An INVALUABLE tool, particularly for novices!
In my opinion, this book needs to be actively published again! I used this book as a guide to grow my first vegetable garden in Richmond, VT. It thoroughly explained EACH step in the process with text and illustrations/photos. My neighbor, whom I hadn't met yet, left a letter in my mailbox around August of that year. It contained a photo of my garden and a note saying that mine was the most beautiful vegetable garden she'd ever seen and thought I would appreciate the picture of it! I have checked this book out of the library each spring since and this year it was listed as "lost!" That's why I'm here on-line: buying an "acceptable" condition copy used rather than do without! BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU CAN!
Simply the best!
I just want to emphasize the earlier reviews: This is a great, enormously helpful guide to gardening just about anywhere (I live in southern CA and I enjoyed the section on cold weather gardening even if I never use it). The author isn't clearly part of a gardening school of thought (square foot, raised beds, biodynamic), he is just vastly knowledgable about gardening and will meet you wherever you are - a sign of a great teacher. He wrote the best section on homemade garden structures - A frames, cold frames and the like - I have seen. Not a useless or wasted page. Please bring it back!
Publisher - PLEASE reprint this book!
I have borrowed this gem from the library every spring for 3 seasons, and now I am desperate to get my own. There is no better gardening book dedicated to vegetables, and the month by month schedule saves me hours of planning. No other gardening book I've found has this month by month format, and it is unbeatable! I love this book - a reprint would sell a lot of copies in Indiana, because every gardening friend and relative I have would receive a copy as a gift from me.

History
I just returned from the Pekin area. I finished reading "Lynch Law" this past winter. I enjoyed detail the writer used in describing the area. I felt like I knew the area when I drove arrived in the Pekin area. I found the book to be acruate in its lay out of the towns and area. I plan to reread the book now that I have been in the area. I enjoyed the mixture of history and mystery.
A Great Example of Midwest History!
One of the most realistic writings of midwestern history that I've ever read. The author made you feel like you were right there during the trial and lynching. What an exciting book! We are expecting great things from this author!

Most unusual; Americans at their international best!
I had not realized that Julia Child had served in the Office of Strategic Services (the CIA) during WWII. In fact, there is much that I had not realized prior to reading this fascinating book. But wait! It's also a cookbook! The authors were often challenged with new and foreign ingredients and their collection of recipes from around the world is excellent. It seems that our intelligence officers and their families like to eat, and well! Highly recommended.
Live vicariously through the kitchens of brave ladies!
I have never even had a passport, but for 2 years I have edited some stories and completed all of the nutritional analysis for the recipes in this book. I cried when I read the piece titled "Raincheck", (and I didn't recommend changing a word). There were other stories that needed a little grammatical clean up, but the goal for all of those involved in this project was to maintain the voice of the original author. Some stories are scary, some are hilarious, and all are compelling. The recipes were used mostly for entertaining, so this is NOT a diet cookbook. If you can occasionally part ways with the American Heart Association, you will find most of the recipes tasty, although a few require a sense of adventure. I've tested several recipes myself. Ladda's Yellow Curry is now a staple in my home, and several of the desserts would be if I allowed dessert in the house. I make the desserts to carry to other people's houses. The drawbacks are minor, but annoying. The book is small (so is the type), and there isn't a blank page in the front of the book to prevent the titled page from sticking to the cover. This book is worth reading though. It allows those of us who stay safely in the U.S. to share in the experiences of being a CIA agent's spouse overseas. All of the profits will fund scholarships for CIA dependants. Neither myself, or any of the authors, were paid for their work on this piece. Now that the book is out I am immensely proud it, and of the CIA spouses who made it possible.

beautiful retelling of the Christmas story
Berry's poem is Mary's song of rejoicing at Jesus' first birthday. The whole world joins in--animals, trees, people--to celebrate the event. We hear about how the angel came to Mary to announce Jesus's coming, how the wise men and the shepherds were there to welcome him, and how he has grown in his first year. Berry has given Mary and Jesus a humanness that any parent and child can relate to, and his gentle rhyme and the lovely illustrations that accompany it are sure to please any reader and listener. As soon as I read it, I knew I had found the perfect Christmas gift for everyone on my list, regardless of age.

Good science fiction novel with realistic plot
I honestly don't remember that much about Dar Tellum, but I do remember that it dealt with telepathy and global warming. This is a good, mysterious piece of fiction that will get anyone thinking. Dar Tellum (the stranger from the distant planet) adn a boy (whose name I forgot) have to use telepathy and Dar Tellum's brilliant thinking to help save the world from global warming disaster. Just read it and you may end up pleasantly suprised.

compliance handbook
For anyone whose job entails understanding environmental law, this book is essential. The authors cover a wide range of federal environmental law, from hazardous waste to endangered species, and they do it in a format that is easy to utilize.
Unlike many other handbooks, the authors clearly state their objectives in the first chapter, then proceed to carry out their plan. The book is organized into logical chapters with many divisions so not to overwhelm the reader. The writing style is clear and concise.
Admittedly, the authors explain the limitations of a book that only focuses on federal law, but there are plenty of state environmental law handbooks to fill any gaps. It is up to the user to find supplemental works that cover what this book does not.
All told, this book ought to be the standard in its field for years to come, at least until a new batch of environmental laws renders it obsolete.

I liked the dreams.
The part I liked was when the girl had a dream that could make anyone invisible. She got scared when she thought her brother went invisible. Then she begged for him to come back.He was really hiding on the wall. His sister was glad but she still wanted to make him invisible.

Amazing value
I participated in a beta test of the photometry software program and proof-read a draft of this excellent book. The book alone is worth the price, but the amazing value is the powerful software package included, AIP4WIN. It does so many image processing tasks- photometry, astrometry, spectroscopy, color pictures, image sharpening - with several deconvolution routines. This is much more than a toy (but you certainly can have fun with it) as it supports routine image processing of hundreds of images per night. The software alone is worth several times the price of the book. Anyone interested in putting a CCD camera to serious work - or serious fun - will certainly get their money's worth with this package! Berry and Burnell have a really excellent effort here.
