatial economics that they present, you will have a good starting point. The necessary background is probably be a year of Ph.D. level economic theory. Specific high points are the exposition of the Dixit-Stiglitz model of monopolistic competition and the evolution of urban systems. All new Ph.D. students will have a use for chapter 4, which is an easy-to-read discussion of monopolistic competition. Further, the book is rigorous enough to be used in academic work. I recommend it to anyone interested in regional or urban economics. It is useful to students and practicing economists alike. Its rigor makes it academic, but its ease of exposition makes it useful for those without extraordinary math backgrounds. Compared to similar books, you get a lot of value for the price.

This book creates an immediate intimacy with the author, Anthony Damiani. "Standing In Your Own Way" is the clearest book on the ego that I have ever seen. Damiani uses philosophy and psychology to define the ego and presents a very practical approach on how to deal with it. Philosophy becomes alives through the clear thinking and helpful examples Damiani gives. A real killer for the ego!

We've borrowed it from the library twice already and it is his favorite! The tiger goes through quite a bit to get his stripes back, and my son knows the story by heart. I think it's time to buy him his own copy so other kids can borrow it too!

This books just provide you with everything you want to know about VB5.0. It is so useful!

Anthony Paul's book covers all styles of water gardens with accompanying photos and plans. Construction techniques are clearly explained, accompanied by line drawings. Plants to use for stocking the water garden appear in a separate section, as well as a glossary of terms. While most of the gardens featured were designed by landscape professionals, many of the ideas can be extracted and incorporated into one's garden.

This book is an excellent resource for writers. It's worth buying just for the chapter on online markets. Two hundred paying markets are profiled in detail, often with helpful comments from other freelancers. The rest of the book, written in a humorous style, provides useful information on copyright and other online writing issues.

This is the best book about online writing that I've come across, and a stand out among the crowded field of books on writing in general. Anthony Tedesco and Paul Tedesco are clearly excellent writers, and it shows. They are also pretty funny. It's not often that humor finds its way into a "how to" book, but I found myself laughing time and again while reading *Online Markets for Writers*.

Along with nuts and bolts market information, the authors provide many author "spotlights," where writers who have experience with online publishing share their views. This is invaluable to freelancers, who much prefer practice to theory.

The bulk of the book is a list of over 200 profiles of online markets, which provide all the information anyone will need and then some.

*Online Markets for Writers* is a superior book.

It's informative, well presented, and enjoyable to read. In addition, the authors even have a sense of humor. I've ordered other books on the subject and "Online Markets for Writers" is clearly the best.

This book is a great example of Murray's witty and lucid writing style. However, you'd better read up on your Mann, Hemingway, and Faulkner before you read this.

This is a complicated essay; like the previous reviewer mentioned it might be a good idea to have some Thomas Mann and Hemingway under your belt.

That being said, this is the most witty, insightful, coherent and thought-provoking essays I have ever read. Not only is Murray's style pure thrilling joy to absorb, but his examinations into aesthetics, the blues, tragedy, and improvisation are masterful. This book entirely changed the way I view the role of literature and art in life.

That is about all I can say. Murray knits a view of confrontation with life in art that nimbly leaps between Hemingway and Duke Ellington. I found his conclusions about the role of the blues and books in life endlessly compelling. I consider this book to be a treasure, from one of the unsquarest cats I've ever read.

Mr. Samuelson is most undeniably a great economist, and a great liberal, but from the distant past. As a textbook writer I find him very poor; even irrelevant. He has a way of presenting the subject in a technical/mathmatical way that leaves the reader no better off at all at understanding and discussing the basic economic issues of the day. Besides that he was a remarkably biased teacher/textbook writer. He will perhaps go down in history as the man who said that Russia was a great example of how well a planned economy can perform (even though it really just impoverished its citizens) and that Milton Freidman's work was mistaken (even though it finally became intellectually dominant and was used by the Fed to create the current economic miracle). If you had a choice to spend two semesters plowing through Samuelson or a weekend reading "Capitalism and Freedom" or "Understanding The Difference Between Democrats and Republicans" you'd be wise to pick the later. You'd learn 10 times as much in a fraction the time.

Absolutely easy to read and understand! I never thought I could actually "enjoy" reading about the subject before I came across this book.

I was amazed to discover how good the original edition of Samuelson's classic economics text is. Virtually everything in it is just as relevant today as it was in 1948. Of special interest to me was chapter 10, Personal Finance and Social Security, for the light it sheds on the current debate about retirement income security. I think Samuelson ECONOMICS 1 ed. would be my textbook of choice for a course in introductory economics.

It's a great book for first year business students and all those who want to learn something about basic principles of macroeconomics and the influence it has on everyday business activities

In comparison with other macroeconomic texts around it should get 5 stars. It starts with a historical perspective of the crisis in economics at the time of Keynes, setting the picture for why anyone bothered to invent macroeconomics in the first place. It then rapidly proceeds to introduce the major schools of macroeconomics and to develop the relevant ideas and models. It is an ideal introduction for the interested or serious student and manages to be exciting as well as fairly comprehensive. If you're taking an introductory macroeconomics course, get this book instead of your text. If you're coming from outside the economics profession and have a mind of your own, this ones for you.

This is a classic Macro text used for many Intro to Macro-Econ.

I used a similiar text (many editions before) when I took my first econ class in college over 10 yrs ago.

This is a great book, easy to understand and fluid reading.
